Tuesday Spam and Eggs!

My spam: Breast pumping is hard work... I really wish I could enjoy sleep better but it's like my body has developed an internal clock perfect for a pumping schedule.

Qotd : NYE plans anyone?

Everywhere around here is too expensive for good plans... So it may just be a movie and take out night for us...

Re: Tuesday Spam and Eggs!

  • We are probably just hanging out. A friend suggested a toddler NYE party that would end at 8 which sounded cute, but now they also want help moving their furniture into a new house? Sounds like a good night to stay home!

  • Also, I just found my old pump and had an overwhelming urge to throw it down the stairs... Not looking forward to that again!

  • Morning all! If you missed it last night the dress shopping is finally over! Thank goodness! I just have to make it through today and then two days off and then hopefully I'll be set up to work from home. Just a few more weeks until our LO's make their arrival and I'm kinda getting nervous now.

We are going to DH's cousins house which should be nice and relaxing then home. So not a whole lot to do but enough for me :)
  • @PeaceofKia‌ - hope you and your family are doing well! I am both looking forward to and dreading pumping.

We are going over a friends for NYE, probably will be home by 10. Not too exciting this year... But last year I barley made it to midnight and I was not 32 weeks pregnant.
  • Yesterday, I spent the day making freezer meals with my grandmother. She's amazing! We made enough for about a month (with leftovers, etc.).

I don't know what we're planning for New Years. Last year, we went to bed at 8 because we had a two month old. I would like to do something but I have no idea what and I know in going to be exhausted.

I've been doing baby prep the last couple of days since the museum staff is on vacation for the week and DH is at work. The diapers are in their final dry and I'm starting the clothes today. If I finish, I might do the stroller bits as well today.

I'm debating going into town to get sone sushi for lunch and the fancy bits for New Year's dinner. NYE we're watching various hockey games and going out for the Ethiopian Night at one of the local restaurants. I don't know how late we'll out.

  • Sitting at the doc's office waiting for my 34 week appointment. Hopefully I don't have to wait as long this time with my appointment being so early.

I will be working 9-5 both NYE and NY day so I'll probably be in bed by 10 :/ and the hubs woke up with what he thinks is a sinus infection. So nothing fun will be happening in my house. I am still going to pick up some sparkling cider just in case.

    Happy Tuesday everyone!

  • Even though I am still on break, I have to get back to doing some work today. I have lots of grading to do and lesson plans to write. I haven't even started my maternity leave plans, so I have to get that rolling. I can't even begin to think about writing 12 weeks worth of lesson plans for two different classes: 11th grade and 12th grade English.

I'm also a little frustrated because I was supposed to know who my long-term sub is and be able to meet with him/her before I go out on leave, but I don't think that is going to happen. The admin in charge of that is being induced before we go back to school and the rest of the admin is notorious for dropping the ball. I guess I have to just get it done and not worry about it.

  • I have been so MIA lately on here :( Life is exhausting with a 3 year old. I'm finally getting over a cold and have conquered putting Christmas back in the attic!

I am fighting a HUGE urge to just nest my heart out at home! It must be the combination of baby coming soon, and all the extra toys from Christmas, but I am in home organization mode!!! I got a lot done over the week I was off, but now I'm back to work and all I can think about is the baby's room, and shelves, and totes, and blah blah blah!!

    Morning, all!

I woke up with the mother of all sore throats. I think I finally succumbed to whatever DH got. I found myself sleeping on my back for most part of the night, I was in so much pain when I woke up cos of the position. I hope LO is OK in there, as he hasn't kicked yet. Normally he'd be going to town already. I'm such a mess.

For NYE, we're going to a friend's party. I still gotta go into work today and tomorrow. Apparently I'm the only one around for the holidays and I have to go walk out a bunch of contractors and take their badges on the last day of year.

  • I'm listening to my now 12 year old daughter (tear...she's so big!!) snore in bed next to me. Glad to know she not to big to snuggle up next to me still.

NYE will probably be movie and game night with the kids. Hopefully I can stay up that long but we will see. DH has to work Friday :(
  • Hey ladies. I am wiped physically and emotionally. Tomorrow is my last day of work which is bitter sweet. So hopefully I will get a little break soon but it is tough.

My mom is also in the hospital admitted yesterday. Hoping we get answers today and she can get the treatment she needs but it is tough. Especially with it most likely effecting her coming here in February.
Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

  • Im also in severe nesting mode..yesterday I couldnt sit still (paying for it today).
NYE will include take out, pjs, & our couch..looking forward to it!
  • T's and P's for your Mom @aggiebug‌. We will be having "one last hurrah" before little Alec arrives and going to DH's friends NYE party. Lots of drinking and loudness, nms but I know DH is nervous and I think that making the effort to do things like this and ensuring he gets to spend time with his friends will ease the transition. I will probably last till the midnight countdown and find somewhere to sleep until DH is ready to leave... I'm a total party animal... Not.

