What's your favorite scary movie? - immediately I thought of "house of a 1000 corpses" that movie completely ooged me out.. But for Halloween I LOVE The Great Pumpkin
What's the spookiest thing you've ever experienced? - I grew up in the country and I had a friend that lived in an old plantation type home.. Very eerie.. So I stayed the night at her house once and woke up and saw a girl sitting at the end of the bed, I thought she said help me and then disappeared... I was younger like 9 or 10 so I thought I was dreaming and went back to sleep.. Well several years later that friend moved away and someone else moved in.. Well the family that moved in had a son my age and we used to spend hours (high school) on the phone together late into the night.. Well I knew he lived I that house but never really remembered my dream previously. So one night when we were on the phone very late he started freaking out and told me about a girl that just appeared in his room told him she needed help and to follow him.. I asked him if he was in the room to the right of the skinny stair case and he said yes (same room I was in) I proceeded to ask a ton of questions about the girl.. Same description of he girl I saw.. So weird!! He used to have encounters all over the house with different situations but I will never forget how chilled I was as he described the girl to me.. I guess I was not dreaming!
@Ashris13 - OH my gosh! Ghost children are the freaking creepiest. This past spring, my BIL was telling us about how he saw our niece was standing in the hallway one night and so he thought it would be funny to try to scare her. He waited ducked around the corner to grab her and she wasn't there. He went to her room and she was sound asleep in her bed. Scared the crap out of him. I'm so not staying at their house anytime soon.
Still trying to think of my scariest memory (obviously I started this thread to live vicariously through everyone else)...
The only thing I can think of isn't a memory of mine, but my mom's. We lived in a big, old rental house when I was a baby and I would often interact with something in my room. My mom would come in in the middle of the night and I'd be pointing at a wall laughing and babbling. That in itself would probably freak anyone out, but add to it the fact that there had been an accident in the house decades ago where a little girl was accidentally shot and killed, well, my mom was eager to find a new home.
And my favorite horror movie (s)... Totally Evil Dead series. Ash is my hero.

Favorite scary movie: I LOVE the movie Identity. A lot of people have not seen it, but is probably my fave. Spookiest thing I have experienced: it actually happened last month. On the anniversary of my mil death ds woke up in the middle of the night crying pointing at the corner of the room where there was nothing. I have told a couple of people about it and they all ask me if it were her why her would be crying and the only thing I can think of iis that he was in his crib and "she" didn't get him out. He has sttn since he was 6 weeks old and has never done this before and now he is having bad dreams at night since then.
What's your favorite scary movie? I kind of like them all as long as there isn't some sort of religous aspect to them. Movies like Scream, The Ring, Saw... love them all!!
What's the spookiest thing you've ever experienced? When I was little we would play Bloody Mary and I saw the mirror turn bloody and the light flickered. I also saw someone levitate when we played "light as a feather stiff as a board"
What's your favorite scary movie? Ooh, let's see. I don't know! My husband and I are doing 31 Days of Horror - we've watched a different horror movie every night this month. It's been way fun (though some of the movies have been just awful). I'm a fan of the original Nightmare on Elm Street, love the 28 Days/Weeks Later movies. Paranormal Activity (mostly because of how much it freaks out my husband). Of the films we watched this month, I would say I really, really like The Conjuring. I heart Lorraine Warren.
What's the spookiest thing you've ever experienced?
Ok. So, my husband used to work as a driver for a real estate company. He would drive around to properties that were foreclosed to take pictures, his company would decide if they wanted to buy it to fix up and resell. As part of the job, there was a perk of having the opportunity to host open houses on the weekend - just go sit in an empty house and hand out fliers when people came in. It was fun, I got to write/knit/hang out while DS2 was a baby, and I would get paid $50 to sit there for four hours, and get to see loads of different cool houses.
Then there was this house in Napa.
Just a small little place, in an older neighborhood - not fancy, but not totally run down either. The layout was a little odd. You walk in the front door and you're in a long, narrowish living room. Straight across was an archway to the kitchen, the left and right walls each had two doors leading to bedrooms and the bathroom. And for some reason, the moment I walked in I had the heebie jeebies (I had been doing this job every weekend for six/seven months at this point, and had never had that feeling before.
Exploring further, I found the backyard that had a cute little rose garden, and then the detached garage. Behind the garage there was another room built in, with its own door and its own key. No windows, just a vent in the ceiling. Kind of creepy.
Anyway. Charlie and I passed the day together with that strange feeling, that sense of seeing something out of the corner of your eye, and went home. The next day, Sunday, we went back.... and found every single cabinet door in the kitchen standing open, and every closet door as well, when I had left everything closed. "Okay. Some inept realtor gave a walkthrough and left everything open?" I thought to myself. Seems... unlikely, but uneasily I closed everything up again and set up shop.
My husband and older son ended up coming to hang out too. I didn't ask them to, but I think my fella could tell I was a little uncomfortable. Fella felt the heebie jeebies too, but we just laughed about it. Then... James, who was three at the time, started joking that it was /his/ house. "This my house!" Haha, it's yours huh? "Yes, my house!" Okay, it's your house. "It's mine. Get out." What? "Get out of my house! It's my house!" ... James? "Get. Out. Of. My. House."
Two minutes later he was laughing and playing normally.
The husband and I were eyeing each other. Normal three-year-old grumpy weirdness, or creeptacular spiritual activity? Fortunately it was getting close to time to go. We waited out the last half hour and then I went around to turn off lights and lock everything up. Made sure all the cabinets were closed, haha. Then I went to the backyard to lockup the garage and that creepy back room. Locked the garage. I opened the door to the back room just to check that the lights were off, and while leaning into the room I heard a low, but distinct growling noise... right in my ear. I suddenly felt hot all over and I swear I felt something grab my right arm, the arm holding the door open.
I closed the door rather firmly and locked it, and stiff-leggedly speed walked back through the house muttering "Time to go, time to go."
Fella and James left in their car, I held on to Charlie and locked the front door, and it wasn't until I got into my car that I saw that I was bleeding. There were three distinct scratches on my forearm, one of them quite deep.
Not really into scary movies... I used to watch them when I was young, but don't enjoy them at all anymore.
As for spooky stuff... I lived in THREE houses that had weird crap happening. The first I don't remember (my parents have crazy stories.) But the second two were places I lived in. One wasn't too bad... but the other was freaking sinister.
but if a person were to ask if I believed in ghosts, I would say no. (Then would feel like a liar as I have all of these stupid stories to tell...)
I don't really have a favorite scary movie since I'm a wimp and refuse to watch most lol. But I LOVE Halloween.
The house I grew up in definitely had some weird things going on. I always had the "someone is watching me" feeling when there by myself.
When I was around 13 or so my bff was staying over and we were up at 3/4am with usual sleepover shenanigans. We went down to the kitchen for some soda and ice and my tiny shih tzu followed us. Our kitchen led into the dinning room which was pitch black at night and the fridge was right next to it. There was a little doggie fence up so our dogs wouldn't go in there and when the dog got next to the empty dark room she started barking furiously and wouldn't stop. My bff and I grabbed the dog and ran upstairs.
Much later after I had met and was with DH he was staying at my house and wasn't able to sleep and was downstairs at 3am. You could see straight through the kitchen to the dinning room from the last spot on the sectional in the old house (the same dinning room that my dog was barking at). DH swears to this day that he saw out of the corner of his eye someone watching him from the dining room and when he described the person he described my grandma that had passed.
One more creepy thing DH and I were leaving the house at night it was fall so it was already dark out and a shadow "walked" away from us towards the end of the driveway. We were the only ones outside. I went straight back towards the house but DH thought it was just a fluke and kept going towards the car. He saw the shadow move the other way towards him, we ran.
Totally creeped out by some of these stories. Fun thread idea!
Favorite scary movie - The Shining or "It". "It" is probably a stupid choice, but I hate clowns, so he freaks me out!
Spookiest thing to happen to you - I've had a few creepy Ouija board experiences. It has been awhile & I can't remember exacts ATM, but I do remember the Ouija relaying some pretty weird stuff. I'm convinced there's something behind those things...
@MrsC430 - Clowns freak me out, too. For some reason It doesn't bother me because I know he's an evil clown. As long as I know the clown is evil, then I'm less afraid of it. Now, people really dressed up like clowns...yeah. I don't trust 'em.

