  • I feel like with either of these names people would just end up calling her Bella, anyway.

  • I vote neither. I like Bella or Beatrice, the Harry Potter reference is too much for me too. I love me some Helena Bonham Carter but she creeps me out in that role and I couldn't see a little girl named that.

  • No. Just no. But hey, your child. Name them whatever you'd like.
  • I would do Beatrice or Beatrix. Bellatrix will continue to be too closely associated with HP for at least the next 20 years.

  • Your question is about spelling of these names. Are you pronouncing them the same way then? I don't see them as the same name.

  • This strikes me as an awkward way to use the nn Bella for your daughter. Surely there are better ways.

  • Are you serious? These cant be real names! I am not voting!
  • Not a huge fan of Bellatrice. Bellatrix definitely brings strong HP associations, and I don't know if I'd saddle my kid with that.

I love the suggestion of Beatrice, but I'm a huge fangirl or Dante Alighieri so there's that.

It looks like you may be really aiming for a nn of Bella. There are a lot of other options if this is your angle.
  • Im sorry I cant vote due to name association. That woman from harry potter was an evil witch

  • Beatrix or Beatrice are the closest names I know of to those. Also the two you have up there would be pronounced differently. Loved the HP books but not sure I would want to name my daughter after such a dark character.

  • Yea...no, please don't name your child either of these. I think Bella is a very very pretty name but just not this!

Beatrix is a nice name that is a bit different if you don't like Beatrice.

ETA: oops, I should read before posting...this has been suggested!
  • I voted for the one that didn't end in X, but I would have preferred a "neither" option. Good luck either way.

Wow. She has been reading the responses (not all of them but has been back). She offered some support in the "heart issues" thread and posted in one of the stickies.

M15 is really looking hard for someone to snipe today, huh? Maybe she'll come back and respond and be nice. Maybe she'll be crazy. Maybe she'll never come back. But she's not given any indication she's a troll. And for the last time, Bellatrix is a real name. So no, she didn't post two joke names just to make you all annoyed. Bellatrice, now that's another story entirely.

I get that we're a snarky bunch, but this is reaching.
OT but how are you able to see that she has seen some responses but not others?

  • Also neither for reasons stated above.

I guess the names in the poll with the NN Bella would get OP's DD named into both the HP and Twilight fandom realms though.

All the more reason for NO, just NO. ( And I love both series)

Andplusalso, Beatrice is from Divergent. (Although she goes by Tris...) Regardless, I predict a spike in little girls named Beatrice or Tris. But it doesn't have as much association as Bellatrix does to HP.

  • Hey, no fair copying my name idea!  I was the one to think of super-villains first :P

  • I voted Bellatrix because, well, I love all things harry potter, evil character or not. :D
I wouldn't actually name my child either but if it's between those two, I choose the Harry Potter route!

  • I vote for Beatrice.
  • Wow, I'm not sure I can adequately express how completely shocked I was by the overwhelming rudeness I have received in response to this. Holy cow ladies. Do you realize there's an actual really real person on the other end of your comments? I doubt you'd like to hear that your precious Mackenzy, Hannah, Haley, Kaylee, Kailee, or Riley are terrible or horrible. Why say such awful things? Yes I'm real, no this isn't fake, no I'm not a troll, or a witch (we're Litheran actually), and no I'm not a horrible person.

    1) There is no periodic table of names. All names are made up. They just are. 2) DHs grandmother is currently named Beatrice and we were looking for something like that but not that. Hence no Beatrice. 3) DH has been in love with the name Bellatrix for years - he just thought it was pretty. We've been TTC for about 6 years now (omg) and this name has been our constant, that which kept us sane through all the treatments, loss, and disappointment. Now that we're finally pregnant, and it's a girl! I was thinking I wanted a softer ending and I recently came up with Bellatrice <-yes I know it's not Olive, Sophia, or Emma and not on your list, but that's ok! No one will make you name your kid that and you definitely are not required to attend our fabulous tea parties.

Thank you very much to those who did help vote. Very much appreciated. Just having a hard time deciding on the "ix" or "eese" sound at the end. Middle name is Louise btw. So Bellatrix Louise or Bellatrice Louise.
  • OP will come back and thank those who were helpful and bash everyone else who gave honest opinions. Then she will go on about how this site is for support and we are all pregnant women, how could we be so hateful during this time of our lives? She feels sorry for our unborn children and partners.

I'm sorry I didn't do the bashing everyone or wishing ill part you wanted and I hope that didn't mess up your "thing". I don't know anybody on this site or their life or business so to me that would seem a weird thing to do. I've never really posted in forums like this before and for some weird reason expected support or at least basic human kindness. But now I know better. So thank you for schooling me. My husband told me this is how these things forums are (kinda like you said). But holy cow, what if they didn't have to be? What if people could just support each other? Could you even imagine?

  • I voted for the one that didn't end in X, but I would have preferred a "neither" option. Good luck either way.

To the baby, you mean, right?

    ((((((((((((see what I did there?! ;) ))))))))))))))))))

I'm wondering what you meant by this? Just curious.
  • I guess I didn't know there was like a check in room? I just thought people posted random stuff. Maybe there should be rules posted or something?

I already apologized to you. Now you're just being defensive. Calm down.

I had intention of that. I didn't see you had replied when I posted this. I was just trying to understand. Still not understanding why everyone is so angry and snappy in here.
  • I still don't understand why people feel the need to ask random strangers to help name their child?

Especially when they already have their mind made up as to what name to use.

I don't have my mind made up. That's why I was asking for help. I (apparently foolishly) thought people would want to help and vote.

But I totally get that this is not that sort of place now. Loud and clear.
  • There's also a baby name board if you want more/other feedback. It's listed under "Specialty" forums. Fair Warning: those ladies don't generally take kindly to made up names.

You mean something like this, stickied at the top of the forum for your convenience?

    ETA:  Ninja'd!

I did read it, it doesn't say anything about needing to introduce yourself or your story. Or that I needed to be invited in or something? Still not sure where it says that? Maybe if this is a private group it shouldn't be so easy for someone like me to wander in.

Seriously though it will be okay. I wasn't ugly towards you at all, I made a post on jest of how 1st time posters typically react to these posts of theirs. If you took any time to even read a couple of posts you would see we are sarcastic, spunky, but very helpful and supportive group.

It's cool though. Hope the poll helps you name your child!
I guess I just don't understand the point of all the negativity. Does it help you guys with something? Does it make something better? I don't, I guess it's just not my thing.

  • OP, what negativity are you talking about? You posted asking for opinions on two names. Well you asked for opinions and you got it - unfortunately not how you wanted. No one was mean or rude to you, the fact that most of us don't like EITHER name is honest and not spiteful. You can't get butthurt because you didn't like the answer to your question, or because people discussed why they didn't like said names. If you think this is mean then you really aren't going to like the internet.
