Nursery themes

Re: Nursery themes

  • We're doing a steampunk themed room.  It'll be a tad dark for a newborn, but it's something the baby can grow up with.

If it's a girl, pink and purple sunset with faeries thrown into the mix, and if it's a boy, blue and green sky with spiky little hedgehogs with goggles and stuff with gears, etc.  We're super excited. :D

  • I'm planning to do ours the same whether it's a boy or girl. White/off-white walls, light wood furniture, and accents of pastel blue/green/peach/pink. Light and bright with a lot of colorful accents. I was planning on a loose nature theme- plants and animals, basically- but I bought this adorable set of blocks that make up a map of the united states, and also this really cool book of illustrated maps, so now I'm thinking of geography as theme to work in somehow. A lot of the furniture is going to come from ikea, so it'll be pretty minimal/scandinavian, but I have this pretty vintage dresser and I'm going to look for some other vintage pieces to add some character.

  • I'm doing a little lamb theme which is gender neutral. If the baby is a girl we will keep the room purple. If it's a boy I will change it to a blue.
  • Boy- Nautical. Navy red and white. Anchors ship wheels, things like that.
Girl- typical fairytale. Lots of pink, chandelier, castles, crowns things like that.
  • My DH and I are also super hero fans so we are toying with that idea or monkeys for either boy or girl. Really not sure at this point.
  • Although I do think nurseries are more for the parents, I'm super excited about doing it! I just plan on buying smart.

For a girl, bunnies in pink and gold
For a boy, constellations in navy and gold.
  • We aren't doing a theme just a color scheme since we aren't finding out the sex. I think we are just going to do navy and white and it will be ready if it's a boy and if it's a girl we can pull in some pink accents after she's born but I don't want it to be nautical.
  • This one will be staying with us for awhile and then moving in with his/her big brothers. It'll get a new quilt, though. I did book nurseries for the first two- Eric carle and Dr. Seuss (which it still is), so the quilt will be some variation from that. I'm thinking of Richard Scarry.

We do have a superhero play room, though! That'll be constant even if a girl is added in to the mix.

  • I want to do a super colorful nursery with each wall as a mural. Initially I thought of dr. Seuss but those characters can easily become monsters, so I figuted I will go for an enchanted forest instead, with all kinds of greenery and friendly looking cartoonish animals - more like Alice in a Wonderland stuff. I have this awesome idea of placing my crib on the opposite side of the window, and having a drape go over the ceiling in the shades of a rainbow and turn it's extension into the curtains of the window. Also, the ceiling will be a sky, with white fluffy clouds. Can't wait to get the tenants out so I can turn their space into the nursery - April, why aren't you here yet?? I

  • No nursery here, new baby will be in my room for a while and after my brother moves out of the third bedroom I'll come up with something, but the bedding I've picked is jungle animal themed with yellow and green for a team green baby!

  • Dinosaurs! We are having my DH best friend do murals on the walls. Some will be pink & have bows & some will be darker colors, so it'll work for either gender!
  • Our third bedroom is down in our basement far from our bedroom.  I'm not ready to move DS down there or have the baby down there so they are going to share a room for a few years.  Really the baby will sleep for us for the first 6-12ish months.  Anyway DS's room is decorated in a space theme.  I made paper planets and wall art.  I'll make a name banner for this little when it comes and I know if it is a boy or a girl.

  • DS's room is safari, specifically baby lion king which is pretty gender neutral. They will share a room and if it's a girl I'll probably add in some girly lion king Nala stuff on her side.

  • I have many ideas, but I'm on the fence about making it too gender specific bc this is our 1st baby. Did y'all do a transformation for baby 2 and keep that room as the nursery or move kid #1 to another room?

Here's some of my ideas fr Pinterest:

I also recently bought a sewing machine and will prob be making the curtains and quilt. Love me some DIY!

  • I really want to do w Wizard of Oz theme for a girl but DH doesn't sound too thrilled about it. We also discussed a "yummy breakfast" theme as I have a collection of stuffed animals and toys from it, which could be gender neutral. Not sure on a boy's theme yet, maybe trains/cars/planes
  • We already have an enchanted forest type theme going for DD. I painted it myself, with deer, squirrels, birds, bear, trees, leaves, etc... I plan to add some fireflies, a fox, and if LO is a boy, paint some of the leaves light blue (right now they're two shades of light purple)... DD and LO will be sharing a room. I also plan to have custom quilts made for them, that match :-)

  • What does the fox say

I love baby foxes. I'm thinking painting the walls a pale aqua and having hints of orange, grey, and brown. There are lots of Fox/woodland animal theme being sets, and I've already found someone on etsy to make wall art of the lyrics of the song "duck goes quack" "fish go blub" etc.

  • I'm thinking "Noah's ark" theme or maybe a "nursery rhyme" theme both more on the neutral side. DS had a elephant theme and I painted elephants all over one of his walls (with the quote "a persons a person no matter how small" because I'm a huge Horton the elephant fan). Either way I can't wait to go crazy drawing up and painting the theme on the walls. DH was skeptical to let me do it the first time but it turned out really cool.
  • Here's our elephant theme for DS's nursery. We had tons of elephants decor as well like a mobile, laundry hamper, lamp, etc.
  • I bought a puzzle which I'm in the process of putting together, which it like a cartoon fox and then there is an owl one I'm getting as well, and then I'm going to frame them and go off the whimsical theme and colors they have, I'm team green.. So the colors go either way
  • We live in an apartment and aren't allowed to paint the walls, so we have been talking about doing some removal wall decals or a few framed pictures. DH really wants to do a Super Mario theme after he saw a cool picture, but I don't think we can pull it off in the apartment. So we will probably do a Disney themed nursery. Haven't decided what yet-maybe Winnie the Pooh or Lion King.

