Progression at 36 weeks?

I'm 50% effaced and 2-3 cm as of Thursday. EDD is 11/30 now, and my OB scheduled another growth ultrasound in a week. I feel like a ftm but am not- is this kid of progression normal at 35.5 weeks? I feel like it is but started worrying I may not make it to his due date :)

Did you ask your doctor if this was normal progression? Did you talk to them about your concern/worry about not making the estimated due date and what type of plans/procedures they would normally perform in that situation?

  • I will be 36 weeks on monday. I am at 1cm, 80% effaced as of yesterday's OB appt. I had my first at 36 weeks, so I am sure this one will come early too.
  • I agree with @ColeyCannoli‌ that you can't get too excited with some of these numbers, because not only is every pregnancy different, but every woman is different.

As far as experiences go, I'm a FTM, but I'm learning that I can't compare myself with others, not even family members. I became 1cm dilated at 28 weeks. I'm now 34 weeks and still only 1cm dilated. 6 weeks ago, I freaked out and thought my LO was coming right away, which clearly was not the case. I didn't have to go on bedrest, but heavily increased my water intake and made some changes that helped. I spoke with my sister, who didn't start dilating until 36 weeks and she delivered a week later.

I understand wanting to hear other people's experiences. At the end of the day, speak with your doctor about your own case and see what they say. Good luck to you and keep us posted.
  • Meh, I totally understand having questions after you go home and process the appt. I get that OP isn't asking for advice, just past experiences. However, I'm a FTM so I have no experience to share lol

  • I was 1cm 80% effaced at my appointment this week- 35w4d. Baby measured 5 lbs 1 oz. My doctor said to go ahead and pack my bags because she'd likely be early as opposed to late but knowing this child she will sit there until 42 weeks. ;)

@nauticallife‌ - Yes but you are not acting upset when we tell you that each pregnancy is different and your best resource is your doctor. ;)

  • I cannot believe how harsh and unsupporting people are on this application!
  • I'm due 11/30 and had my cervix checked on Friday. I was at 1 cm and 50% effaced. Last pregnancy I stayed at a 1 cm for a couple weeks and then the last week or two went to 3 cm and 80% effaced. I still went a little past my due date.

  • I love gif parties and wish I wasn't mobile. Seriously though OP even a woman with 2+ children had different types of pregnancies for each. My scenario as a FTM is completely different and if you skipped seeking medical advice because of my scenario, that is something I would not want. So all these women gave great information and "support". Suck it up buttercup, baby will come when ready.

  • This is why I'm putting off cervical checks until I start having contractions or go to L&D. It doesn't seem to tell you anything this early other than "yup, still pregnant." My doctors don't seem to mind skipping them either. I'll reevaluate if they get more insistent about it.

  • I totally get what you're asking. It's exciting and terrifying at the same time! And I have similar questions!

My first baby, I started dilating and some preterm labor stuff at 32 weeks but made it to 38 weeks and a few days before she was born (and was 5-6 cm dilated at my 38 week appt with no labor!).

This time around, I was 1 cm dilated, 70% effaced at 33 weeks and now it's just a waiting game. Hoping she stays in there till she's healthy enough to be born fully developed!

I guess bottom line is, each of our stories are so different! Hope your story is lovely and you have a beautiful, healthy baby! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

(And I understand how someone could think some of those comments were harsh. "Why would you rely on a bunch of strangers on the internet instead of your doctor?" Seems to me, that she was just curious and was looking for other stories. She's not ignorant, of course she trusts her doctor more than us. If you don't want to give her your story/experience than don't. But also don't belittle her please.)

  • @misskilljoy‌ I just can't with all these stupid questions and WKs. It blows my mind how many people think that forums are the right place to ask medical questions. Then WKs come in and think they are better than is because they offer up stories and we are all so wrong for telling them these things would better be discussed with the person in charge of overseeing their pregnancies. All these thread should just be titled... "I'm an idiot who lacks common sense"

  • Woah geez. I'm a December 14 mom as well. Some of you need a lesson in manners. What a great example for your kids! I figured we were all allowed to give our experience. And I'm not intimidated by those of you just acting like bullies. White knight? You gotta be kidding. This isn't grade school. Grow up
  • If you want an anecdote, OP:

When my mother was pregnant with me, her second child, the pregnancy was so different from her first that she was convinced that I would be a boy because literally nothing went the same way other than the fact that she gave birth to a baby at the end.

She was so sure that I would be a boy, based on her previous anecdotal experience, that she didn't bother coming up with any girl names and had told people it would be a boy.

I'm a lady.  I'm not a very nice one sometimes, but I'm definitely a lady.

Anecdotal evidence means virtually nothing in the absence of actual science.
Lol my mom did the same thing! My sister is def not a boy. Even her nursery was painted blue and green with trains because my mom was SOOO sure she would be a he.

Bullies? Telling someone to seek medical advice from a doctor is being a bully? And where in the OP did it ask for an experience? Obviously a dose of reality from an internet stranger makes you immature.

Just because your a D14 mom means nothing. I've never seen you around here before until you decided to come in here and tell us how wrong we are. Once again who are you!?

Thanks for the bingo spot, keep going because I'm up for a good game of bingo today.

Also not kidding about the WK, that's exactly what you are. You should also look up the definition of a bully.

Nice try winning the internet today but you failed.

LOL at the club. I do not remember agreeing to be a part of a club. Do we have to have a secret handshake, cuz I don't remember learning one if we do.
