I don't have any newborn sized pants. Any chance I can just put him in 0-3 or might he be way too tiny? I have 4 pairs in 0-3...
If you don't have any pants that fit, just... keep the baby in sleepers. He'll be okay. Nothing to fall down that way.
I'm just a FTM and I clearly don't have any class because 90% of my NB outfits are sleepers so my daughter is going to live in pyjamas all day every day for the first little while, but I don't care.
Sleepers are the best too much work to change clothes lets face it my son and I will probably live in pajamas for a while too since I do now anyways
How many sleepers do you have? I think I have two. I know that's definitely not enough!

I've got at least 7 plus I know more coming from a friend and I still haven't had my shower yet. I'll be well stocked by the time she get here
Jumping in late - but our birthing class suggested eating easily digestible foods. For the friend who ate a mexican meal - that would be the opposite of what I'm thinking of eating. Will probably try to do a bagel or something similar that I know will last a while and sits well in my belly. Will bring with some protein-granola bars etc.
My aunt (who's had 4 babies over 9lbs) says that she learned that the lighter the meal the better. Apparently there's one point during your labor that you get nauseous, and unless you've had a light meal it feels horrible. She said toast is the best for her.
Question about membrane sweep (I know, I suck to be asking about this!): is there ever a time before 40 weeks that it is recommended? My OB mentioned doing one at my next appointment or the one after (when I'll be 38 or 39 weeks respectively). I should have asked her, but I was kind of shocked that she had even suggested doing it as it just hadn't crossed my mind at this point. I'm currently 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced so I didn't know if it had anything to do with that, or if she's just jumping the gun a bit?
in general, a sweep is not going to help you unless your body is ready.

Last time, my OB offered at 38 weeks. I declined, she didn't bring it up again. At my 40 week appt, I asked for it. I went into labor about 30 hours later. It might have happened anyway or the sweep helped things along- no way to know.
I've heard varying reports of getting to do skin to skin following a c-section. Did anyone get to do this, or was LO whisked away immediately?
I would have been able to had I not been out of my gord. DH did it. I prepped him before hand he would do it. The pictures either he took, or someone else took of him are my favorite pictures ever. I think he's looking forward to it again since he already mentioned it.
Once you are closed up they will try to hand you the baby to nurse and bond. So you will get all the skin to skin action then.

I feel like all I'll be thinking about is food and how much stronger I'd feel if I ate. So, it's not a huge no-no to eat beforehand? Even if it's like a small bagel or something? Or maybe like a smoothie?
My water broke so maybe this is different, but I stopped at Carls Jr and ate a burger before I went to the hospital. It was 9pm and I didnt eat dinner because my water broke at 7pm and I figured I would be there forever. Good thing I did because I didnt have the baby till 7pm the next day! Then I had c-section, then got sick, so I actually didnt eat till 6am the following morning. I was starving!!!

I have a (possibly silly) FTM question. For those that HAVE had their water break before getting to the hospital or being induced, is there any symptoms or signs that might come before it happens that would indicate it may happen soon or were you feeling normal and all the sudden it started leaking? I know its probably different for everybody but a general idea is what I'm lookin for.
There's times I'm walking out the the mailbox or through the grocery store and I feel a sudden bit of pressure on my bladder/lady parts area and I stop in my tracks like 'oh sh*t am I about to become Niagara falls in aisle 12??' Lol
No sign whatsoever. All of a sudden water was leaking down my leg which was soon followed by gushes of water. Not everyone has gushes, some just have a trickle. I was extra special.

And I had no warning. Mine broke as I was rolling over in bed trying to get comfy. I had no contractions first. I felt/heard(I swear I heard it-might have just been in my head) a pop and was like "no way" and then a gush. Woke DH up and told him to grab a towel quick! It was a lot a fluid, but I was able to get a towel and to the bathroom before I made a huge mess.
I was at home having consistent contractions when my water broke with both girls. I think know it was going to happen though and I felt a very noticeable pop. Then yes, it was like Niagara
Am I the only one freakin out seeing all these ladies water breaking, babies being born, etc? I've read a ton, talk about it all the time, took classes, and I still don't quite believe that I'm going to have a baby in a few short weeks... Crap! I'm not ready to be someone's mom! Why did I think I was ready? Quick, I have to grow up!

Lol was just going to post about the water breaking.. so many new posts!. I'm definitely on edge these last few days. I don't want to put any clothes on that would be ruined, I don't want to sit or lay on anything or even get in my truck. Lol I feel like sitting on the toilet til my due date.
Even though my doctor told me he isn't letting me go past my due date of December 6th. So pipsqueak WILL be here on or before the 6th. Reality is sinking in deep!
Did I mention I'm so excited! Lol nerves are just getting me right now.
Alright ladies any of you have luck with bouncing on a labour ball or walking to help move an induction along??!the dr and nurses keep suggesting so I'm doing it? I'm actually bouncing as I write this just wondering if anyone else has had luck
I did both those things daily for a couple of weeks. I guess I'll never really know if that's what helped me go into labor earlier or if my body was just ready to do so. Either way it can't hurt.

Another possibly dumb question that I can't get a straight answer from googling: can I resume eating foods that were off-limits during pregnancy while breastfeeding? I'm thinking, like, raw sushi, moldy cheese, runny eggs, etc. I know about caffeine and alcohol rules, but don't know this one.

I've been on a ball like crazy trying to get the kid into position. I agree that it can't hurt!

