Re: GTKY: Siblings
2) I am the oldest at age 27
3) I used to get along with my 24yo brother great but his addiction problems have hindered that recently. We are starting to build our relationship back up though. My 13yo brother is "a cool kid" so he tries not to act like he loves me to death, even though he does. We have a great relationship. He's like my brother-child.
4) I think my birth order played a huge role in who I am today. I'm a perfectionist, rule follower and always try to please others.
5) When I was 5 years old I convinced my brother to let me cut his hair. The day before family pictures. I got in SO much trouble and remember being punished but for some reason I remember how much fun my brother and I had while we were cutting his hair, it all seemed worth it.
1) How many siblings do you have? One older sister, 14 months older than me
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? i am youngest
3) Do you get along with your siblings? being so close in age we definitely can bicker, but overall we are close and like to do things together
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Yes, she is more the high strung oldest child perfectionist type, there are also definately some jealously/resentment issues that come into play since there are clear "favorites" in our immediate family (i.e. I am much closer with my Mom and she is much closer with my Dad, my parents are divorced)
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. I love this story, it is the only time there was any sort of "physical punishment" in our house, sort of messed up story but kinda funny. I was about 7 or 8 so my sister was 9, we were in her room (me, her and my Mom) cleaning her fishtank and my mom and sister were fighting about it, I remember my Mom being in a really bad mood. My sister said something really smart to my mom, and my Mom slapped her right across the face! There was about 5 seconds of stunned silence, since we were not a "spanking" household, and then my sister promptly slapped her right back. I remember my Mom slowly getting up and walking out of the room, and it was never mentioned again (until we got old enough to joke about it).
1) How many siblings do you have? One sister
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? I'm the younger/youngest
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? Yes! Well since high school anyway. Her leaving for college did wonders for our relationship. Nothing serious, just 2 hormonal high school girls living in the same house was not a party.
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Yes. We are classic big sister little sister pairs. She is very type A, very responsible. I'm much more easy going.
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. She was always smarter then me...she still is but her being 2 years older meant she could manipulate me really easily. One day when we were about 5 and 7 we spent a glorious afternoon taking apart all of MY stuffed animals (that they were all mine I didn't realize until later) we were in our room and would cut a tiny hole in some extremity then slowly take out all their stuffing through their heads or foot or something. I dont know why this was so fun...probably because we knew we were being bad. My mom kept calling up because we were so quiet and not fighting but she never actually came up to check on us. We hid all the evidence for years in our toy chest and this old her way later.
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? Youngest
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? Yes we get along surprisingly well
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Yes and no we are so spread out age wise I think some of the effects of birth order are not there but my sister was definitely an assistant mom to me. I was also raised fairly differently than her since my parents were in such a different stage in life.
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child.
My siblings sat me down when I was about 5 or 6 and told me Santa Claus was not real but I had to act like I believed in him otherwise we wouldn't get any presents haha.
Fred Rogers
2. I'm the oldest by 2 1/2 years
3. She is my best friend! We fought as sisters do as teenagers but she's amazing.
4. I think birth order played a part but my parents did a really good job of letting us be us and recognizing we were different kids.
5. When we would get in trouble we were sent to our rooms right next door to one another. We realized that we could talk through the vents and hear each other. Wasn't so bad to be punished after that realization!
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? Oldest
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? I get along w all my siblings but they are all substantially younger than me. The closest sister to my age is 4 years younger but my 4 youngest siblings are all under 15.
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Definitely, my mom made some really poor choices when I was young so I was raising my siblings at the age of 11. That's probably part of the reason I am such a maternal spirit.
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. I think it would be raising my baby sister, there are 3 younger than her but I always felt super close to her. Maybe that's why she still comes to me with her problems.
***July Siggy Challenge***
Favorite Summer Time Treat: "Anything Poolside!"
1) How many siblings do you have? I have 9... 5 biological and 4 bonus (I don't enjoy the "step" word but 4 "step siblings"). We range in age from 34 to 4 years old.
