Whoa, I step away for a couple of hours and learn so much about you ladies! Here's another for me:

I find newborn baby portrait photos to be super, super creepy. I've yet to see one that makes me do anything other than cringe.

    I'm scared for you...

    This is creepy?

    image

That's so cute I want to cry.

    That one's not too bad. I wouldn't say that's cute, but I wouldn't say it's creepy.

Example of a newborn photo that kinda weirds me out: https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2734/4125776398_606e0ebfe4.jpg

    @DaisyCat11 that is adorable!

@DorkyMama I get what you're saying. Babies posed like babies (ie laying down, swaddled, etc): cute. Babies posed in a position no baby would ever be in naturally: creepy.
Someone who gets me!! Yes. Preciesly.

Also, I'm up for the challenge to any of you who want to show me your future infants' professional photos and see if my mind can be changed. Regardless of how I feel, I'd still snuggle every baby out there.

  • I'm so vain, I am going to need to approve any potential after-birth pictures any of my family take of me once I have potential child.
    Oh, ABSOLUTELY.

I will also have my makeup bag with me for any photos. Judge away.

I have another one:  I recently bought the DVDs for the entire "Scrubs" series.  (Possibly flame-worthy that I love that show to begin, and/or enough to buy the DVDs to re-watch it, but it gets worse...)

Now I am that girl walking around quoting Scrubs all day and wondering why no one is laughing at my references to a TV show that has been off the air for 5 years.

I think this, and you, are awesome. MH and I love Scrubs so much, we used Book of Love (the song from JD's last day at Sacred Heart) as our first dance - we were watching the rerun and were both like "Why don't we use that?" So we did.

    (Edited for words)
H and I used this song for our first dance as well. I quote Scrubs at work all the time. I don't even care.

  • I'm adding to the photo list for my confession.

I find maternity photos strange. Just the woman and her bump, with few clothes or fully dressed... Just is weird to me.

That being said if it's a family picture, with the couple and possibly another child... It doesn't seem as bad to me.

I don't think they're creepy, exactly.... but uncomfortable/unnatural looking?  Yes.

Eh, it's just not my thing, I guess.
Yes, I think this is what I was trying to say initially. "Creepy" wasn't the best descriptor... but "uncomfortable" definitely fits how I feel about it.

I obviously want some pictures of me pregnant.  I think the idea is cool.  But, a whole photo session?  Yeah, no.  I'd want one copy of one photo from that whole session.

I didn't even think wedding photography was all that important.  I'm broken, guys.  Love me anyway?
    I'm the same.

I had a freind photograph our wedding. His wife is a professional photographer... eh, I'd say on-her-way-up to being a professional photographer. They were inexpensive but did a really good job. I honestly just wanted friends/family to take photos and put them in a group Flickr album and call it a day... but my parents and in-laws wanted "real photos".

Awww, I loved getting maternity pics!  I have a couple of just me and then the rest with DH.  I love them and have some hanging around the house.
  • I confess that I love professional pictures for all special occasions. I agree that some of the pictures may possibly be slightly awkward (just look at awkward family photos pregnancy section and you will see what I'm talking about) but other than that I enjoy them and I think they're beautiful.

We made hot chocolate the other night with milk and powdered Ghirardelli chocolate. My husband used a shit ton of milk and we kept adding more chocolate but it wasn't turning out right. The instructions said to use some sugar but we didn't have any. So our solution was to add 6 mini Hershey chocolates to it. Yeah that did the trick. It was super chocolate but so awesome!

Wait. This does not compute. You didn't have regular old sugar in your house? Not even a few granules? How do you bake?
------mobile quote fail?----- I was wondering the same thing. I have about 5 different types of sugars in my house, so not having any is foreign to me.

Same here. Even in the event I run out of white or raw sugar, I've used maple syrup to make home-made hot chocolate or other baked goods!

I don't have flour and I think I have a little container of sugar my parents sent over when my grandpa was staying with me for a couple days a few years ago.

I just don't bake. Easier not to binge that way.
I am super obsessed with baking. I taught myself cake decorating when I was a teen and sold decadent pastries for many years. I have made just about everything and love every fucking second of it. It's like going to therapy. But I barely have sugar in my house for a similar reason. DH doesn't like sweets. And I sure as hell am not baking more than one serving of anything- I have no one to pawn them off to! Luckily Sally's one giant cookie recipes keep me sane. Also, when we visit family they open their kitchen up to me, 'cause they know I always absolutely mad after having been deprived for so long. Last time I was at the in-law's, I made a cinnamon swirl bread with hazelnut icing, blueberry cheesecake, blueberry-chocolate-cinnamon muffins with brown sugar crumb topping, knock-you-naked brownies, and chocolate croissants all in one weekend.

In general I love newborn photos but I did see one once where the baby was wearing a knit mermaid outfit which included a tiny knit seashell bra. I was kinda like "DAFUQ?" I'd be down with just the mermaid tail and like a onesie under.

  • I'm pretty seriously considering talking to H about TTA next month if this month doesn't work because that due date will conflict with the Taylor Swift concert.

I have no problems with professional newborn photos, but please wipe off the goo before posting hospital newborn photos. Those are not cute.
    ------

That "goo" (vernix) is actually really healthy for the baby's skin and should be rubbed in, not wiped off.

I'm in the no bath for baby right after their born camp though, so there's that. (Wiping off blood is ok of course)

Then wait and post a later picture sans goo. I've never understood the "post a picture of baby/mom the very second after s/he is born!" trend. It's kinda icky.

I read dozens of birth stories, complete with photos in preparation for my son's birth. I had an image in mind of my dream birth and worked damn hard to do everything I could to achieve it. You better bet I took a picture of that success moment!

I love the right after birth photos because they show a real side of birth that so many women today know nothing about because it is hidden.

I'm way late to this party today, but I've been saving one so I have to share.

I have a friend who I truly love

I sent her a text the other day, and she immediately was like, I haven't heard from you in so long, I'm surprised to get your message. Did you not get mine?

So I lied. I said, "no! what messages!?"  She screenshotted me a bunch of texts. All of which I did get, I just didn't realize I never responded to them. ..... I blamed shitty service and my shitty phone. Both of which I do have issues with, but not in this case. I just suck. But I didn't want to go through the whole why are you insensitive and too busy for me and what did I do wrong? thing again. I'm sorry, I'm not, and nothing. I just live here and you there. We both work, I have a kid, etc etc and so on.

    I am a horrible person.
    :-<
------------------------qbf----------------------- Why would you lie to her!?? If you love her as you say, just be honest. Tell her you forgot to respond and you're sorry. I have friends who live across the country, and I know it's hard to keep in touch but just be honest and say that you're sorry you haven't communicated much lately.
I've been in a similar situation, and I've done the same thing. At least in my case, it was more to do with the friend making me feel like shit. After a certain point, if the friend felt insecure, the phone conversation wouldn't go beyond the accusatory. If we went passed that (via lies), then it could be more like 'the good times'.

I'm not saying it's right, but at least in my case, it was more of my resisting the demise of the friendship. My former friend just couldn't be grown up enough to realize that shit happens and it's not always about her, and after a while I realized I couldn't baby her anymore. My lying was trying to prevent the ending of the friendship. I don't know if this makes any sense, and obviously, my situation may not be comparable, but there's my take on why I've done it before. Now if I had the impulse to lie again, I would use that as a sign to re-evaluate the relationship rather than just go through with the lying.

    @mamasargetobe

I urge you to think about what you're really getting out of this friendship. I realized that in my situation- I felt like I had to lie to keep her happy. I didn't like that. I didn't like the guilt. I realized this friend was a horrible friend and in retrospect, we were both bad friends to each other. After lots of therapy (regarding related cognitive disorders), I see the reasons behind both of our behavior, and I see it as a learning experience now, and I keep it in mind for current friendships.

In the end, honesty in friendships is worth it. That was a big lesson for me back in the day, and it's taught me well. I think I'm a better friend after learning how not to be a friend. And sometimes being a good friend means letting a sour friendship go. Not saying that's what you *should* do, of course, but just suggesting to think about this friendship and see if it's worth it.
