Oh, I agree with you @Cambury108 From a jury standpoint, I would have voted not guilty. There's way too many holes in the case. But I will casually say I think he did it based on circumstantial evidence. But circumstantial evidence should not have put him away.
I can't get the ticker to work, but I have two sons:
Re: juries. I've sat on a couple juries for more minor offenses (drunk driving, drugs) and it was fascinating to talk to the prosecution after the case was over. So many little details that weren't allowed during the actual trial. Obvs, a more candid convo. It was really insightful.
I am team Adnan was involved, if not the killer, but there should've been a directed verdict (meaning the defense makes a motion at the end of the prosecution case saying there's not enough evidence and then the Judge agreed...basically). Defense counsel effed up. It seems like she had no real theme/theory and went for the Spaghetti on the Wall defense (throw a bunch of crap and hope something sticks ). Newsflash... That very rarely works. She should have attacked the timeline and jays credibility more succinctly
Oh and gotten a freaking plea deal for her client
Sometimes they are not offered. I haven't always offered to deal major case.
Okay I'm only on episode 8 or 9. I don't know whether or not he did it, like I don't really have an opinion on that yet, but I do not think they had enough to convict him "beyond reasonable doubt."
- The jury member who said it "was huge" that Adnan didn't testify was absolutely cringeworthy. This is why I hate jury trials.
- Jay is shady as fuck. He either did it, is covering up for someone else or just lying about the whole thing.
- I think The Innocence Project raised an interesting point that it would be unlikely for Adnan to be a sociopath as they are pretty rare and it would be remarkable to run into one during her (Sarah's) first innocence/wrongful conviction case. They comprise only about 1% of the population, so rare indeed.
- So many of the witnesses were in high school, if not all of them. I really think this is a problem, at least raises serious doubt.
- There is a good deal of forensic evidence that was never tested. Again, big deal.
- NO MOTIVE
I just finished up episode 5 and I agree SO much with these points of Cole's that I bolded. Please TRIPLE bold the NO MOTIVE one.
Here are some issues I have up to the point I am at (again I only just finished episode 5)
- Jay's story keeps changing (I think he is a liar pants who lies)
-The 2:36 call the cops are using as the "I did it, come get me" call but Jay says it wasn't till 3:40ish that this call came. At 2:36 Asia says that Adnan was in the library.
-Cell Tower/Call time frame
-The supposed payphone at Best Buy that no one could find/remember/locate
-Jays addition and then removal of the State Park part of the story
The forensic evidence is a huge one for me,the motive,my gut instinct. I didn't go into this wanting to bat for 1 person or another but Jay and this Jen person.....When I listen to them talk on the tapes I get the creeps. Adnan I don't. I have a pretty good judge of character I like to believe.
This is just crazy, I am way sucked in. I am sucking in all my friends,my DH,my boss at work.
Off to listen to episode 6 before work gets hectic with dinner time. (I will be back)
I just finished Ep. 1, I love/hate you all for the final push to start listening to these, now I'm off to start my spiral
It will change your life! I had already formed opinions after listening to the first episode. What are your first impressions?
I also want to add that I know that Sara and the helper did it in 22.2 minutes or whatever but that 21 min time frame I have an issue with. It would have had to be to fast, perfect and smooth and I also think that having never killed anyone before to do it perfect and by strangling the very first time...I don't buy it.
If you strangle someone by hand, where are the finger prints around her neck to be matched up with the hands of the killer? Maybe they talk about this later on but so far this has not been brought up. That would have been my first want/need to know as cop/detective. Maybe I watch to much crime t.v but to me this seems like the logical place to go.
You can always PM I would love to hear your theories. I am just trying to catch up so I am in the "know" with you ladies. But right now I am still team he didn't do it.
@Cambury108 so far I don't trust Jay. Actually all of the audio of his police interviews made me uncomfortable. In part I felt like there were a lot of leading questions being asked. Not being in the field I don't know if that is typical.
I'm not sure also if I trust Asia. It is uncanny how much detail she remembers.
I'm downloading a couple more episodes for work tomorrow.