I haven't figured it all out yet, but I was wanting to do a music theme. I'm having my niece & a family friend help with putting lyrics from various songs on canvas & possibly a mural. Once we find out the sex, I'll narrow down colors. I've kept a list of some of my favorite lyrics, such as "baby don't worry about a thing, cause every little thing is gonna be alright" & "little hands, little feet, little baby"...I'm a music nerd, so I'm pretty excited. Probably won't find other specific decorations, but I plan on having a lot of books & stuffed animals.

  • We were team green for my daughter, so we decorated the room with everything Aggie. It is a theme that works for either sex. Now that she is two, she has been brainwashed correctly and loves the Aggies! Since the new baby will be in our room for the first year, we will let our daughter decide to keep the theme or pass it on when the time comes.
  • We painted our walls tan when we put in the new carpet. We are doing a giraffe theme. If it's a boy it will all just be browns with some blue if it's a girl we will add pinks. Our crib is dark brown so it matches with anything. I'm a nursery teacher so I refuse to put anything in the crib with my baby. It will have a sheet on the mattress & a sleep sac. All that other stuff is just a way for the baby to get hurt or suffocate.
  • Realistically, baby will be in our room for awhile. Then, maybe share with my bigger kiddo. Not sure yet. However, I have been pining over a sage green nursery with pale blue, purple and pink accents featuring the artwork of Cicely Mary Barker. I had some prints of her work growing up and they are just gorgeous, sweet, soothing and whimsical. I can see having a quilt with the fairies, plain bedding of the accent colors, sage green walls, art work on walks/shelves and possibly a canopy, a mural of leaves and flowers climbing the window, etc. It's hard to find examples for inspiration because apparently no one has done this and uploaded to pinterest yet. But it would be beautiful, I know. ;)

We wanted to go super neutral with everything so we are just doing gray & white. I bought 2 gray & white chevron throws on Black Friday, and I want to string up some tulle pom poms in the room (super cheap and easy) to dress it up a bit, but other than that we're putting in a wood floor, doing white walls with a gray accent wall, we got wood colored cribs and dressers, we're getting a gray & white chevron area rug, and then I'm hoping to find a nice used glider that I could possibly re-upholster with gray and white. Aaaaaand...that's about it lol.

Maybe I'll get real crazy and get some funky letters to spell out the babies' names and hang them on the wall. haha. But probably not. I'm just not that crafty.

Mind twins! I'm doing gray and white as well! I'm not super into girly girl or masculine. I'm hoping my girl would love Batman and my boy would love dance. We will add nature accents like a wire birdcage and a driftwood lamp.
This signature is all for YOU. I'm on mobile and can't see crap.

  • I tend to be pretty boring when it comes to wall colors and I like to stay neutral. That said, I painted the room a nice tanish color over a year ago. We are going to rip up the carpet and redo the hardwood floors. I'm going to get either cherry or dark wood furniture no matter what the sex and this will be our nursery for any baby we have in this house.

On a side note, I love the advice I've been getting here, so I've been trying out some gliders with ottomans as well as rocking recliners. I always liked the idea of a nice glider but I'm fairly certain I'll be doing a nice brown rocking recliner.

If we have a girl the color scheme will be chocolate and pink with gold accents. If it's a boy it will be a sports theme. I've already found the cutest little football chair and ottoman.

We are planning on doing a hot air balloon/ "oh the places you will go" Dr. Seuss theme. I'm obsessed with hot air balloons, they signify summer where we live and love the freedom it gives us to be as colorful as we want. Plus it's a theme that will work either way in case we end up with one of each.

  • We did Noah's Ark for DD. They will share a room since the other bedrooms are upstairs and I'm not ready to have my will-be-2-year-old upstairs by her self. We are getting DD a toddler bed this week and will just get this baby a dresser that matches later on.

  • Ummm yeah so when I first saw this thread I was like...pshhhh. Ain't nobody got time for that this early.

    Then.

I saw this beautiful toile fabric for crib sheets and I fell in love. If it's a girl. And I'm about to hide my pinterest board because MH is going to think I'm drunk or something if he sees me pinning all these pretty fabrics already.

  • We are team green so I won't be doing the nursery until after baby is born (baby sleeps in our room for the first 4 months anyways). But I'm thinking teal and pink for a girl but don't know if I will incorporate animals or something to go along with the colors. For a boy I'm thinking a woodland animal type theme.

  • I've been browsing online for some decor items and I found that Urban Outfitters, of all places, has a lot of stuff that would be really cute in a nursery.

In particular I'm loving these tapestries they have (instead of doing a mural on the wall- I like that it would be easier to change- but still big and fun).

    For a map/geography theme:

    For a woodland theme:

    Clouds and stars:

They've also got some neat wallpaper and wallpaper murals, a lot of artwork that would be cute in a kid's room, and fun geometric printed curtains and rugs. I've got my eye on this one:

    But this is also adorable:

And if this ever goes on sale I am buying it in a heartbeat:
