Who called you out first for being pregnant? Share here!

actually 3 questions: 1) who called you at first 2) how far along were you? 3) what was your response?

So today in the hospital, I walked by a group of nurses that I am friendly with, but certainly hadn't shared any news of pregnancy.  I hadn't seem them for the past 4-5 weeks because I was working on a different hospital site.  As I walked by, they stopped and once of them said, "OH MY GOD, YOU"RE PREGNANT?!!"  I froze  then did the "shhhhsh"  finger to my lips gesture and nodded.  Jeez.  What if I wasn't pregnant?  14 weeks 3 days today.

Please share your stories.  I'm sure you guys were less awkward and more clever than I was. I was dumbfounded.

  • My cousin's husband, at Thanksgiving. I think others were suspicious (the no wine thing is quite different from my typical MO at holiday gatherings!) but they all kept their mouths shut.

I don't know how some people haven't heard that you aren't supposed to ask women that! Like, ever! If I wanted everyone to know, I would have told them. Immediate family maybe gets a pass, but only one on one, not in front of other people. Even then.
  • An employee at build-a-bear (the kids and I walk the mall a lot and always stop in there). I was 7 weeks.
We told pretty much everyone close to us as soon as we found out, so no chance of being called out.

  • I've told this story before but my cousin noticed that I wasn't drinking at my BIL's birthday dinner. I told her that I would be but I was wildly hungover and even the thought of alcohol made me want to puke. This was the weekend following my BFP so there was no way in hell I was going to fess up (too paranoid).

She continued to insist the next weekend at a huge family gathering (90 people) so I had to shut her down quickly! I told her "You know, I'm not at the weight I'd like to be at right now and you continually insisting that I must be pregnant really doesn't make me feel good". She completely panicked and backed off, spluttering apologies that she had only been suspicious because I hadn't been drinking the weekend before, not because I looked pregnant (we had a good laugh when I finally came clean a few weeks later but I felt a little bad about it for a while).
  • My gym buddy because i stopped with vigorous workouts. I was 8 weeks. I told her I had a knee injury which she believed for another week before asking me again.

My boss actually called me out on it before I even knew. I wasn't feeling well and I called off for the for first time, I thought I had the flu. Well the next day I came in and she was like you're pregnant. I had just shrugged it off. About two weeks later I took a test and sure as shit, she was right.

My boss called me out before I knew as well. I didn't call off but I was always nauseated and my face must have shown because only day she said, "Jennie, do you need to take a certain test?" As we opened and I said no, just not feeling good. Nausea didn't lessen then my boobs grew and I knew I had to take the test. About two weeks after she called me out the first time she asked me again if I took one yet. Her response to mine was an evil laugh then awwww and was excited. Haaa. Funny how other people realize before you can even tell. Lol

  • DH and I get sushi every Monday. When we started TTC I switched to cooked foods and soup. When I was about 4 weeks along the main waitress asked me why I wasn't eating raw sushi followed up by if I was pregnant. I turned red and looked at DH because no one knew yet. He confirmed my pregnancy to them. We just think it's funny that our sushi place figured it out first!
  • No one yet! I was the master of deception before we started sharing the news. I was never sick at work and was fake drinking my way through some get togethers. 14 weeks today and not showing at all, just a little bloat now and then. Looking forward to when people can tell and don't think I just had too many cookies!

  • I'm from a very small town and we do all our shopping in the same city, so it's often you'll run into someone you know while up there. At 9 weeks I was starting to think about winter coats and my favourite mat store is in a less busy mall on the other end of the city, it was during the week during school hours, and though the thought crossed my mind I could run into someone, I popped in to take a quick look figuring the odds were for me.
Well as I'm walking out the school secretary from H's school walks by (I grew up there so I've known her my whole life). She looks at me, looks up at the store sign, looks at me, and I couldn't deny it so I just said 'we're telling everyone in a couple weeks' and she goes 'oh don't worry, I saw nothing, you were just "shopping for a friend!"' And walks away haha. She didn't say anything but held it against my husband at work to be extra nice to her hahaha.
  • I wasn't called out because we told super early as in the day that stick turned positive (we lost our first baby and had been on fertility drugs to get this one and were bound and determined to celebrate every second in case it was cut short again) BUT when we told my husband's grandmother she said "GOOD! I wasn't going to say anything but I noticed a little pooch at dinner the other night and you couldn't stand the smell of anyone's food!" She's an adorable old lady so I still laugh at the story!

