How do you go to your dr appointments?

Today at my routine appointment, the waiting room was packed with so many non - patients that there was hardly room to sit. So I'm wondering if I'm an oddball for always going alone. Just wondering who usually goes with you to routine (monthly, 2x a month, weekly) ob appointments?

  • I go alone whenever possible unless it's a really important appointment. If my mom isn't available to watch Adeline than she comes with me.

  • I go weekly so my mother comes with me when she can or I go alone. My DH doesn't get many chances to come.
  • At first my DH was going with me to all appointments. Now he will go with me if my appointments are at a decent time (he mainly works evenings) or if it is an ultrasound.
  • I was going alone, other than big appointments where we heard the heartbeat for the first time or had an ultrasound. But now that I've had pre term labor, on bed rest, and going every week, my H wants to come to every appointment with me. But most of the women in the waiting room have their SO with them.
  • I go alone unless we have an ultrasound.

    This.

  • One of my sister's goes with me! They take turns every other appt. My DH comes to the important ones that have ultrasounds at them. He will be going with me to my 34 appt due to having an ultrasound to see how big baby is and discuss l&d! But I can't believe that anyone would bring more then one person and then not offer up a seat to a pregnant woman. That would probably make me mad. I guess I'm lucky cause my Dr office is never crowded. My dr is really good with time.
  • DD goes with me nearly every time because I don't really have another choice. But I also confine her to her stroller.
  • I go alone. H came to the first one we got to hear the heartbeat and both ultrasounds, but that's it. It's not worth it for him to use PTO to come to a 15 minute appointment where all she does is measure my belly, listen to the heartbeat, and ask if I have any questions/concerns.

  • Alone. DH came for 20 week ultrasound but that wasn't even a regular doctors appt.

Last time with DS he came to the last one at 40 weeks because I knew we would discuss inducing and and other labour and delivery stuff at that point.

  • I've gone alone every time except for our 20week ultrasound. My doctors office is just upstairs from my office, so it is super convenient and would be silly for DH to drive all the way in (30 min from his work or home).

  • I usually go alone, but occasionally I will let a child come along as a treat...it's pretty special for them to get to go somewhere with just mommy, and hearing the baby's heart beat is always a lot of fun.
  • DH tries to make it if he can.

  • Alone with the ultrasound and first appt exceptions. He may come near the end to start hearing options with me. But for the most part alone.

When we first found out we were pregnant, DH's cousin, who he is really close to, told him to go to every appointment, and he has. It shocks me because, if I would have said that, he would have said no. So, when we have even simple appointments, he just tells work he's leaving.

  • I usually go alone unless DH and I have somewhere to go right afterward. We are both teachers at the same school and my appointments are usually right after school, so sometimes it is just convenient for him to go. I guess I'm just a special snowflake on this one. :)
  • My DH used to come but we realized most appointments are 10 minutes so I tell him not to come. I usually treat myself to panera after so I enjoy some me time lol but major appointments he will be there!
  • I usually go alone, but DH tries to come if his work schedule allows it. Seems like everyone at my office brings an entourage.
  • When I was going to an OB practice, I went with DS to the checkups, DH came to the major appts (ultrasounds, first time we heard the HB, etc.).

Now both DH and DS come to my MW appts. She has a ton of toys in the birth center so it's easy to keep DS entertained.

  • Usually alone unless it's an ultrasound appointment.

However OP your post made me chuckle because that is exactly what happens in the RGV (rio grande valley) here in Texas. Everyone and their dog will go to a dr appointment. My DD was going every 1-2 weeks for about 2 months to the dr and we never had a seat in the waiting room. It's unreal and forget about being on time! Your appointment maybe at 11 but the person who was at 945 just got there so be prepared to wait 12 more hours!! We were blessed the kids pediatrician never has a wait and if I've had to wait it was 15 minutes max.
  • DH hasn't tagged along for any appointments with baby #2. My routine appointments are 10 minutes long always. My ob is also 5 minutes from my office whereas Dh works 45 minutes away. My ultrasounds are also not worth his attendance since they make him wait in the waiting room till the very end of thr appointment.

I usually go alone. But sometimes my mother will come with me. Unfortunately, my husband's dirt bag boss has refused to let him come in late on any days that I have Dr.s appointments, even wouldn't let him off on the day of our a/s. He loves his job, but hates his bosses.

