Oh my little parasite

edited October 2014 in December 2014 Moms
I showed my OB my skin issues today during my appt...basically the skin on my belly is getting slightly hard and flaking off (sexy, I know). I slather myself in body oils and stretch mark cream twice a day and it's still flaking off and looks like snake skin.

Luckily no stretch marks yet (that's coming in the next 7 weeks, I'm sure) but this flaking is nasty but it oddly doesn't itch at all. It also wraps around to my back. I buff it off in the shower only I have it come back in a day or two.

OB said the creams I'm using aren't helping because my little parasite is likely taking all of the oils/fats out of me for his own development and she suggested that I start taking fish oils and eating more avocado to try to boost it internally. Totally random post but I'm surprised by how parasitic this little 5 lb baby is. Pregnancy is weird, yo. Anyone else surprised by anything their baby does lately?

Re: Oh my little parasite

  • For about 5 seconds, I thought we were actually talking about a skin parasite and not a baby. *shudders*

I'm a first time mom and inherently clueless about what my body is doing. I was very surprised to learn at the doctor's Monday that baby Appleseed was laying up under my ribs whilst kicking me in the nether regions. I just stared at my body, like "Oh Jesus, this thing is way bigger than I thought." The Bump's "How Big is Baby" tells me how big this thing is, but it took actually seeing it for that reality to fully dawn on me.

Lame surprise is lame. Forgive my cluelessness.

  • Try coconut oil. Rub it your bump as well as take a teaspoon or two daily. Its amazing.
  • I had some what the same thing. Flaky skin that runs vertical up from my belly button. It was also on a small patch on my left fore arm. Like yours, it didn't itch and I could scrape it off during a shower ( ew I know).

Staying hydrated, lathering up right out of the shower and laying off cruddy food seems to have helped clear up most of my skin issues.

  • I have to take an extra vitamin b supplement. Little Chalupa hoards it and my tongue starts to shed if I don't. Also very sexy.

  • I wonder if maybe you're reacting to one of lotions you're using?  Maybe back off of all of them and start fresh with one new one (like coconut oil, as many people have suggested).  I've also found that creams or ointments are better for really flaky skin than lotions and oils.  This sounds super fun, BTW.  Thanks for not posting a pic.

  • @3girlsnthepup‌ haha I couldn't tell initially if you meant I should eat the oatmeal plus coconut oil or rub it on myself. I assume you mean to eat it. I've gone more and more dense lately as this pregnancy continues, baby is apparently taking my brain cells too :)