I don't download, I listen on SoundCloud but I am connected to WIFI.
Anyway the way that the cops talk to these people is from what I know normal BUT Jay has been hair on the back of my neck raising since the beginning. I don't like him.
I do trust Asia, I don't think its uncanny but I have a memory like a steal trap to life events, especially if important. I can recall things from 10+ years ago like it was yesterday down to what someone was wearing. My DH could be in the same situation with me and be like "IDK" I think everyone's brain works different. The fact that its been 15 years and she still remembers pretty much verbatim makes me believe her more.
I just listened to episode 6 but so far another thing that is questionable to me is Nisha, Why if Adnan just had murdered some girl and him and Jay had buried her did she not see any physical evidence on them. Dirty fingernails, rumpled dirty clothes?
I think my whole problem with this case is the evidence.............
So I'm in the middle of episode 5. I was trying to to read this thread, but knowing 'spoilers' hasn't ruined it for me so far, and actually makes me pay attention more.
I'm hooked.
I don't think Adnan killed Hae. Jay is lying, but I don't know why.
I hope we hear more about Stephanie! I feel like she is a big missing piece so far.

Plus this Jen person.....at least I need to know more about her. I am only 1 episode in front of you. We seem on the same page mostly. Be my friend!
I really wonder about what the cell records were for others during that time. I mean, calls (used to) happen all the time. Using only Adnans seems like they are trying to make the evidence fit the conclusion.

Didn't the investigator they talked to pretty much say this? I don't remember if they were talking about the cell records or the DNA that was tested, but he definitely said as much.
It wasn't an investigator on the case, just one offering his opinion.
It was someone from the innocence project that said they actually used cell records to exonerate someone. They showed the records from the rest of the group of friends and found that any of them could match the timeline (or something like that).
Its episode 7 the 1 I am currently listening to. The Innocence Project lady seems to believe Adnan is innocent.
I don't know if she thinks he is innocent as much as she thinks it should be looked into further.
Maybe that is the better way to put it but when SK asks the IP team and she says flat out do any of you think he did it you can hear multiple people say "No" OR maybe I heard wrong I was cooking dinner at the same time so only kinda 3/4 listening.
Anyone have any information into Jay's situation. Why he didn't get ANY time at all in jail for being an accessory because that is what he was by definition of the law correct? Did he at least get probation or something?
And why didn't he call/page Hae when she went missing? ESP if they were that close???
I bought it when he said pretty much "everyone in my group of friends was calling her nonstop so if I or didn't call it's not like I was missing anything."
I mean if her BFF was paging her every 5 minutes and Adnan knew that, it makes sense to me that he wouldn't necessarily page too. I wouldn't.

Keep listening. Episode 8 or 9 covers Jay.
I am about to finish up episode 8. So far they haven't answered my questions maybe episode 9 will. I want answers NOW lol.

So I got my answer, I don't like it. Nice to know you can be that involved with a murder and just get what he got. I am sorry but he should have served jail time. He knew about the supposed intent to kill Hae but yet did nothing. If this is all true and Adnan did do it then if Jay had spoken up she could still be alive. I have quite a lot of feelings on this.
I think Adnan did it, Jay was obviously involved and it doesn't make sense he would kill Hei. I think he shouldn't have been convicted based on the evidence, though. I've just started reading Rabia's blog, though. She's very passionate and goes over the cell phone records and other evidence
She may be able to convince me of his innocence.
It to me does not make sense for Adnan to kill her either.
I just finished episode 9 that is the episode they talk about Adnan's life in prison. If he was truly a psychopath a killer or any of these things that have been tossed around then don't you think it would have shown in that environment by now?
Or Mr. S killed her cuz he's a creeper and Jay was involved in the same way but decided to throw Adnan under the bus instead of Mr. S because Stephanie.

Thin. Speculative. No Bueno.