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? I am the oldest of my biological but have two older bonus sisters that came in when I was 16. I never lived with either so they are more like cousins I guess.
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? I get along with most of them. The oldest is an idiot and doesn't make good choices in her life. I think she is trying to improve but because of the pain in the ass she has been for the last 16 years I don't talk to her much. We are pleasant at family gatherings but that's all. I also have an 18 year old brother that I struggle to connect with. He is just awkward and says inappropriate things and we always said he would grow out of it and he hasn't. All the rest I couldn't live without!!
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Absolutely. I'm the oldest and the mama hen. Most responsible by far, always looked to for advice, etc.
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child.
I was an only child until I was almost 9 and then I got two babies, one at dads house and one at moms house. I was so excited about finally being a big sister. My poor brother was born in March but I didn't care. I pushed him around the house in his stroller while he screamed his head off. I also dressed him up like a girl. Now we are BFF's so I guess I didn't damage him too much.
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? Right smack in the middle at #5.
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? For the most part we get along, especially now that we're older. I'm pretty close with my 3 younger sisters.
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Probably. I looove being sneaky/flying under the radar. I'm also a very literal person and a rule-follower, but that's probably more from how strict my parents were when we were little.
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. My little brother and I were always getting into shenanigans. We crashed a car when we were 5 and 3 and a half. My mom hates this story because she thinks it makes her look like a "bad mom" (she wasn't, we were just being bad kids). She was upstairs with our baby sister right before a trip to the zoo. My brother and I went out to the car to wait and obviously started pushing buttons and pulling on things in the car. Welp, the car was parked on a hill and one of us must have yanked on the e-brake or something because the car rolled backwards down the hill and crashed into a tree. Which is a good thing, because otherwise we would have rolled right into a creek. Needless to say, we did not go to the zoo that day. Also, I think it was the first/only time "wait until your dad gets home" was used on us, and it was the longest day ever. (No, we didn't get spanked, but we should have). <--- This is probably not my "favorite" story, but it's an early one I remember really well and kind of captures my relationship with my brother.
January siggy challenge: Tying my own damn shoes again.
2) I am the oldest of 3.
3) We are all super close, even though we are far apart in age and miles. My sister is 18 and still living at home while in college. My brother is 24 and lives downtown Vancouver with his girlfriend and is currently going back to school for a journalism major.
4) Definitely. Little sis is the youngest and my parents let her get away with a lot! Also, she dealt with a lot from my brother and I and it has made her such a strong, self confident young lady. She never let bullying or mean girls get to her in school. And my brother is a total hippie child, such a free spirit. That probably has something to do with middle child weirdness??
5) Summers spent on my parent's boat really made us all super close. I honestly had a pretty idyllic childhood. Lots of summers spent hiking, swimming, playing cards and endless hours playing Pokemon on the Game Boy. (we would watch each other play LOL)
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other?
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did?
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today?
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child.
1) How many siblings do you have? three (one from the adoptive famiy I grew up with and two half-sibs from my birth mom)
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? I'm the youngest of two in the family I grew up in and the older-er one with my birth sibs. The second "er" is because my sis was always the older sister until I reunified with them.
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? Mainly yes...I wouldn't want to be without them!
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Somewhat, but at the same time I really see more of our personal preferences coming through.
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. I didn't meet my bio sibs until I was 32...they always knew about me, but I had no idea they existed. It was amazing to meet them and see our similarities...nature v. nurture at its best. My sister and I were wearing the same jeans, had the same purse...it was freaky and amazing!
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? I am the oldest, by 1 year and 11 months
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? We get along wonderfully now, but it wasn't always that way. Being so close in age and so drastically different in personality made the teenage years pretty rough. But we are very close now!
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? I am the most classic, stereotypical oldest child you'll ever meet! Totally type A, like to be in charge, more responsible. etc. My sister is a youngest for the most part, but she's not as "classic" as I am. She's very unique, in a good way!
