Trying to Get Pregnant

NTTGPR: I'm a coward. Please help.

I need to quit my job today.

I work nights and it's been slowly killing me for a while. I'm always stressed, exhausted and just feel miserable.

On top of that, I'm in school and my current job doesn't offer much flexibility. Another opportunity came around for a daytime job that would allow for much greater flexibility. I'm going to lose my night differential but that's fine.

I've never quit a job before and the anxiety right now is vomit-inducing.

Please tell me I'm being a p-bag and do the damn thing. I need a pep talk!

How long have you been working there?  I think the pp's gave you good advice, but I'm curious.
  • The PPs gave you great advice. You can do this! Good luck.

I'm in resignation limbo right now.

To clarify, yes, I have another job lined up already that I've accepted. I'm giving 3 weeks notice.

I've had this job for 3.5 years, a majority of my nursing career.

Thanks for the support! I'm awaiting a call back from my supervisor. I work in the field and don't ever really see my boss. I was going to submit a formal letter after speaking with her...but if I don't hear back by end of business should I send it and discuss Monday morning?

    Edited to clarify.

Does she have an office that you can physically go to?  Handing it to her in person is generally better than mailing it in.  If leave her a voicemail with a "heads up" and are able to come in to her place of work Monday, then I don't see the harm in lumping the delivery and discussion together.

  • I would definitely try to give it to her in person. Makes a better impression, but not sure if that'd be possible for you as I don't know the specific situation.

  • Just do it, lady! Write out a formal two-week notice, and hand it in in-person. I know how nerve-wracking it can be. But if you really hate it, you will feel SUCH relief afterwards!
  • @LongLiveTheEvilQueen‌ - no, no, it's good advice!

I'm in pedi home health. Going to the office isn't really a thing that's done at my company. Also, I'm not quitting the company, just the specific case I'm on, further adding to the weird dynamic. I hope to stay on per diem as a fill-in when I can (like school breaks).

These were all very helpful words of wisdom so I very much appreciate them!

@riderchik‌ - Awww! I hope you have lots of wine tonight!

  • Quitting a unit is the worst because I always feel like I'm letting down my team... But of the four jobs I've had since graduating, I only left one because of personal reasons (there was some crazy shit going on there and I was worried about getting dragged in and losing my license by association), and every 2 week notice I handed in sucked. I'm pretty sure I cried every time, too. Even the crazy ass unit. You can do it! ASAP so you save yourself the mind games!
  • Thanks, ladies!

  • I second PPs. It's SO tough but it's unbelievable how good you'll feel after quitting. Good luck!!
Married to DH (aka the love of my life) since June 17th, 2006

  • @Wine&Cupcakes‌ how did it end up going??
  • @almachs0786‌ - well, we played phone tag and I left the last message. She didn't call me back. I didn't tell her what was going on in my message (obvi) but that if she could call me back as soon as she got it, that would be great.

So....I'm anticipating that this will become a Monday morning conversation.

  • At least you have the weekend to drink lots of wine! ;) Since your staying within the company I'm betting it will be much easier than you think, it's just a hard thing to build up to. Good luck on Monday!
