For a girl we like Nora, Audrey, or Penelope. For a boy, Edison, Henry, or Owen.
The issue we're having is that some of our favorite names have become very popular in recent years. I don't want my DD to be one of ten Penelopes in her class even though I love the name. What's the cut off we go by? Nix the name if it its in the top 20? Top 10? Top 50? I can't decide how much this matters to me versus how much I just want to use names I really like.
I wonder this too. At what # popularity does it become common to have more than 1 in a classroom? I'm not great with statistics, but I remember learning once that in a classroom of 24 pupils, there is a better chance than not of 2 pupils sharing a birthday. That means that if all pupils have names in the top 365, there's a good chance of 2 having the same name. Top 365 is a LOT though, I'd struggle to find anything less popular than that that I liked.
eta: in the shower, where all important thinking happens, I realized this logic was dumb since baby name popularity lacks the randomness of birthdays.
My fathers name was ken and I was named after him (Kendra) so when he passed away I decided I'd really like to keep with tradition and if and when I had a girl I would include ken in the name... We know the middle name will be jade but we are back and forth between - kenley, kensi, or kenleigh.
If we have another boy we have two names either Ezra James or Cyrus James
We have Jul.ia Ro.se and Lu.ca Raf.ael right now. If this baby is a girl, her name will be Eliana Clare. Eliana means "God has answered (my prayers)" and we have been trying and praying for another baby for a while now. Clare is after St. Clare of Assisi.
As for a boy, DH has shot down my #1 choice, which was Lorenzo Dominic (nickname Enzo). He also said he doesn't want to talk names yet. I like Matteo (means gift of God), Gianni or Giovanni (God is Gracious), Santiago (or possibly just Tiago, which is common in Brazil where DH is from), and Emilio. Middle name will be Dominic, I'm 95% sure, after St. Dominic.
Mama to two crazy kiddos J -- 9/04 L -- 11/10 E -- 7/15
All I know is that if this baby is a boy, he may never be named. It took DH and me the entire pregnancy to name DS1. I can think of a ton of girls names that I love, but boy names have always been so difficult for me!
I'm loving Emalyn Faye for a girl (Faye being my mom's middle name) and Owen Michael for a boy (Michael being DH's middle name) - they are bound to change though since DH is picky and won't talk about it yet.
DH loves Austin for a boy so that paired with Michael - hubbys name. A girl is very undecided although her middle name will be lynn like me and my mother.

We've had Theodore picked out as the top boy name for a while now. I am surprised to see it mentioned often in this thread! I don't know any kids names Theodore, I just love the name. We settled on Theodore Ezra for the full name.
I'M STUCK IN THE BOX
I was surprised to see Theodore mentioned so many times too! Our DS is Theodore William and when we announced his name, we got a lot of side-eyes. I love it though and it suits him so well! As for this little bean, we're thinking Henry for a boy or Courtney for a girl. Undecided for either middle names.
I also have been searching the popularity of names that I like. Growing up there *were way too many Brittany's and Ashley's to count, so I prefer names that are classic but where my child won't be one of ten with the same name in the class. It's not fun to have go add your last initial to distinguish... "Harper S., Harper L. and Harper T. come pick up your tests"
For a girl we will go with Eleanor Grace and call her Elle and for a boy likely Mason Ryan or Dax Alexander.
Love!
If it's a girl we're going with Lux as her first name and for middle I was wanting Ellanorah or Elle. If it's a boy we're naming him Richard Lane.
@cherish1986 I love your names! Did you get Lux from The Virgin Suicides? That movie is amazing.
Yes the movie is amazing!!!!! There was a tv show on The CW called Life Unexpected. When we moved we didn't have cable and we went on a Netflix binge and we came across this show. AH-Mazing. I have a pretty unique name so I wanted our daughter to have something just as unique as she will be - that is if our firefly is a girl.
I found a great aritcle here that explains how to determine just how popular a baby name will be ie will there be another in the same class or school. The good news is that even if you choose the #1 name, it's still only like 1 out of 100 babies, so it's unlikely your kid will share a name with someone in class every year.
Roman Xavier OR Aden Douglas for a boy.... Jasmine Zander is top pick for a girl now. (:
I Love Roman for a boy!!! Seems like a very strong name. Can't nMe my son like that though because there is a feud in my DH's family, and the evil uncle's name is Roman. Bummer.