You're not alone. I have "panic" moments daily... and then I see the birth threads and I am like, "UGH, why do I have to be due 12/31? I want this baby NOW. I want MY squish".
We are on page 2 on our announcements thread already! CRIKEY.
I'm glad there are quite a few regular posters who are due later in the month like me! We can keep each other company.
D14 November Siggy Challenge - How I Feel 3rd Tri:
N14 has an "Inside Babies" thread that they started about halfway through this month for those who had yet to deliver to check in. Maybe we should follow suit in a few weeks?
OK so this has been on my mind way too much lately and SO brought it up today too so I thought I'd ask you ladies.... Bath time. How exactly do you go about bathing a newborn? We have a little seat we will put in the tub, how do you make sure you avoid the cord, put a washcloth over it? What about rinsing their head, should they be tilted a certain way? What if she gets water in her mouth? How do you go about cleaning her girl parts? I am clearly thinking into this way too much.
The nurse showed us in the hospital with DD1. Basically sponge baths every 2-3 days until the stump falls off.
After that, however works. It sounds like you are overthinking it.
You can use a special infant bath seat in the tub or just put a towel down in the bottom of the kitchen sink for comfort. Fill the sink/tub with about an inch of warm water. Lay baby down in it. Place a warm wet wash cloth on baby's belly so she/he doesn't get cold. Then with a wet soapy wash cloth, wipe down baby head to toe. Make sure to get in the neck rolls and in the hands. Pull the plug on the sink and while the water is draining, use a plastic cup to pour clean water over baby to rinse.
Make sure you have a dry towel nearby (I like to lay one on the counter too so I can lay baby down while I dry him off). The End.
Question: I live alone and am worried I will go into labor in the middle of the night when everyone I know had their phone off or on silent. How long does it usually take before contractions come every five minutes from the time they first start? Everyone is different and every pregnancy is different, I know so I suppose there is no accurate answer to that. I'm just hoping for enough time to pass to allow me to get ahold of someone.
I'm thinking I am going to ask a friend to keep her phone on. I don't want to be an imposition but I feel like I need to ask for help on this one.
@designchica it was about 6 hours from first contraction to when I called the after hours line to page the on-call OB. I was only 5cm when I was admitted but went to 9cm within 1.5 hours.
This is probably a silly question (but that's what this safe place is for...), but can you have contractions just on one side of the belly? I'm pretty sure they're just BH contractions, but they hurt whereas all my other BH ones didn't. They also take my breath away. Just curious. **I'm not going into labor, I've just had a few random ones**
Is the contracting just on one side or does it just hurt on one side? Depending on how the baby is positioned, it can hurt as your abdomen tightens down around a knee or elbow.
Also, if you can't talk through them, they are actual contractions not BH. Keep an eye on them (just like you mentioned, you can have random "real" contractions without being in actual labor).
@designchica you are right, everyone is different. My first pregnancy I timed contractions all night before my water broke and Went to the hospital. BUT that may not be the case for you. I would ask a friend to keep their phone volume up at night just to ease your mind and just in case.
@Linden25 it is silly that they make you wait until LO is here. I'd just call the day he is born. Mine came pretty quickly so hopefully you will get it within a couple days of being home. I think some hospitals rent them, too, if need be.
Thanks @kboyet and @bvsbabymomma. The last person I talked to a BCBS said they don't check with the doctor when you call so I guess I could call and say she was born but I'm a terrible liar. Hoping it comes fast and I don't have to rent one.
That would be ins fraud. They will see the pump claim before the hospital claim and know you lied.
Call the day you deliver to order. Chances are you won't need a pump for several weeks but you can always rent for a few days or buy a $30 manual if you really to pump right away.
Hi ladies. This feels like a really dumb question but I'm a FTM and so I have no idea. I'm looking to take advantage of some cyber Monday deals and get some Christmas shopping done. I'm actually mostly done shopping for most of my family but I have nothing for my LO. He'll be one month at Christmas and I know he is not going to care at all about presents (as long as he gets the boob he'll be happy) but it's his first Christmas so I want to get him something. So, do small babies like toys? I know right now at one week I can't see him caring about anything, but what about in three weeks? Any recommendations for toys for really small babies?
DS didn't care about toys at all until he was a few months older, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to go ahead and get a few to have on hand. Some of the first toys he liked were rattles (especially soft plush ones since he'd hit himself with them a lot at first) and those dangly things you can hang from their car seat/stroller. Also, a lovey or something would be nice.
@vcl2008 Do you already have a little mirror? I remember when DD was little putting a mirror in front of her for tummy time to give her something to look at. That seems like something he might in the next couple of months. This is the one we had:
Ok, so I'm not sure if this was already discussed, but tearing... I'm terrified that I'm going to tear. Do most women tear when they give birth?
I don't know the stats but I did. I had a small perineal tear that was no big deal. I also ripped my labia on one side, that hurt and required several stitches.
I know it's been discussed but I'm on my phone so can't find the posts.
They cut me...it really wasn't that terrible. There is much more to be afraid of than that In all seriousness, the cut wasn't that horrible and supposedly tears heal faster/better than cuts.

I tore pretty bad with my first but it was because he managed to break his arm through and came out like Superman. I didn't tear at all with my second..

I tore the first time and had stitches. I didn't tear the second or third time bc my vagina must be elastic now. but seriously it's not as horrible as you think. It will be ok

Hahah Elasti-gina. For some reason, I'm cool with everything else about birth, but have an irrational fear of tearing. :-/