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. My sister and I shared a room for a while when I was like 8-10. We had bunk beds and my sister was SUCH a chatterbox. She would keep me awake at night just talking and talking about all sorts of things. Sometimes it would annoy me, but now I think of it fondly.
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? I'm the older.
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? We didn't get along all through high school, but it seemed as if once high school was over and we did a better job of being ourselves instead of fitting into cliques, we are very close. We have traveled together a LOT and are extremely close now.
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Sorta. I think we were very typical older/younger siblings when we were growing up, but we are quite different today. Growing up, she was the rebel, the smoker (at 14), the one always in trouble, but the one that got ALL the attention. I was independent, took care of things how I saw fit, and didn't get as much attention. Now, she still gets more attention, but she's more of the take charge do it all and I sit back a bit.....
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. We were buying a new 1992 Ford Explorer. I was 13 and she was 9. We were waiting at the dealership and there was only one chair. I was sitting in it, but had gotten up to go to the bathroom. I guess I didn't call "same spot", because when I returned, she was in my seat. SO I BIT HER. She moved.
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? I'm the baby!
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? Yes I get along with both of them now, though I'm closer to my middle sister than my older sister and I always have been. My oldest and middle sister always were BFF's and I was kind of the odd one out but the 3 of us are closer as adults than we ever were as children.
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today?
Yes, I think we fall into our birth order personalities pretty stereotypically. My oldest sister was breaking the mold when she was a adolescent/teenager but rebelling a ton but now that she's older she is most definitely momma-hen. My middle sister has always been a smartass (in the best way possible).
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child.
I don't know if this should really count as a "favorite" moment but it's definitely my most memorable! When I was maybe 5 my middle sister and I were on the swings and she fell off face first and ended up breaking both of her arms. I went to the hospital with her and my dad and remember sobbing and refusing to open my eyes because I thought the doctors killed her. Dad brought us both to get as much ice cream as we wanted afterwards
F15 Siggy Challenge: What You're Looking Forward to Most After Baby Arrives: BELLY SLEEPING!
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. To go with the twinness. My sis and I were always together as kids - we weren't joined at the hip or anything but we tended to play the same sports, be in the same clubs, and have the same group of friends. When I got to college (we went to different schools) it was pointed out to me in an embarrassing way that I kept saying 'we' everything - like 'we are going here..' or 'we are doing this at this time...' when I really meant 'I'. I was no longer a 'we'
1) How many siblings do you have? 5 siblings, My brothers are 28, 23 and 9 and my sisters are 19 and 11.
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? I'm the second child (I'm 27 and if you can't tell my mom liked having kids in pairs)
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? I'd need to see a definition of "get along". My siblings and I all have a really weird relationship where we never say what we mean and show love by giving each other a hard time and being jerks. It's not healthy or good but it works for us.
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? According to classic birth order theory I exhibit the signs of being both the first and second born as I am very nurturing towards my younger siblings and at the same time fiercely competitive in all aspects of life (which is what has helped me over come my deep fear of failure and excel in areas that i didn't know I was capable of).
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. When I was 12 my sister was 4 and she would follow me everywhere and do everything I did so everyday when I got home from school I would make "homework" for her so that I could do my homework while she sat next to me doing hers. Usually I would write numbers and letters with dotted lines for her to trace or copy and I started to spell out her name for her. One day on the way to my grandmas house after school she asked me for a pen and paper. She sat in the back seat very quietly for quite a while before poking a piece of paper at me in the front seat. I looked at it and she had written her name for the very first time. My mom was so surprised that she almost wrecked and I always felt really good about helping her to learn to write her name. It was very special to me that I could take part in a big event for her.
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? I am the youngest.
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? Over the years I've tried, Lord have I tried, but ultimately at this point in time - no. We almost kinda had a friendship for a year my senior year in college; but, then he moved into an apartment alone and got weird.
