I just found out that my FIL wants our baby to call him "Pop Pop". My sister's FIL wanted to be called "Grandfellow" (that didn't happen). I've heard Me-maw, Maw-Maw, Mee-Mee, Pee-Paw, Paw-Paw, and all other sorts of stuff. I'm thinking, well, how would you feel later on in life telling someone when you're 40 how much you loved your Pop Pop. What happened to Grandma and Grandpa?
What do you guys think? What have your parents/in-laws requested so far?
Re: Grandparent names - cute or annoying?
FIL was adamant that they only be called Grandma and Grandpa but DD started calling in Poppy so he got all mushy over it and it stuck. MIL is Grandma.

My MIL wanted to be called Momma Carri, well my nephew calls her Carri Grandma. DS doesn't really call her anything yet. And my FIL is PawPaw by our nephew but DH doesn't like it so he's been coaching DS to say Grandpa.
My nephew also calls me Kelly Mommy. And my SIL Britt Mommy
My grandparents were Grandma (Mom's mom) and Nanny and Papa (Dad's parents). Dad wants to be Papa, and Mom does NOT want to be Grandma or Nanny, which is fine, but she doesn't want to be anything else, either. I've suggested Granny - that's what DH called two of his grandmothers (one was a "great"), and she seems to be warming to that one.
DH's dad texted one day a couple months ago saying he wanted to be Pops, and now that's how he signs his cards.

They're fairly normal compared to some of the other nicknames in my family..we've got some bizarre ones.
My ILs are grandma and grandpa. However, due to some speech delays, right now they are grama and bapa. It's coming, though. :-)
As I got older, I started calling my only living grandmother "Gram".
My ILs go by MomMom and PopPop HOWEVER (and my husband fights this) they all pronounce it MumMum and PupPup, so that's what I call them.
My mom decided to go by Mem. I have no idea where she got this from, but she said she felt like Grandmom, Nanny or any of those variations didn't fit her. So she's Mem. My dad goes by Pop. I think he was going for Grandpop, but my eldest niece could only say Pop, and it stuck. It suits him.
For great grandmothers, my Grandmother was GiGi, but my husbands grandmother goes by BaBa. I think it's the Ukrainian word for grandmother.
