So, as you know, I had my first OB appointment today. I debated sharing this, because I have a small chance of everything still turning out okay, and because I just found out my relative might be joining the bump. But, I need support, so here it goes. If I was 3 days further along, I'd have a omphalocele diagnosis. Looks like intestines are fully protruded and have 3 days left to make it back inside. It's so severe, I need a miracle at this point.

An omphalocele (British English: omphalocoele) is a type of abdominal wall defect in which the intestines, liver, and occasionally other organsremain outside of the abdomen in a sac because of a defect in the development of the muscles of the abdominal wall (exomphalos). When my son was in the NICU, we had a baby boy across the hall with something like this. He had quite a few surgeries under his belt, but seemed happy and was going to have an okay outcome.

What is the next step?

ETA: I'm so surprised they can tell it's intestines. I had over 20 ultrasounds, including MRI's and fetal echo's....they didn't know what my son's diagnosis was until he was born. But somehow they can tell that ball is intestines at 12 weeks....blows my mind.

They did lots of blood work, and I go back in 2 weeks for another ultrasound. I guess I will know the next step in 2 weeks.

I'm a lurker, so I hope you don't mind me responding. MFM thought DS1 was going to have this. Has anyone talked to you about what will happen when the baby is born? While we were waiting for the official diagnosis I found it helpful to know what was going to happen when he arrived. It calmed a lot of my fears, because I knew there was a plan to fix it. I'm sorry your going through this. Hope it turns to be nothing.

My mom was with me, so the doctor was carefully choosing his words. I didn't get much guidance. But, I'm glad he didn't reveal too much in front of my mother! I've done a little reading, but I will only have my husband with me when I go back in 2 weeks.