  • I was five weeks along when my drunk friend said, "So, what, are you pregnant?" My eyes got wide and I said, "Yes." He was drunk enough that he wasn't sure if I knew what I was responding to and had to clarify, "So...you're not just trying? You are pregnant right now?" (Imagine that in a kind of slurred voice). He had noticed that I didn't drink at a party the weekend before (I got my BFP two days before the party) and then I hadn't ordered a drink at the bar where we were before dinner. I didn't mind him and his wife knowing that early, but I didn't want her to find out exactly like that because they've been sort of trying for a long time now. :-/

  • My yoga teacher was the first to know...as soon as I walked in from not seeing her in awhile she said "is there two of you right now?" I looked behind me like what? And then I was like ohhhhhhhh yes haha!
  • This probably doesn't count. Some bitch on here that I know IRL. She told my sister when I was 6 weeks. We hadn't told a soul yet. My first response was to want to burn her house down. Then I came to my senses and realized she was just an immature bitch seeking my sister's friendship. I defriended her and moved on.

  • My sister did, at Rosh Hashanah services!!  She made a comment about me taking a new job and how it might be a bad idea if we are starting to try, and I apparently made a face that gave it away.. I dont remember making said face. But yeah, she called me out and then i made her SWEAR not to say anything until I had told my parents and what not.

  • A 14 year old girl on the basketball team I coach. In the middle of a drill she just shouted "omg are you pregnant again?", it caught me so off guard I stumbled and then blurted out "yes! But that was very ballsy for you to ask". I was 8 weeks and apparently very bloated and bitchy.

  • My dh when I was 3 or 4 weeks. We went out to eat and ordered beers. I went to take a sip, the smell and taste was terrible I became so nausea it was terrible. He simply replied so your pregnant aren't you. I denied, I had no idea I was and didn't find out for a few more weeks after.
  • My whole family gets together every weekend or so when my cousin has a singing gig at local bars. We hadn't made it for a few weeks so my husband and I went last week I was almost 11 weeks then. And we were sitting there and my uncle catches my eye and starts rubbing his stomach motioning to me and mouthing "you pregnant?" I just looked at my husband and my mom like how the heck?! We were gonna wait to tell them for another week or so but then decided to share. My cousin then said she thought it was weird that I was drinking water since our whole family is a bunch of lushes.
It was exciting to share but so weird that he would have that intuition! He said he didn't know what made him say that!
  • I was at a work dinner and declined a glass of wine and a female coworker immediately said "OMG- you're pregnant!" I was only 6 weeks. Clearly I like to enjoy wine so it was obvious to her :)
  • My mom, I was 4.5 weeks (yeah that early) in that I just peed on a stick and confirmed myself. We just got back from a vacation, so after a week of eating whatever I wanted and not exercising I had put on a few, plus I still have some loose skin and a pooch from DS1, and was sitting in a very odd way that made my stomach stick out, so my mom goes "do I see something"?

I was mortified, I told her no it was just leftover vacation binge weight. So of corse when we did announce, she goes I knew it and I told her she couldn't have since I was only 4.5 weeks and I had only just found out.

We told people pretty early so we didn't really give people a chance to call us out, but I had several people tell us "they knew" due to a lack of my drinking...always gives us away in our group.

  • My SIL busted me at 6 weeks.  I wasn't drinking wine and she knew we were trying.  She asked if I wanted a glass of wine and when I said no she just said "so when are you due?".  She never told a soul.  She's good like that!

  • On Thanksgiving, we had all sat down to eat. Things got quiet, you know, just normal eating sounds... When one of DH's Uncles piped up with, "Ah. Such a lovely day. Such a great opportunity to share special news, you know. New engagements... New houses... New... Babies?"

Then everything got super quiet and awkward as everyone looked at us. So that was fun. I was 8wks. I wonder who told him, but he claims to have really had no idea. Yeah, right...

  • We spilled the beans at nine weeks, so no one really had a chance to call us out. There is this very plain spoken 78 year old lady at the gym, who knows, and she looked at me last week and asked if I was getting fat. I just replied with no, that's just my regular fat. There's not a soul that could look at me and figure that one out yet.

