Just joined and this is the first thread I've read and all I have to say is WOW. Are you ladies serious? I can't believe the level of hateful bitchiness I just read on this post. First jumping all overthe OP because she called 911 for what you don't deem an emergency then attacking another woman for commenting on here when she's due March? Seriously? This is supposed to be a support group for expectant mothers and this how you treat posters? I'm absolutely disgusted and needless to say I will not be back.

Did you get a concussion before joining?! Did you just scroll past the support I received earlier in this thread regarding my loss? How about reading the PGAL board and seeing the support? Or the thread with the woman saying goodbye because she lost her baby? Maybe those weren't interesting enough to grab your attention.
There is support here. You have to give to receive. No one rushed to pat me on the head my first time here. But like others, I've been contributing for at least three months.
We will call out bullshit and stupidity, but when shit goes south, these women are here to help you the best any stranger on a forum possibly could.
@Mama2blu+new in FL EMS or Fire Dept will come and check you out b/c they are all crossed trained so I see how that can happen. But I would have still gone to the ER to be sure.
New to April 15, but read this post and just had to add...
I am a paramedic. We work closely with fire, and respond to all our calls together (they go to medical, we go to fires) when things hit the fan, the more trained hands around the better. The firefighters in my state (with few exceptions) are all paramedics as well. I'd have no qualms having any of them examine me medically. We're all medical professionals and bodies are bodies.. if we have to look, it's for diagnostics. I promise they promptly forgot all about your call after they got back to the station! We see worse and are called to more insignificant things, trust me!
Perhaps just give it a few before waking us up next time
ETA... I just was introduced to the app and decided to jump in. Sorry if I was creeper status!
I had a minor tear like that while I was pregnant with my daughter. But I wasn't gushing blood. That must've been super scary. And my husband and I accidentally tore my stitches after my daughter was born, which was absolutely no fun. Just try to keep everything super clean... U don't want to get an infection... I hope u feel better!!!
Op is this your first pregnancy? I just ask because this actually happened to me last week, but i know it was because my hubby and me had rough sex and i have torn down there with previous childbirth. Oh and i just had a baby a year ago. It does happen to some women. I know it was scary for you and sorry you had to go through this. Hope you are ok and call your MD. Just to be sure everything is a ok sweetie. Good luck
Ok, kind of afraid to post here, and considered just avoiding... but hopefully this doesn't seem too much like a WK.
As an EMT/Firefighter... these things do totally happen. Some of our officers and chiefs are medical duty officers and that's the one that on a call has the lead over all of the responders on a medical scene. It is plausable that if it was a medical duty officer and happened to be a chief, that person may be the person giving medical advice. Most especially if they are female and the rest male.
If a fire chief happened to be female and the rest male, they may also choose to divert to her considering the sensitive topic of vaginal bleeding.
If it stopped and you said you saw a vaginal tear... I don't know any EMT or Chief that would actually want to talk you into exposing yourself for examination unless they thought active bleeding was still taking place, or if they suspected miscarriage or labor.
Finally... depending on your location, it's entirely possible that the EMT's on the ambulance were just EMT's and the Chief may have been a certified paramedic or some higher level of training which would definitely make the chief the one who would give you the advice...
Medical emergency at that point? no. I wouldn't go to the ER either, but I'd probably call my nurse line. But if I was doing anything and there was lots of blood, I'd be calling 911.
Wow. Just got caught up on everything from yesterday. BIG THANKS to everyone wishing me well, to those who sympathize, to those who shared personal (sometimes "TMI") experiences and knowledge on the subject, and to those concerned enough to ask questions to help fill in the blanks of this very bizarre occurrence. I really appreciate it all. @JessNally I'm really sorry for your loss and I did not mean to trigger anything painful from your past. Thank you for sharing your story for the benefit of us all. You were brave to drive yourself to the hospital that night. Now I will attempt to remember some questions asked because I haven't learned yet how to directly reply to each post: No, we were not using toys and the sex was not aggressive. Sex at 1am was not my 1st choice. SO is a night owl and frankly, I was horny!
Quick update: Saw my midwife yesterday and everything is fine. No Frankenvag!!! No stitches required and no infection. Thank Gawd! She gave me tips to promote healing (raw honey mixed with olive or coconut oil, calendula, arnica pills diluted in water). She explained that hormones in pregnancy cause the tissues to be extra supple and prone to breakage, which explains why the cut is probably worse than if I wasn't pregnant. And, as we all know, our blood volume almost doubles in pregnancy, explaining all the blood. The situation went from crazy scary and intense to totally understandable and under control in a matter of minutes. We decided to call 911 in those 1st really scary minutes when I didn't know why I was bleeding. I also knew infections take time to develop so my risk was low before I saw my midwife not more than 36 hours later. I didn't go to the hospital based on my own evaluation of the cut and on what the fire chief, who seemed knowledgeable about the subject, advised me. He literally told me, after the bleeding had stopped and I described the wound to him.."they will send you back home with instructions to see your OB in the morning and hand you a $900 bill". I was feeling baby move, knew the bleeding was not internal and felt ok with waiting. And it turned out to be a good decision. I won't knock anyone who would have chosen to not call 911 OR head to the ER. I understand that you made the best decision at the time for you and your family, while under pressure, pain, and confusion.
I want to apologize for my own negativity. I shouldn't have lashed back at what I felt was unnecessary scrutiny, criticism and lack of sympathy from some of you. Yes, I know I can't dictate people's responses but I guess i didn't feel any of it to be warranted and was kind of shocked by it. For the record I didn't ask for anyone's advice. I asked for similar experiences so I could better wrap my head around a situation that was just as, or even more crazy for me than it is for any of you to hear. I guess understanding it gives me a sense of comfort too (from strangers, yes, but we are all women and mothers which I feel bonds us to a degree) about it. Hair pets? Not exactly. Camaraderie, probably. But you're right. I didn't need to lash back so I apologize for that and I apologize for making some of you cringe and squeeze your legs closed from all the gruesome deets. I've been told before I'm a decent storyteller ;-)
Glad everything was okay OP! For what it's worth I thought this post was hilarious and I'm glad that it has turned in to something your SO and you can now laugh about because I'm sure it was scary!

Lurk a bit before you make a blanket assumption.

I feel like I'm missing something. I've never seen this movie?
I'll be sure to do that!
