Mine's non-Christmas related... I decided to give Dr. Who a try on Netflix this week since I caught up on my other shows, and since I'm a geek and I love sci-fi and I thought it would be right up my alley. I was horrified. I barely made it through the pilot. So cheesy, awful acting, ridiculous storyline... I don't get it. Is it the original Dr. Who that has such a cult following or do people actually watch the remake? I feel like I've never wasted an hour of my life quite to that extent before...

Don't be too alarmed, there are a lot of hardcore geeks who don't like it. I personally am one of them. The writing is just not at all stimulating to me, and the characters don't make me sympathize with them, or care about them. I don't get the popularity, but that's why there are so many flavors of SciFi out there for us :p.

K so I thought the same thing at first, honestly. But then H made me go back and watch the original. Like, the 1950s, black and white, horrible audio, british original. And when you do that, the STYLE of the newer ones makes sense. I'm not saying I'm in love with the show, but it's definitely something I'll watch now, vs before when I wondered internally why I was wasting my time. :P

Plus I like the whole story of the Daleks and how they go back to the 1950s as an original villain.
  • UO regarding a Christmas Card I just got: It's one sent out by my childhood friend's parents of them and their 2 adult children who have moved out and one is recently engaged. I think it's too old to have a family card done or if they are going to do it they should have included the fiancé in the photo. I'm interested to see how people feel about this because I feel like a grinch typing it out but the other part of me is thinking, "cut the damned cord!" It's time for your grown kids to decide if they want to distribute their own holiday cards.

My aunt and uncle treat their grown children (25 and 27) like they're still little kids and pull the same kind of shit.  It's so fucking weird.  My parents, brothers, and I all have to swallow our nausea at family events because it goes beyond pictures.  Tell me, ladies, who here would sit on your father's lap?  Anyone?  Yeah, my female cousin (27 and married) cuddles with my uncle on his lap at family gatherings and oh my God, the WILLIES!!!!  YUCK!!!!

C has a nice camera and is good at photography so she gets tasked with taking pictures at our family events.  I love watching her grimace when she does their family shots.  She's as freaked out by it as we are.

I'll also add that my 27 year old cousin is married to her 57 year old former high school coach.  Yeah.  That was quite the scandal.  I never see him because her parents won't let him attend our family events.  Yet they carry on like they're the Cleaver family despite it all.  Creepy, I'm telling ya.