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? No. As I said, my brother is 32 going on 9. I swear last time I saw him he threw a tantrum more epic than my DS. To the point of he woke my mother up after surgery to get her to do what he wanted. Unfortunately, his tantrums work and he gets what he wants from my mother so..... *sigh*
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. The only stories I'm coming up with are negative that involve my brother. Like the time when he was 10 he asked my parents if "that was it" after opening his present Christmas morning (knowing full well there was no Santa). Or the time when I was 12 he threw china off the wall at my head for not wanting to go to the mall... Yeah.
1) How many siblings do you have? Zero
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? One and only
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? Growing up I always wished for siblings to play with. Then I was good being an older child for a while. Now as an adult I do wish I had a sibling, just to have someone else to help me with my parents as they get older. I have DH thankfully, but it's not the same.
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? n/a
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. My BFF as a kid was also my next door neighbor. We would spend all the time together. It's too early to remember a story at this time, but I know we were always getting in trouble and always fighting.
DS - Born 6/17/12
DS#2 - Due 2/11/15
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? I'm the oldest
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? Yes, we all get along really well as adults. I'm closer with one than the other, but we're still all pretty close
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Definitely. Being the oldest, I was naturally expected to be the mature, responsible one. Still expected of me today, particularly by my parents. My youngest brother was expected to be the goof-off, and unfortunately I think that people are still a tiny bit surprised when they see that he's got his life totally together, is happily married with a great job, etc.
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. The one that springs to mind is Christmas morning. Every year my grandma would come over to open gifts with us, so we had to wait until she got to our house to come out to the living room and see the tree. The three of us used to sit in the hallway waiting for my dad to come get us and speculate about what Santa brought, talk about what we were giving our parents, the excitement of Christmas finally being there, etc.
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? I'm the middle! We're each about 2 years apart.
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? Yup, they're great. We have a the same sense of humor and have some hilarious group text discussions.
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Absolutely I do. My older brother was a wild child and it took him a loooong time to find his path. My little brother was always "the baby" and only recently has started acting like a legit adult who doesn't make me roll my eyes. I am and always will be the peacemaker "good one."
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. Aww I have so many good memories, we used to hike and camp a lot and I have great memories of those summers--one time we were using a rope swing and couldn't pull my older brother back in so he went into the drink fully clothed!! He was not happy.
1) How many siblings do you have? 2 + 3 half brothers + 4 step brothers + 1 step sister
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? Technically the oldest, but middle in the whole lineup.
Step Brother (step mom)
Step Brother (step dad)
Step Brother (step mom)
Step Sister (step dad)
Step Brother (step dad)
Me 27 (by 32 minutes)
Identical Twin Sister 27
Brother 26
Half Brother 18 (stepmom/dad)
Half Brother 15 (stepmom/dad)
Half Brother 10 (Stepmom/dad)
3) Do you get along with your siblings? My twin sister and I are really close. We are also close to my brother and fairly close to my step sister. I am "Facebook Close" with the rest of them. Unfortunately my dad and step mom are Conspiracy Theory nuts (and passing it on to the next generation), so that kind of drives a wedge between me and them. No, my sister's Crohn's disease can't be cured by baking soda...
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Yes. Between my twin sister, brother, and I, I am the oldest and have always been the more responsible, motherly one. I was the first to marry and now the first to have a baby (which we all knew would be the case growing up). My brother is the quintessential youngest child.
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. It's not really a childhood story; it's more current. Every year, my brother/sister-in-law, sister/soon-to-be-fiance (sshhh....she doesn't know yet!!), and I/DH get together for our own Thanksgiving/Christmas. We call it the A****-clan Thanksgiving (Sorry for the censor. I don't want to announce my maiden name, but I love what we call it). I usually make the turkey, because I get it free from the grocery store point system. Then we exchange Christmas presents. We schedule it between Thanksgiving and Christmas every year. It's something I always look forward to -- getting the three of us and our SOs together.