@absolutelymaybe LOL I hear ya! Any type of clown can stay away from me. Guess it's safe to say we won't be in a rush to bring our twins to the circus?
I don't know if I could pick a favorite scary movie because I tend to like ones that are so bad it's funny.
As for spooky stories I am pretty sure I saw a ghost one time! We used to live in an old house that would frequently sound like someone was waking around upstairs even when there was no one up there... Something I always attributed to our cat. Well, one night as I was falling asleep I SWEAR I heard a woman whisper my name and felt breath on the back of my neck. I turned around and saw a woman standing next to my bed but as soon as I really looked at her she was gone. I chalked it up to a lucid dream and went to sleep.
A few years later my mom was moving out of the house and contacted the family of a Dr Bunker, whose medical diplomas had been left in our attic. When the woman met my mom to pick them up they were chatting about the house and the woman asked "Did anyone see Dr Bunker's wife? They think she haunts that house!". My mom laughed it off and didn't think anything of it.
That night I was taking to her and she told me what the woman had asked. I guess I went kinda pale because she asked me what was wrong! Haha. I told her "Um, I think I saw Mrs Bunker..." and told her about the woman I had seen a few years back. She was so freaked out that I think she was EXTRA glad to be moving!
When I was a kid I was deathly afraid if chucky lol. My neighbours had a chucky doll suction cupped to their window and my mom had to go ask them to take it down because apparently I was afraid to go outside lol.
I've never had creepy stuff happen to me, but reading this creeps me out...plus it's about kids, so perfect for the bump haha
I'm guessing I should have waited until DH got home from the gym and the dogs weren't randomly barking at every thing in sight before reading these. Right?

i can't read any of these creepy stories. thread title reminds me of my favorite halloween song, Werewolf Bar Mitzvah (spooky, scary--boys becoming men, men becoming wolves)
I am so scared of scary movies!! I never watch them.
There is a haunted tree supposedly on the campus of Michigan State, where my sister went to college. I went to visit her one weekend and we went to visit the tree after we'd had a few drinks. I made a big speech about how the haunted tree was a hoax and then walked up to it and touched it to demonstrate how not afraid I was of it. Well, I woke up the next morning with killer poison ivy! Guess that'll teach me to ridicule the supernatural!