  • I feel like I am in a weird holding pattern.  Like, I know they are supposed to throw me a shower here at my office.  I have no clue when.  I want to go get some of the things left on my registry but don't at the same time. (mostly my glider)

We have some diapers and newborn clothes, but I hate to go and get more b/c we don't know how big she will be. I want to get a breast pump -- but hate to spend the money b/c what if i don't produce, or it just doesn't work.  (and yes we will have to spend the money -- grandfathered insurance plan -- aka -- no free pump -- $250 out of pocket).

I just feel like I am as prepared as I can be at this point, but still feel like I am not.  I know.. welcome to motherhood.

  • @lotsofdotts‌ i have to finish my maternity leave plans since I'm technically on it now. My sub starts when break is over. I have most of the materials but not the plans on how to use them. I teach ESL to three grade levels... 4 planned groups and 4 student assistance periods a day. I hate planning at this point.

  • Off to my 35 week appointment and NST. Then I have to go back Friday for another one because of the holidays, and they won't let us go more than 7 days without a NST. I'm ready for these appointments to be over.

My boss didn't put me on the schedule for the next two weeks. He's terrified I'm going to have this baby at work. But he did say I can come in whenever I want to get some hours as long as I don't "over do it." Thinking about going in New Year's Day so I can get some holiday pay!

No plans here for NYE. Just hanging out at home with some sparkling apple cider, wishing I could have my champagne! We're boring people.
  • It's a whopping high of 1 today in CO, yikes!!!   My to do list is overwhleming but nesting mode has set in and I took down all the xmas decor yesterday and hoping to get a couple things done everyday.

NYE will be spent at a friend's house who also has a 2 yr old.  We'll order pizza or Indian and hang...not too exciting here

@aggiebug‌ thoughts and prayers for your mom

@PeaceofKia‌ I have no experience with pumping yet but I'm thinking of you and your girls!

@lotsofdotts‌ I'm with you on the maternity plans. I have a new prep next semester that I have never taught before not to mention having to get maternity plans together. I am going to knock out some work today, wishing I could just enjoy what's left of the break no worries. Sub plans suck yo.

After getting some work done MH and I are going to see a movie tonight with the many gift cards people gave us for Christmas. We have very thoughtful families who want us to have some time to ourselves before we add another person!
  • Also, lately I get the question -- oh, when are you starting your leave?   My response -- it's up to her and when she comes.  I typically get the oddest looks.  Like a shocked -- you are going to work the whole time -- Uh.. yeah.  I only get 6 weeks, not gonna waste it so I can just hang at home.

Am I taking it the wrong way?  Or am I some freak of nature that is totally ok working at my desk job until I have the baby? Hell, if i go into labor here at work, I have more than enough people who will get me to the hospital ok.

    I just find it odd.

I'm in the same boat. Although my doctor is setting an induction date for me, so that will be my official "last day" but he could come early...and I plan to work up until I'm induced otherwise. Also, I work a desk job too

  • Obviously I am not doing a very good job getting the work done because I am bumping instead of working.

@peaceofkia Hats off to you. I shouldn't bitch since I only have two preps. I can't imagine having to plan for ESL because that isn't a position where you know the needs of the kids until you are in the situation. Good luck getting it done. I know it has to be super difficult to concentrate when you have more pressing matters on your mind with the babies. I hope they are doing well.

@missystephens Ugh, a new prep would be a nightmare. I'm not so worried about my 11th graders because they are honors kids. They can get it done without me. I'm stressed about the 12th graders because most of the class are kids who are taking 11th grade English first semester and then 12th second semester so that they can graduate on time. They are not motivated to do well without lots of "guidance." I'm worried about them not doing well with a long-term sub since LTS are hit or miss with effectiveness. I have a sinking feeling that I will come back in May to admin freaking out because these kids will not be doing well and on the verge of not graduating.

Good luck getting it done, ladies. Hopefully we will be able to report some progress before school starts back!
  • @lotsofdotts‌ honestly, those plans are furthest from my mind... I wish I could just tell her to make copies of the materials and wing it. She has been subbing for me for most of my absences this semester, so she should know how it goes.

My girls are doing well, just working on taking bottles, they get exhausted so easily and are still unable to even finish one feeding by bottle. It's heartbreaking honestly knowing this is the only thing keeping them from coming home, but the hardest skill for them to acquire...

  • I have a couple of questions, and they may come off as dumb. But I'm a FTM and have no clue how all of this works.

