OK, so I'm a TTTC veteran, going on 3 years now, and we've just had our first SA on the Kruger scale (old RE didn't do Kruger and this is now part of an IVF workup with a new RE).
The WHO semen analysis was always in normal limits for count/motility/morphology, and we've had probably 8-9 SAs now, but on the Kruger scale we have 1% normal.
I really have a hard time wrapping my head around 4% normal being OK and 1% normal being "infertile." Both just seem like such small numbers. Can someone help me understand?
And also ... does this mean we finally have a diagnosis? I'm freaking out a little here. It sounds like this means IVF with ICSI could work for us. After 7 IUIs. Oh wow.
I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.
And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!
Re: Kruger strict morphology question
I know that personally we also have 1% morph on Kruger for both the SA and follow up. My RE recommended that we go straight to IVF w/ ICSI, due to the low morph. I know that kruger is a much stricter guideline to follow. I would say based on what you are telling us that you have MFI.
We decided to do IUI with donor sperm for financial reasons, as my only problem is anovulation.
HTH...
I'm stunned that you've done so many IUI's w/o doing a SA by atleast the second one. My DH has 1% morp on Kruger but was "low end of normal" on WHO. When the Kruger came back my RE said he would never had done the IUI's had he seen our morph first. I was pissed at that, but that's another post, but we have to now do IVF w/ ICSI.
Hopefully, that's your diagnosis and IVF will be the charm. Good luck!! Keep us posted.
Our strict morph was originally 0%....sucks. But, my DH had a varicocele, surgery, and now we are up to 3%
I would definitely say that 1% strict would be MFI.
We have 1% strict morph and lowish motility and count, and were told straight to IVF. My main issue is anovulation, too, and the doctor isn't worried about me, even though I haven't had any CD3 bloodwork yet.
I asked about IUI and was told we could do it if we wanted to -- he'll let us try it -- but he thought that we'd be wasting our money and that he estimated our chances to be about 5%. I'd rather spend the money and try for something with a better chance of working, so it's IVF for us.