  • My mom, 5 weeks because when we were watching the Walking Dead I burst into tears over something random. She was the reason I tooka pregnancy test!
  • One of the women in my bible study (5 of us, small group) asked me the week before my period was due, to which I replied, "No, thank goodness!" I went ahead and told them two weeks later. I was still in shock, and their clapping and cheering and carrying on helped my perspective quite a bit :)

I love hearing about moms, dads, aunts, and uncles calling us out so early on. As annoying as it may be to our announcement plans, it makes me look forward to the day I get to call out my nieces and daughter!
  • My shitty friend gets enjoyment from calling people out early... I had just peed on a stick that morning, so I was a little less than 4 weeks!  We went to our friends' house for dinner and drinks that night, I was just drinking gatorade because "I feel like I'm getting sick" (admittedly, I am the world's worst liar) and he said, yeah, sick with pregnancy.

However, I was able to successfully trick them for another few weeks until it was a more appropriate time to tell.

  • My boss inadvertently called me out to my MIL since we work for the same company. He said he had noticed I gained weight and had some vitamins and ginger ale at my desk, I had been battling a negative reaction to BC for almost a year and stayed nauseous no matter what I tried. She explained to him the issues I was having and that we were planning on waiting. That weekend we had a birthday dinner for my MIL and my sister in law brought her 13 year old step sister who inadvertently called me out as well because I hadn't eaten much.lol
  • Another agent I work with. She just walked up to me and demanded to know! I gave her our standard answer," if we are, we will be sharing the news with family and friends at Christmas. So please don't say anything." She lasted all of 45 seconds! I could knock her out!! The nerve of some ppl!! At least our families still haven't found out!!
  • My boyfriend made food with hot sauce(I didn't know). As he walked passed, I asked, " did you put hot sauce on your food? The smell takes up the whole room." He told me he only put a drop. Then yelled, " You are pregnant!!" That was before I found out at the doctor's office. So I was around 4 or 5 weeks.
  • My boyfriend. I had a suspicion that I was pregnant because I was a week late but I didn't think too much into it because I have a hard time getting pregnant and my period the month before was abnormally long. So I just wasn't getting my hopes up but was playing it safe by refraining from drinking. My boyfriend and I went to our usual bar. The waitress took our drink orders and he ordered a beer and I ordered a coke. He didn't think anything of it until the waitress came back 5 times to check if I wanted a beer or mixed drink. Every time I responded I'm fine for now and just want to eat first. For some reason she felt the need to keep asking if I was sure. I've never gotten such great service lol. So after she left our table my boyfriend said why aren't you drinking, and said you're not pregnant are you? And since I had a suspicion I didn't want to lie so I just said I wasn't sure. So after we ate and enjoyed hanging at the bar we went and got a test late at night and took it together and surprise! I was right. Sucks I couldn't keep it a secret just a little longer because I was already mentally envisioning this great way of telling him. Stupid waitress lol.
  • At least a week and a half before I found out, a woman I know turned to someone else I know and said, in the middle of a conversation and apropos of nothing, "Did you know Rosa is expecting?" I reacted with shock, "Well that's news to me!" She is generally quite meddlesome and judgmental, but this was a new level. I had said nothing to her to indicate that I might be expecting, not shared any symptoms or anything. The only thing I had said was that now I finished my degree, DH and I were ready for children whenever. I thought this was bizarre and inappropriate for her to do, and if it was meant as some strange joke, in poor taste.

The next day, I mentioned to a coworker that I was feeling lightheaded. She asked me, "Are you having a child?" I thought that was an unusual way of asking and weird so soon after the other thing. I replied "Not as far as I know," and she said if I was lightheaded I could be. Of all the weird symptoms to pick up on, right? I would understand if I said I felt nauseated. But I work at the same place as my mum, and everyone knows she really wants a grandchild, so maybe they're just more aware. Everyone at work knows now but that coworker hasn't said anything to me about being "right".

I would not call that great service. I have been a server and I would think that continually bothering a guest who had made it very clear she didn't want an alcoholic drink is more obnoxious than anything. Like she was trying to make more money off you. You have all kinds of reasons you might not have wanted a drink, maybe you never drink or were driving.

I proudly told them they were right :)

I know I was being sarcastic about how she was on the far end of the spectrum when usually at bars it's hard to get an order in or get anyone's attention. But she seemed to be overly eager when I didn't need service. Its like where's the help when you actually need it.