First question: Do I need to find a pediatrician for my LO? Or do I take her to my OBGYN for her first couple of visits? If I need to find a pediatrician, how would I go about finding a good one? Word of mouth? Also, the baby hasn't been added to any of our insurances yet. When is a good time to do that??

Second question: Have any of you had a child previously without taking a hospital tour/ birthing class? Is it completely necessary?

MommyOfAMiracle Yes, you do need to find a pediatrician. I just had to call and make sure they were accepting new patients, and at the hospital we just let the staff know which doctor we are going with and whoever is making rounds that day will come see him. I found mine based off of friend referrals, I know some people interview their doctors. I trust my friend's judgment, but we do have a back up just in case.

I'm a FTM as well, but I liked the hospital tour. I had NO idea I had to go to triage first, so it was good to know. Plus you can ask all of your questions about EVERYTHING while you're there, so I found it to be really nice

Edit: Also, my husband had to ask his HR lady how to add LO to our insurance and she gave us some forms that will need to be faxed. I'd ask your work or whoever you get your insurance through how to add LO. I think some policies give you a 30 day grace period. Unfortunately that's not the case with ours

  • @aggiebug, I'm sorry your mom is ill.  It's so tough not having your mama around for a baby coming-- mine had 2 unexpected open heart surgeries when DS was born in 2012, one right before the birth and another 6 weeks later (first one was botched, don't even get me started).  I keep holding my breath that she will be able to be here this time!!
    I'll be thinking of you.

  • @MommyOfAMiracle‌ as other people have said, you need to find a pediatrician for your LO. Also, I'd talk to HR about the insurance. With ours, you can't add the baby till after they are born because they need a SSN.

Yikes to all the people prepping maternity leave lesson plans. I have not even thought of that yet. I teach 6th grade (all subjects), but it's nice because my sub will shadow me for two weeks in Jan. then I phase out/shadow her the last two weeks. That way I can make sure things go smoothly before I leave which gives me great peace of mind (esp if baby girl decides to come early). My last day is Jan. 30 - I decided to take a week off prior to my due date. With all the pain and discomfort I'm in now, I'll probably need the week.

NYE: no plans. How lame. I'm sure we will come up with something. DHs sweet aunts gave us cash for Christmas and told us to use it for ourselves, not the baby, so maybe we will do something with that? I'd like to have a mini getaway but DH has to work Friday. Not like I'd make it til midnight anyway!

So how will I find a pediatrician for LO if we both have HMO's and need one by the time she's born? How are you going about that?

Thank you @racheltherose - I want to do the hospital tour. Especially since we haven't been to that hospital yet! DH is incredibly stubborn and think he knows everything, so he doesn't feel it's necessary. Same with the birthing class.

  • @MommyOfAMiracle we went to a meet and greet with a pediatrician last night.  We live in a relatively small town, so I just asked my midwife and she just told me where her grandkids go.  It's a block from the hospital we're delivering at and my doctor's office, so yay for convenience!  Also, Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters is the big children's hospital in our area, and this pediatrician, while a private practice, falls under their umbrella. So if anything, God forbid,  happens, we don't have to worry about getting medical records from our doctor to the hospital, the doctors at the hospital can access them.  So maybe look for something like that?

I was up with stomach issues most of the night, so I'm totally over this day.  I can't wait to go home and hopefully get a full night of sleep.

As for New Year's Eve, we're having a few friends and my sister and her husband over.  I plan on it being a low key, quiet night, but the husbandman and his friends are talking about having a bonfire in the fire pit and lighting off fireworks, so who knows.

  • @mommyofamiracle I am taking a birthing class even though I have had two in the past. I have two reasons for this. First, this is my husband's first child. I want him to be fully prepared for what he will experience in the delivery. He thinks he knows it all and will be fine, but I want to make sure he is prepared because I know I will need his support and I can't babysit him when the shit gets real! :) Secondly, I have been to the hospital where I will deliver for my dad's three surgeries he has had since August (yes, I did say 3, but that is a whole other story), but I know nothing about the procedures for the birthing center. I know it is an amazing birthing center, but I want to know the details. It is more for my peace of mind than anything.

  • My shower is in a week and a half and only two things have been purchased off the registry. Is this normal or are my family/friends major slackers?

I am struggling to motivate at work today, but I really need to kick my butt into gear and make progress on stuff. I am moaning about having to write a communications plan and create all the materials for one of our spring programs, but you teachers are putting things in perspective. Can't believe you guys have to write full lesson plans for all the weeks you will be out.

Where did you register? For some reason, my Target registry never showed that items had been purchased (awesome...). I also received a LOT of gift cards, so maybe you are as well?
  • @freegiraffe I didn't notice too many purchases off my registry until a couple days before the shower (some purchases were made the morning of). So I would say that this is normal, and your guests are being slackers and procrastinating. ;)
