GTKY : Do you like your name?

Re: GTKY : Do you like your name?

  • My name is Kim. One year in elementary school there was 5 Kim's in my class. We all went by different variations. That was the only time I disliked my name since I went by KJ in that class. I don't know many Kim's now :)

  • I like my name. Like PPs people know how to spell it but there aren't too many of us out there. In high school I mostly went by a nickname Dre or Dr. Dre, as Dre is part of my name and I wanted to be a Dr, which I now am.
I don't plan on giving my child a top ten name if we can agree on it.
  • I never liked my name growing up. It was weird, sounded either southern or old, and everyone always either spelled it wrong or pronounced it wrong. To this day I still don't like it and go by sort of a shortened version of it and even when everyone tells me it's a "lovely name" (also meaning sounds like it's for an old lady) I just politely smile and thank them but still please insist they use the nickname.

  • I never liked my name very much, in that I would not pick it. But if I was given the option to change my name now I wouldn't.

Ironically, I hated my name (Emma) growing up because I could never find it on pencils, toothbrushes, etc. Now, you can't go anywhere in public without hearing mother's calling out that name. I love it though, and I love that I had it before it became super popular so I was the only one at school with that name.
So funny, I was exactly the same growing up as an Emma... all I wanted was one of those tiny license plates with my name one it! I had an absolute hay day buying Emma stuff on our first trip to the UK where it was more common.  The name itself I didn't mind and it was nice to be the only one I knew growing up. Now I love it for its simplicity and elegance. Shame that everyone else finally caught on as well ;)
  • SS: I have an old lady name, and I used to hate it. I wouldn't say I like it now, but I'm resigned to it. It's my name. My parents had the battle of the old lady names. My mom wanted to name me Lucinda, which I actually think would ba cool name to bring back into rotation. Alas, my name is just boring, imo. But it has a number of nice nickname options...just none of those ever stuck with me.
