I had my hospital tour this morning. It is a brand new hospital and very swanky!
Good news: They actually do skin-to-skin in the operating room for c-sections. The other "baby friendly" hospitals I delivered at did not offer this so it will be a new experience for me! Yay!!
Bad news: Because they do labor, delivery, and recovery all in the same room for vaginal births, they have separate recovery rooms designated for c-section mamas. The regular vaginal birth rooms are the size of my living room (complete with crystal chandeliers) and the c-section rooms are seriously "walk-in closet" sized. The tour guide explained that they need to move a lot of equipment in and out of the vaginal delivery rooms so that is why they are so big.
The c-section rooms are so tiny that the idea of being stuck in there for a three day recovery is already making me claustrophobic. Visitors are pretty much out of the question unless they come in one at a time, and there isn't a lounge area inside the locked L&D unit to use instead. I know the size of the room won't affect the quality of care I am given but it does make me feel a little like a second class citizen.
I was induced with both girls and had GD, so I was told not to eat after midnight and when I got to the hospital, they have to keep my blood sugar stable so I get IV glucose. I honestly wasn't hungry because my body was getting a liquid diet.
If I go into labor on my own this time, it'll be a whole different ballgame. For you natural delivery STM+: are there better foods to eat than others? Should I concentrate on just normal food, try to carb load, stick to protein or veggies?
I'd say carb load with protein. I plan on eating a good protein bar before going in so I have the quick and slow energy to burn. veggies take too long with too many side effects stomach wise.
This makes sense. There's a good chance because of the GD they'll do an IV anyway, but I don't want to take any chances. This being #3, who knows how long labor will actually be.
I had an IV and was still exhausted. The glucose drip/IV may keep you from passing out but after 15hrs your muscles are crying out for fuel; my legs were shaking from the effort and I had nothing to give.
hence the protein bar this time. how the hell are they going to know I ate anyway lol
@Hufflepuff42 , I'm so sorry for your loss. I recently lost my aunt unexpectedly as well. She was killed by her husband who went insane while she was taking care of him. She was looking so forward for my mom's first grandchild. It's been a rough couple months. Hugs to you and your family
35+5 and I am having really bad back pain (mostly my tail bone) never had back pain yet durring pregnancy ..... Could this be early labor!?!?! Anyone else have tail bone pain. Just asking before I start to freak out and call my dr for no reason at all :-SS
I know I know...... I'm home alone today, my best friend is a few states away visiting her parents and the hubby is over my pregnancy anxiety, so I needed girlfriend advice.... Today, you guys are it

If it is constant pain or just when you move, my guess is that baby is just getting comfy down lower in your pelvis. However, if it becomes rhythmic or seems to come and go randomly, it could be some kind of contraction. Either way, call your doctor. It is a Friday so you are going to want to know what to do over the weekend if it gets worse.
Thanks guys! Right now it's constant and has been since about 9am my time, it's now 12 and still there.... Put a call in to the dr, just waiting for my call back
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt, @Hufflepuff42, and yours as well @Serunatu. I hope you find the strength and support you need from your families and loved ones.
My best friend at work, who is someone I met in grad school who has become a truly close friend, just gave notice today. I knew it was coming, and I'll be on maternity leave in 5 weeks anyway, but I'm sad even for the 2.5 weeks I'll be here without her. It's kind of sinking ship scenario around here and she's leaving for a great opportunity, so I'm happy for her overall. It's just a sad, gray, wintry day and it just hit me that she's not going to be here when I get back. Change is hard!

I seriously have been having the debate between a glider and a recliner for the baby's room. I am torn.
My recliner also rocks when upright. It's awesome. It reclines to a great sleeping position, it rocks silently when upright, it's plush and comfy... and it was free.
They have one at Big Lots for $285 similar to this- We bought the same one for our garage and my husband loves it.

Thanks, @misskilljoy! He is a long-time PC gamer who recently got a PS4 and has been having nightly "Destiny Dates" (as I call them) with his buddies. I know it will be harder for him to do raids with his friends reliably once the new baby arrives. A new turn-based PC strategy game is more do-able, I think, and still gives him a "gamer fix." Thank you!

It's amazing how many symptoms can come about when you are anxious. My DH has gone away for 2 nights, so of course now I'm anxious about every little pain, bit of pressure or change of any kind. Luckily, so far they all seem to be mild (going to the bathroom more often, more round ligament pain, looser stool)....just keeping my fingers crossed I can calmly get through the next two days. Anxiety sucks!
Hey guys! Dr called back and recommended a nice soak in the bath.... Wish I could say I've been in there since I last posted.... But I started on laundry and boy did that escalade quickly!! All my wash is done and neatly put away.... Still have the back pain, but after my amazing bubble bath with yummy smelling Epsom salts.... It's a little better ;;)
Me at an Alton Brown Good Eats book signing a few years ago. He's a cutie in person. The friend I was with told him about an explicit sex dream she'd had about him and he got all embarrassed. Heh.
I made his potato leek soup yesterday for dinner. It, like most of his cooking, was amazing!
I haven't made his potato leek soup, but his potato leek gratin is a holiday staple. PUSH the air out of the potato layers when you add the cream. I love that step. It's so cathartic.
@bowlwoman that is so cool you got to meet him. I pretty much love all food celebrities except for Joe Bastianich. I just don't like him.
Edit: typo
I can take Joe in small doses, but only on something like MasterChef where he's not the main attraction. Although, after this past season of MC, I'm kinda done.
My dad too. A couple of years ago he wanted to make AB's crown rack of lamb for Christmas. He DVRed the episode and went through it step by step several times. I had to buy him linen twine at William Sonoma because that's what Alton used. It was pretty funny that my dad had to make it EXACTLY like AB did.
Not a bad thing to remind your friends why you're awesome, @misskilljoy!
We have the first of our weekend intensive birthing classes today--6 hrs today, 6 tomorrow. I hope I don't have the reaction my friend did with her first--she freaked out after the first hour, left, and never looked back!
Hope you all have happy, productive Saturdays! (Note that I consider achieving goals like eat all the food as productive.)

Can I be added to Facebook group yet?? I feel like things have been slow here because everyone is "over there" and I'm way more of a facebooker then a bumper pretty please with sugar on top (but not too much because I have GD)
"When are you going to have her?" ... 'my due date is 12/12!' .. "right, but are you going to make it? or go past?" ... what? A real life conversation I just had with a grown, educated woman, who has grown children herself. She was completely serious and wanted me to tell her an answer. "you just know" she said. All I could do was laugh nervously and turn around.
You ladies have made me hungry! I want a pile of mashed potatoes and gravy with those yeast rolls that I can only find around Thanksgiving.
I hate that last month has scared away so many people. I love this board. I expect a drop when everyone starts delivering, but I really hope we can keep it together through December.
I am savoring my first authentic Starbucks peppermint mocha of this fall (decaf!). MMMMMmmmm.
Also found out that my work is throwing me a shower in 2 weeks! STM so wasn't expecting it but am SUPER excited for all the good eats and cake and people celebrating my baby with me. I have wonderful co-workers.

I have my mom's yeast roll recipe. Pain in my butt, but they are sooo good. I only make them for holidays but I might have to make a batch this week since you brought them up... You know a practice round for thanksgiving. Purely scientific.

Someone mentioned a peppermint mocha in a thread the other day, and I have been on a peppermint kick ever since! yumm

@hufflepuff42 and @serunatu, I'm very sorry for your losses. T&Ps for you and your families!
And thanks all for the extra support, change is difficult. My family is excited for this LO, she's a positive reminder change can be okay
It was a damn good rack of lamb.
