GL @Eora3 . We have lots of guns, but we keep them locked in a safe, especially because of the kiddos. I do feel safer when I am home alone knowing they are there, mostly we have them for hunting though.
We don't have much of a gun culture here either. I've shot BB guns and air pistols and I'm deadly with a compound bow, but I don't ever plan to fire a real gun.
Sending positive thoughts your way, @Eora3--hope all goes well today!
Work is throwing a baby shower for me and another co-worker who is due 4 days before me this afternoon. I got her a little something (a tiny, soft stuffed bunny) as I felt weird contributing to the pot for myself, but now feel shy about it. I totally waited until she left for lunch to leave it on her desk.
I hope there are lots of dessert-type items at the shower. I'm grumpy and have been referred to as 'fully-loaded' today.
December '14 November Siggy Challenge - How I Feel in Third Trimester
My dad loaned us a gun when we lost power for a week back in 2011 after the tornados that swept through Alabama. We were getting reports of robberies and such and have no fence for our yard so felt pretty vulnerable. Slept a lot easier with the gun, but then my DH is a veteran and a really good shot, so I wasn't worried.
My dad bought me a gun after I got pregnant and mentioned I got nervous coming home when it was dark and was by myself for the evening. DH was finishing up school so he was out most nights till 9pm or so. I felt safer having one in my nightstand which is where it still is! We need to put locks on our cases now that DD has access but I really want the key code ones instead cause they're faster.
They have small cases where you put your hand on the top of it and push a series of buttons at once or in a series, those are pretty quick too.

More power to you if you're comfortable with guns in the house, but I have never been. I'm comfortable with them in general, have been to a shooting range, but I can just see too clearly in my head how accidents could happen. Hopefully my dog, a security system, and a baseball bat will be enough...
D14 November, because I am finally not on mobile, how I feel in 3rd tri:
like the idea of a bigger one, but would feel better having my own right next to me for quicker acess. I feel I could also just grab mine and run for the kids if needed too without depriving DH should anything terrible happen. Just hate the prices for the damn things, ugh!
I remember once when I was in high school, my parents were gone and I thought I heard the front door open. I didn't have anything around me, so I grabbed a pen and went to investigate. Shortly after this was when Dh taught me how to shoot.
Mine is a .45 magnum. I like the weight and it fits my man hands.
And nope, not under my pillow @MissChristineMarie! I did forget about the 3rd gun we have I sleep next to every night...it's between my DH's legs. THAT one is always loaded
@chelseavranich I bought my husband a 22-30 as an anniversary gift to go ground hog hunting. I actually have bought a lot of guns as gifts haha he did buy me a new shot gun that is so pretty and it came in after we found out about baby, so I haven't got to shoot it yet

@MissChristineMarie If it makes you feel better, cats make me nervous. You never know what those little assholes will do,
I love kitties. It's big dogs that scare me. I blame my mother... she is deathly afraid of big dogs and that has been passed down to me. It takes me awhile to warm up to any big dog, always. ------ So with our workers comp / accident forms that employees have to fill out we have WAYYYYY more cat bites than dog bites (work for 10 vet offices). Dogs usually warn you before biting cats not so much. Cats are sneaky jackholes... Like snakes.
@BayCamp Totally just reminded me of a little trip to The Gun Store in Vegas (met my mom and brothers there in the middle of their road trip)! Tried out an M249 SAW, but man- I sure love me some sniper rifle!!
**I love shooting, but I'd never shoot at something alive... unless I was holding a paintball gun

Although you can't put a price on safety
Dh used to do this, but I made him put it on the night stand because I thrash around way too much in my sleep to feel safe like that!
