Who passed/failed the 1hr glucose test?

Re: Who passed/failed the 1hr glucose test?

  • Barely passed the 1 hr coming in at 140, any higher and I would have had to do the 3 hr.

This annoys me-I failed with 140. Good for your for escaping the 3 hour.
I'm annoyed too. I wish I went to your doctor.

    Passed with a 59, jfc.

ETA - is this ridiculous? I mean - can they even trust this result? Has anyone else heard of someone being this low? I swear I drank exactly 11.5 ounces of purple grape juice exactly 1 hr before they drew my blood!
59? That's like the opposite. My husband had to fast for a blood test his insurance company gave...and he got I think 69. I know he has low blood sugar issues...is your Dr. concerned at all?
My test results show I got a 115 and that the 'Standard Range' is 70-140. Not sure if that means 59 is reason for concern. I have low platelet counts and have been monitored for that throughout my pregnancy. They have dipped well below the 'Standard Range' and my Dr. still wasn't concerned.

I would check with your Dr. if you are worried!
  • I put 'passed'. Technically, I did a 2 hour glucose (that's standard here) but was well below the levels on both. I actually had pretty low after two hours (like 58), which I was really surprised about. I'll see my ob on Monday and be asking him about the results.
  • I'm going with SS. My appointment isn't until the 23rd, and I'm a little weirded out by that. By my doctor's estimates, I'll be 29 weeks at that point, which seems very late to be doing the test.

I haven't taken mine yet. I go in 2 weeks. Here's hoping I pass! Anything I can do to help lessen my chances of failing?

Other than fasting if you are told to, and avoid eating/drinking anything sugary prior to your test, not really. Several women who fail a one hour pass the three hour. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do to cause or prevent GD.
So I mentioned this to my doctor, and she kind of freaked me out. She looked at me like I was crazy and said, "you absolutely can prevent GD with diet and exercise during pregnancy."

Eta- only mention because I sort of felt like she was guilting me...
You would think then that when you found out you were pregnant all doctors would be pushing a certain diet and exercise regimen to prevent GD then. And that there would be a higher instance of it in women who are out of shape/ don't or are unable to exercise or eat worse due to food aversions, nausea etc. I'm not saying diet and exercise wouldn't help (as I'm sure a doctor would know more than me), but if that is all it took to prevent it I would think there would be lower rates of GD and a big push to modify diet and exercise to prevent it.

ETA : That both the Mayo clinic and CDC info I just quickly looked up online said diet, exercise and weight loss prior to pregnancy may reduce your risk, but not all causes of GD are known and some women get it regardless. If you are at risk for diabetes in general your risk for GD looks higher, but CDC lists having twins, being over 25, family history and a few others as putting you at higher risk as well.

  • Took my second 3 hour yesterday. I tried to read a book and ended up passing out from sugar crash the second hour. It took a toll on me this time and I still don't feel normal between the 3 day diet leading up to it, fasting, and then drinking all that sugar.

My advice is to bring a book if you can stay awake to read it and don't bring anything else in with you. Also, leave time after to eat and possibly nap. That sugar crash is no joke.

  • Took mine 2 weeks ago and passed with 109. I'm very thankful I don't have to take the 3 hour.
  • I just took my one hour. Really hoping I passed since I failed the one hour with my daughter. I don't want to have to do the three hour again.

  • I was never offered the 1 hour test, my OB signed me up for the 3 hour one right off the bat. I took it yesterday so don't know what the results are yet. I see my OB for my regularly scheduled appt next week.

Your doctor is dangerously uneducated about the topic. Even a casual Wikipedia scan states that causes are unknown.

Your Dr. is extremely uneducated on this subject.  I personally have have been on a low carb/low sugar diet since I got pregnant.  I walk 1-2 miles a day and swim 3x a week.  Up until 2 weeks ago (25 wks), I had only gained 10lbs.  I passed my early 1 hour test with flying colors.  Then everything changed.  I gained 8lbs. in 2 wks and started feeling terrible.  My Dr. had me go in for a second 1 hr test and I failed, even while already taking Metformin.  He assured me that I had done everything I could to prevent GD, but it was not in the cards for me.  You can be predisposed if diabetes runs in your family or if you have PCOS.

This.  I just found out at my appointment yesterday that my MFM currently has GD (she just told us at our last appointment that she's pregnant), as well.  I'm pretty confident that if there was an iron clad way of preventing this, she would've deployed it.

  • Failed the 1, passed the 3.  Took them both early due to my BMI.   I refused to take them again 3rd tri cause the 3 hour test is brutal.   So they allowed me to take an A1C test, which I got 5.8.

  • Failed the 1 hour with my first pregnancy, but passed the 3 hour.  Passed the one hour with this pregnancy with a number of 119.  At my practice, anything over 131 is a fail.

  • I MA taking the test right now. Anyone else get heartburn from the drink?
  • I failed. Just got a call that I have GD.
  • @luvsponies‌ 2-3 Days should be enough time for your OB to have the results if the lab is in the office or if their office is at the hospital. I would call if you'd like to know. I'm sure it would just take a minute for a nurse to look it up and call you back if they had it. If they had it and it was elevated I would hope they would call you, but I am impatient with things like this and would not want to wait to find out either.

@mangomimosa‌ I passed with a 66, it just means you have a low blood sugar. I doubt your dr will be too concerned, just eat lots of protein to maintain your blood sugar so it doesnt crash. My regular doctor has me eating once every 2 hours fall and winter, then in the spring and summer I eat once an hour cause the heat effects my blood sugar.
  • Sorry for the stupid question - I take my 3 hour test tomorrow & I know I have to fast tonight. But I totally forgot to ask if I had to stop drinking water. Does anyone know? I can't imagine that drinking water will hurt...but obviously my docs office is closed now and I didn't think of it before. I'm so stupid for setting the test so early too, I don't want to stop eating at 7 on a Friday night!

@colleen4019 My instructions from my midwife said drinking water was ok.  I am not sure if it varies depending on the doctor and the lab, but water should not affect the result as it contains no sugar or anything really.

ETA:  In any case, any water you have prior to going to bed will not be an issue.

That's what I assumed, but it honestly didn't even occur to me until about 15 minutes ago. Doctor Google has some conflicting responses. I'll probably just take it easy on the water- pregnancy has turned me into a mouth breather (lovely) and I feel like I need to sip at water all day.

    Thanks!!

Mine was 63. Idk either, they never called me to tell me if I was okay or not. It's baffling though. I do have lower than normal blood pressure and hemoglobin, so maybe that factors into it?? I try to eat healthy (Although I know I could be better, heck I ate a whole bag of m&ms yesterday and followed it up with a medium chocolate frosty!) Sometimes, you just have to go with it and hope for the best.
  • Sitting in my 3 hour now. I'm so bored.
  • I have my apt for this on Monday. With my first pregnancy I wanna say I was between 136-140 & they made me do the three hour which I passed. But not sure when I would go this time, ugh the 3 hour with my 3.5 year old would be a nightmare!

  • As long as the doc is ok with you drinking water, keep hydrated. Some people have trouble metabolizing carbs when dehydrated, which leads to slightly higher readings. If you are borderline, it might keep you from doing the 3-hour.
  • I automatically got the 2 hour the first time and passed. Not sure which one I get at 28 weeks.