DS 2/17/15

EDD 2/18/17
1) How many siblings do you have? I was raised with 2 siblings, but I have 4 total.
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? We really only refer to my 2 siblings I was raised with, but either way Im the youngest.
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? We are siblings... we love each other, but we fought most of the time. None of that best friend crap over here.
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Nope. Im the leader of my family, the responsible one with their life together. The other two are sort of slackers and late bloomers... they are still figuring life out. Brother is 34 and still lives with mom and dad.
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. Its too early to think this hard. lol I might come back later to give you a good story.
Waited a long time, tried a lot of stuff, science made me a mom.
ANOTHER TWIN!!!! I'm 32 minutes older than my sister. She was born face up. My mom was also a twin (as well as her mom and her mom's uncles), so she tried to keep us as individualized as possible. My sister and I were polar opposites, especially in high school. Now that we are adults, we are becoming more and more alike.
DS 2/17/15
BFP 6/12/17
EDD 2/18/17
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? I am the second to youngest
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? ummmm, well my dad was married 6 times and my mom was married 4, so I have a lot of half siblings (the three brothers) and a lot of step siblings. It has obviously been difficult to get along with them through the years. I am probably closest to my older brother. Also, because my parents divorced when I was 2, I bounced back and forth between houses and had a difficult time developing relationships with siblings.
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? no, because we all come from different households. I do think I get the better end of the stick though. I was essentially an only child at my dad's because my brother had moved out. I had an uncommon upbringing haha
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're I LOVED going to my grandmas house with my brother. It was the only few times he was actually nice to me (I was the annoying youngersister). We would watch back to the future and eat tons of candy. an only child.
2) I'm 2nd of 8
3) I get along with my siblings but have a different relationship with different siblings. My older brother is the only sibling who is married. My youngest brother is still in high school. I just relate to them differently.
4) Yes - my closest siblings in age and I all have grad degrees (an MBA, a PhD, and an MD). We're all perfectionist, self-driven types. My youngest siblings are more free spirits and get away with a lot.
5) There are 4 boys and 4 girls in my family, but after my older brother my parents had 4 girls in a row, then 3 more boys. When the older at of my younger brothers was about 6 months old, my older brother informed my parents that a little brother 10 years younger than you is no better than a sister.
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? Only
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? Like Oem, I asked for siblings growing up, but never felt like I was missing out. I love being an only child. My parents are my best friends (nerd, I know)! I only wish I had a sibling to deal with aging parents/holidays with. Holidays are hard because my parents are both only children and their parents are all deceased. So it's just me & my little family. There's always guilt & pressure around the holidays when it comes to deciding how we're going to split time between my parents & DH's family.
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Obviously not with siblings, but absolutely with relationships in general, be it classmates, coworkers, or my in-laws and friends. I love doing things alone, but I hate to be left out. I take everything personally. I have a lot of oldest child traits, but I am a type B.
2) Are you the oldest, youngest, middle, only, other? I am the middle.
3) Do you get along with your siblings? If you don't have any, do you wish you did? Yes.
4) Do you think your birth order played a role in who you and your siblings are as people today? Although I was the middle child, I was much like the oldest. My older brother that passed away when I was 14 had cerebral palsy and never walked, talked, fed himself. I helped my parents a lot growing up, and they depended on me. When he passed away, I knew that I would one day become a physical therapist to help people like him. I now work in pediatrics and made that dream a reality 8 years ago.
5) Tell your favorite story from childhood that involves a sibling. Or just a favorite childhood story if you're an only child. A favorite story would be my older brother was the only one who would sit and listen to me practicing my clarinet, probably because he couldn't run away, lol. He had a light talking computer, and he would say to me, "Brigid, you are the apple of my eye." I miss his smile, but know I have a guardian angel looking out for my family. He smiled all the time. Now his smile is from heaven.