Me- 28, DH- 32 ----> together six years, married June 2012
TTC ---> since the wedding night Initial diagnosis of PCOS, currently labeled as unexplained infertility
Clomid and trigger shot regimen BFP 12/20/13, EDD 8/25/2014, baby got his wings at 11 weeks and 3 days.
We've only decided on a girl name: Ava Pearl. My H and mom both LOVE the name Ava and after I had our first daughter, I agreed that if we ever had another it could be named Ava. Pearl is a family name. We have NO IDEA for a boy though
We like Owen for a boy after my father who passed away last year (it was his middle name). For a girl, we both really like Hailey. Also Avery or Grace are in the mix too.
Eva Grace-Eva after my great-grandmother Geneva and Grace because DH really likes it Anniston 'Annie'-my granny's name was Annie, my other grandmother's middle name is Ann, my mama's middle name is Ann along with about half a dozen other family members Lenore 'Lennie'-DH and I both like it Others in the running are Reagan, Rowan, Lennon, Avery, Charlotte-'Lottie', Chandler, Sadie, and Kensington
Deacon Wayne-We are diehard Nashville fans. If DD2 was a boy her name would be Deacon. We still love it, and Wayne is a family name. Others in the running are Jack, Fitzgerald, Theodore, Nathaniel, Samuel, Major, Knox, Lincoln, Harrison, Chandler, Griffin, and Fisher
For a boy we picked Grayson Richard For a girl we picked Lennox...but not sure on a middle name...we want something girly...I kind of like Grace for the middle name just not positive yet.
A good site for names is: thebabywizard.com It gives you the popularity of the name as well as suggestions for similar names in the same category and suggestions for sibling names.
There are so many good names! DH and I are thinking for a boy either Kace Bryant or Aiden Kace for a girl we are thinking either Kadence Marie or Grayson Rachelle. It's so hard to pick!! (
We're pregnant with our first but we've had names picked for a while now. The husband wants to name our first after his dad, so if it's a boy we have Franklin Michael, and if it's a girl we have Francine Lily. That way he gets the first name. Plus I like them since they are a little unusual but not too much.
Boo, we just told our best friends about baby and then I told her hopefully we don't have the same girl name picked out. They weren't sharing their name, just that the two options started with an A and K, our top choice was Kiera. Turns out Kiera is one of the names they're bringing to the hospital for their girl due in March. We won't use it if they do since we're very close and it would seem weird to me, back to the drawing board! Of all the names in the world I think its funny we would choose the same one, at least we know we all have good taste
Maybe some of you ladies are in the same boat. . I am white and my DH is Mexican. We keep going back and forth between traditional Mexican and more "American" names, or a combo of both (one for the first name and the other for the middle name). He has an American name, and his brothers go by American nicknames rather than their traditional Mexican names, but DH still thinks he wants a child named Bonifacio or something equally traditional. Any other multicultural families? How are you handling this?
My husband is Italian, and his family is a traditional Italian family. He has a very American name, but a lot of his family does not. We looked at some Italian names first, but none of them seemed like a good fit, so we just decided to try and find names we both like, regardless of where it stems from. Good luck. Multicultural families are great but also come with their own curveballs.

For a boy we're going with maximus, partially undecided on the middle name. H wants to do maximus prime, strong chance I'll let it happen. For a girl I adore the name quinn. H hates every middle name I come up with for it. My favorite is quinn aurora, but he just isn't a fan. We'll see!

For a boy we've already decided years ago were naming him Derrick Boe Derrick is my fiancé's middle name Girls we haven't really decided much but I do like the name Emma but it's seems to be a popular choice so I'll probably look around some more
Right now we're pretty set on Isla Josephine for a girl and Dominic Luis for a boy. DH comes from a VERY traditional Puerto Rican family so we'll raise some eyebrows when we don't announce a little DH the Third.
I have a good friend due in May and she mentioned a million years ago that she liked the name Isla. She seems to be going in a different direction (and may be having a boy, who knows) so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. They announced the name pretty early with their daughter so hopefully I'll figure out if I'm headed back to the drawing board sooner rather than later.
@Ladybentspoon I totally get where you're coming from. DH has suggested some pretty weird names that I IMMEDIATELY nixed. I'm from the South so double first names and girls with family surnames seems normal to me, but DH couldn't wrap his head around it. I'm surprised we agreed on Isla!
-dd is Elise Laura - I had it picked out since I was 13, thankfully my dh loved it too. Laura is after my maternal great grandmother
Baby #2
Girls with middle name Rose (after my maternal grandmother) - Ella is my favorite but is it too popular? I also like Everly, Ellison, Genevieve to name a few. Girls names are easy for me.
Boys names with first name Isaac (a tradition in my dh family). I will call him by his middle name and I am finding Isaac is hard to pair with? My top two right now are Seth or Nate.
We will know what we are having in January!
BFP 10/31/12, MC 11/9/12 - We had to say goodbye before we could really say hello.
For a boy, i like Gavin Chase and Zander (Or Xander) Blake, both of which mh seem agreeable to luckily because he is picky. Some others on my list are Bradley, Colton, Cody, Jacob, Caleb, Declan, Brayden, and absolutely love Zachary.
And thankfully for a girl he likes my favorite, Gabriella Faith. I also like Madison Jane. Aside from the names i've paired up, i am in love with the name Mckenna...As well as a fan of Rachael, Paisley, Hailey, Hayden, Natalie, Brooke, Cassidy, Abigail, Peyton and Skylar
Re: Anyone want to discuss potential names?
For girl we like Emmelynn or Elizabeth not sure about middle names.
We already have a DS Jake Michael
If we have another boy we have two names either Ezra James or Cyrus James

Girls: Sabrina Knali and Nataliyah Monet
