Scary! vaginal tear- anyone else??

Hope everyone is having a lovely Monday :)
So last night, fiancé and I are getting it on. Something happened and he slipped out awkwardly and missed the entry point and ended up literally stabbing me in the vagine! I yelled out in pain, felt immediate burning and then all of a sudden we both felt lots of liquid everywhere.
It was dark so we couldn't see if it was blood or amniotic fluid. OMG we freaked!!!
I jumped up gushing this fluid everywhere, went to the bathroom and turned on the light. It was blood. Lots of it. Everywhere. Gushing out of me and now into the toilet.
My mind immediately went to the baby and if she was ok.
We called 911 and the firemen came first. By the time they came the bleeding had subsided a lot and I was just trying to stay calm in bed.
Long story short-- I cleaned up and was able to see that it was a pretty significant vaginal tear in the inner labia area. The chief said it was pretty common and I didn't need to go to the ER.
This had never happened to me!!! All that blood!
Today I am swollen and sore but the bleeding has pretty much stopped.
I plan on going to see my midwives tmrw just for them to take a look but this has me curious --- has this happened to any of you before?
I'm terrified I will need stitches or something, although it could be much worse than that.
It was quite a super scary situation and I'm sure if I was not pregnant I would have quickly concluded it to be a tear.

  • I know!!! @redneckmomma25‌ my poor vag!!!!!!
  • Nope never happened to me. I probably wouldn't post it on here if it did though, but that's just me..
  • Ow. Just ow.
  • Ha! Funny @DixieNormous330‌ that was exactly my thought afterwards. "This must be what it feels like to give birth vaginally." I had a c-section with my first so i can only imagine!
  • Consider it practice for delivery.
I was literally just thinking "Just wait until you push that baby out."

I'm sad now that I read this.

This happened to one of my friends (not pregnant, though) and I had totally forgotten (intentionally) until now. Ouch. Hope you heal up quickly!
  • It was very bizarre and I'm not exaggerating any of it.
I can SEE the tear and it's location.
I simply was wondering if anyone else had experienced something like this since the chief said it happens a lot. And no, he did not examine me.
It is a pretty gruesome account because, it was, well gruesome.
If I offend anyone, my bad. Move along. I'm still waiting to hear whether someone has had a similar experience.
Thanks to everyone with kind words!

Also, did the fire chief examine you? I'm sorry to be so suspicious if this really happened to you, but the whole thing sounds a little bizarre to me.

Yeah, fire chiefs aren't really in the business of examining vagines.  I find this fishy.

I have to agree with this. Why would the fire chief be there? Your vagina tore, your house wasn't in flames.

  • 1. That's so scary. I'm never having sex again. 2. Why didn't EMS come instead of the fire department? I know they're technically emergency responder, but why not EMS?
  • This sounds awful and I'm sorry it happened to you OP. I don't think I would have accepted the fire chief's opinion to be sound...what fire chief regularly responds to calls about vaginal injuries?!?

  • Ladies- I called 911 and asked for an ambulance but like every time you call 911, every frikking body shows up.
Firetruck happened to beat the ambulance to my house.
I didn't want 4 men in my bedroom at 1am and I had no control over that.
They did calm me down though and the chief seemed to know a thing or two more about this than we did.
There's nothing fishy about this, this actually happened and there is no reason to think otherwise.
    Bizarre shit happens to people.
  • I guess I should mention that when I called 911 I hasn't made the connection that it was a vaginal tear. I told them I was bleeding heavily and was pregnant and I guess they wanted everyone on the scene.

I guess this doesn't happen that often after all, chief
  • I see. But did EMS ever examine you? Do make sure you visit your MW or MD to be sure you don't get an infection. You don't need that.

Okay but why did the fire chief examine you and not an EMT? That's where I think a lot of the disconnect for most of us lies. And as @SharkFarts‌ said, you can get a major infection from this, if you don't have it treated properly by a doctor.

  • No and u scared the hell out of me. I wasn't feeling the whole sex thing this pregnancy and now I really want no part of it. Feel better though

  • Fire chief said I would need to get into the ambulance and to the ER if I wanted to be examined. He said they really wouldn't do anything in the ER unless the gash was really, really bad and I didn't stop bleeding. The fact that the bleeding had stopped I guess signaled to them that it wasn't a true emergency?? It was pretty sound reasoning to me.
My fiancé helped me identify the tear and they left telling me to make an appt with my midwives, which I have.

  • Calling 911 turned out to be overkill but when your vag is bleeding uncontrollably and you're pregnant and have a sleeping 3 year old in the house, getting help to you as quick as possible is the best call. At least that was my thinking in those very scary first 30 seconds.
The ambulance did show up eventually but they never came in because by that time we had all decided that I wasn't going to the ER.

Give people the benefit of the doubt. Just because a situation doesn't add up in your head doesn't mean it is a lie, or anything else but the truth.
What some people have done is ask clarifying questions, which is fine.
I left out some parts of the story to get to my point which is to find out if anyone had a similar experience.
  • @ally3242‌ No, neither the fire chief nor the EMT examined me.
I was able to clean up and see the tear myself. Based on what I saw and relayed to the chief he told me I probably didn't need to go to the ER but should definitely see my midwives.
  • Thanks again to everyone wishing me well :)

I'm not trying to WK. I'm really not. But I have to say, where I used to live, if I had to call 911 the fire department would definitely show up before the EMT. By quite a bit actually.

Same. I'm less than a mile from a fire station and maybe 15-20 mins from a hospital. But I wouldn't call for that reason. I hemorrhaged "down below" before and called my dr, called my mom, dropped my kid off and drove myself to the hospital. I'm not calling 911 unless it's the last resort and a huge emergency. That's me though.
  • I hope everything heals quickly. This is terrifying and I also won't be having sex anytime soon!
  • @JessNally‌ were you pregnant when you were hemorrhaging?
I felt like I had seconds to decide what to do and calling 911 seemed like the best option.
I would never get into a car drive myself anywhere bleeding like that.
  • @miahbelle‌ excuse my ignorance but what does WK mean?
  • @MOtownMama‌ he would have, absolutely! But the chief's advice made sense to us and given that it was 1am and we would have had to wake my 3 year old, AND the bleeding went from really bad to nothing, we decided against it. Everyone's point about infection is valid and that's why I have an appt with my midwives.
I should also say I've been keep the area clean and the swelling and pain have decreased since last night.
  • @ClaireHuxtable‌ she hasn't had her vag examined yet.....not even by the fire chief....

  • Oh...thanks @rsaj0807‌ and I thanks @miahbelle‌ for making my story a little more trustworthy to some, ha!

I have to admit I have had a tear before and recently had another one.

The first time was years ago before I got pregnant. It was painful, light spotting/bleeding and I called my OBGYN. It healed on it's own and really was not a big deal.

I had no idea about the last tear. This one occurred a few weeks ago. I didn't have any spotting or feel any pain until an exam where the doctor wanted to check my cervix because of cramping. It was discovered during that exam. My doctor said that the area is more sensitive and easily torn while pregnant. Further, my doctor said it would heal on it's own. Again not a big deal.

    I hope that helps.
  • Ummm @clairhuxtable‌ in your attempt to be funny you got the story completely wrong. Move along, please you have nothing to add here. Not even comedy.