  • Lol I'm the only entourage vote so far! That being said, we are usually the only people in the waiting room. When I've seen other clients, they have partners or kids or moms in tow. There has never been a space issue, but then again I did seek out an MW practice that limited clients and has well spaced (long) appts. With my first, I used a doctor that was always jammed packed with at least 45 min wait times for each appt and the appt only lasted 10-15 mins.

My husband has come to all the appts so far and we have brought my son for most of them as well. The appt times and our schedules have just worked out that way, and it's more convenient for us to go together. My husband asks tons of questions, my son just plays in the play area (super kid friendly place) and they step out of the room if necessary.

I will start going mostly by myself now that they are more frequent and we will be discussing labour specifics and all that jazz. Wow, sorry for that blab fest!
  • Usually just my husband, but today my two toddlers came along, because I wanted to stop on the way out and get them their flu shots. They did surprisingly well with all of the waiting and they loved to hear their baby sister's heartbeat!
  • From the getgo w baby #1 im usually on my own or just w a child or two. With previous pregnancies I guess DH made a few of the more important appointments, but so far he hasn't been to a single one with this pregnancy unless you count the dating u/s at the beginning when he came and picked up my 3 other kiddos and took them home when I went back to see the technician. However w this preg my baby always comes w me ... She's 14 months now and hangs in a wagon. Most of the other moms have their partners there w them, but going solo is actually how I prefer it for the most part. My appointments are 2 minutes long and even I am usually quite bored.
  • I see my OB alone but DH comes to MFM apots since there is always an ultrasound. He will likely not come to the weekly NST/BPP appts since they are so frequent.

  • I somehow hit entourage but normally it's just the hubby that tags along. He has been to every appointment. I did bring my best friend along with us to two of our MFM appointments but they have 3 waiting rooms and there is always plenty of seating.

I don't go anywhere, my midwife comes to my house. Bb dad has met her and he's gone to the ultrasound appts and doula appts.
  • My DH always goes to my appointments. He did the same with our first. I love that he comes. He keeps me calm (I get so impatient in the waiting room...especially when they're running really behind). I regularly go to the specialist office too (at risk for hypertension and low amniotic fluid) and he goes to all of those too. We always take our daughter to daycare first though.

  • In the beginning DH was never able to go because of work. Now that we are in a different country he has made it clear to his higher ups that he really wants to be there for me since I am nervous going alone. Plus the city where my OBs located is a little nerve wracking to drive in.
  • MH came to all the early appointments through the anatomy scan. I had a lot of anxiety about my previous loss, and even now occasionally have anxiety attacks the night before routine appointments, but I go alone now. He'd still come to routine appointments, but he started a new job and is in court all the time so it's not so easy for him to pop out for a quick appointment. He will leave for something important though- like when my doctor sent me to the hospital a few weeks ago.

  • I've gone alone to all of my appointments.  DH has made 2 of 3 ultrasounds so far (just didn't go to the confirmation one at 5w5d).  It works for us.  He is on call though if I need him to get there.  He can run to the OB office from town in about 15 minutes or hop a bus and be there in 5 if necessary.  We both tend to agree that it really isn't worth his time considering I'm usually out of there in 10 minutes or less.

  • DH has come to all the major apts: confirmation of pregnancy, first heartbeat, & a/s however my dr office is a 45 minute drive from my house (and right across the street from my work) so I don't feel the need to make him drive all the way out here for a 10 minute apt!

  • Dh has only come to 2 appointments, one for the anatomy scan, and one for something else that I don't remember but I was getting some kindof results back and didn't want to be alone.
  • I go alone. DH came for the ultrasound. I have had to bring a kid in the past but I'm fortunate enough to have a retired mom who is local and willing to watch DD2 most of the time (and DD1 is in school). Usually, I'm alone though.

    But sometimes like this

Jk I go alone except for my two scans... My appointments last 15 mins or so and involve peeing in a cup, blood pressure, hoping on the scale and measuring my belly growth. There's nothing to see.

Omg! That second picture of Leo is my absolute favorite! I send it to my mom all the time because it makes me laugh. He totally looks like a dog/cat sunning himself. Lol!
