When is your first ultrasound?

I am a first time mom! I shared my news with a friend yesterday and she told me she only had 2 ultrasounds her entire pregnancy...20 weeks and 36 weeks. She said her doctor didn't listen for a heartbeat until 14 weeks... What is normal? I am not sure what to expect...I'll be 8 or 9 weeks for my first appointment.

Normal is whatever your doctor/midwife and their practice do

It's too hard to answer because they all do it differently. Depends on them, whether you're high risk/low... could even depend on your health insurance.

I had my first one this past Friday, but I've had complicated pregnancies and they wanted to check things out. I'll have another at around 12 or so weeks (NT) and then the AS about midway through. Not sure after then.

As PP said I think normal really depends on your doctor.

I'm having my first US at 7 weeks with my RE and 8 weeks with my OBGYN. Not sure what happens after the 8 week mark.

My first will be dec 8 at about 10 weeks. It could have been earlier but we had scheduling conflicts. With my first it was at 9 weeks.

Mine won't be til 10-12 weeks. We are trying to go the birthing center route and they say unless you are high risk that's how they roll. (ok, I'm paraphrasing)

Last time, my first would have been at 20 weeks, but I asked for the NT scan at 12 weeks. My first appointment this time isn't until I'm 8 weeks along and I have a new doctor, so we'll see.

I will have an u/s on 12/1 when I'm 8weeks. Then another around 18-20w we usually listen for heartbeat at second appointment which I want to say is 12w.

6 weeks this time, but only because I had a mmc last time around.
With my first 2, I had dating u/s around 6 weeks because my cycles were totally crazy and we wanted an accurate edd (7 weeks off with my first! I knew I ovulated late thankfully

Mine was 4w, the 4w2 then 4w6, I have one at 6w...Tuesday! I had an ectopic two months ago, so that is why we did the first, the rest are because of my SCH and because I'm seeing a specialist! Previously we shot for 7 weeks!

I had one at 5 or 6 weeks the first time for dating, but this time they haven't even scheduled my first appointment until 8 weeks. Hopefully they'll schedule an us soon after that.

Like pp said it can definitely vary

mine was scheduled for ~10 weeks with my first prenatal workup, but I work with my OB and he let me come in for just an u/s at 7 weeks. As long as you aren't having any problems don't worry

Tomorrow at about 8.5 weeks. Then again at 12 weeks for NT scan. Then anatomy scan at 20 weeks and possibly 36 weeks.

Mine is Dec 6th @ 8 weeks. They're doing bloodwork and ultrasound. I have a history of losses so I think that's why they're doing the ultrasound.

It should be the week of Dec 1 around 6w. Than I will have a ton. Don't be jealous this is due to fertility treatments, still birth and multiple losses. I'd prefer to not need them.

My first us will be scheduled after my 3rd round of betas are drawn monday. They do them at 8 weeks and 20 weeks. Every other appointment is just doppler. If I did NT testing that would be an us at 12 weeks as well.

December 5th, which would put me at 8 weeks 3 days according to LMP, but I'm aboout 99% sure of conception date and I think I'll really be 7 weeks 6 days.

I'm having a dating and viability U/S at 7-5 - it's standard procedure to do it at the first appointment with my practice. I'm counting down the days, but I honestly think DH is more excited than I am.

I have my first ultrasound appointment on Dec. 16th, I will be just over 8 weeks. Being a FTM the wait is killing me. Lets hope between Thanksgiving and moving, I'm hoping time goes fast.

wow, my first Ultrasound is Dec 19 (11 weeks). I had my first appointment with a nurse practitioner at the OB's office at 6weeks, but all I did was pee in a cup to confirm and they took my weight and blood pressure and asked if I had any questions.

They'll also do bloodwork at the 11wk appt.

The schedule for my first was similar, I only had 2 my entire pregnancy! While it's hard to wait try and be thankful bc it means you have a very healthy, routine pregnancy. If your dr sees anything off at your first appt they might schedule one sooner. I also didn't heart hb until 12 weeks.

I had my first at 6 weeks. This was only because I had a natural miscarriage Labor Day weekend. My first ultrasound would have been at 20 weeks, unless I decided to do genetic testing at 12 weeks. As others have said, every OB is different.

My first appt is on the 8th and will be 8wks.

With my DD I had my first u/s at 8wks and then at every check up my Dr listened to the heart beat. I had another u/s for the genetic testing at around 11wks I think. Then another u/s at 20 wks to find out the gender and make sure everything is going ok and developing as it should. I had another ultrasound at around 36wks because my Dr was worried my fluids were low. Plus I was in L&D once with false labor so I got to see my DD then too, but that was a special circumstance.

If the OB I see wants to do one, it'll be at my first appointment at 8 weeks. If they don't, then at the a/s between 18-22 weeks.

My first was 5 weeks due to a suspected eptopic pregnancy and the next will be 13 weeks which I'm
so nervous about as they are so far apart and I'm hoping everything is ok.

Although it does differ per your doctor and your pregnancy. I was told 'typicaly' 2. I had 2 with my last pregnancy 8 weeks, proof of life and get an official due date and 20 weeks.

I'm scheduled for one a week from today -- I'll be (based on my estimates), just shy of 6w. I'm only getting one that early bc I'm high risk. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had one until week 12/13, most likely.
