@ssstephanie214...I was just coming to ask a similar question!! Thank you for starting it.
We were planning on using the PNP with bassinet for baby to sleep in beside our bed. Has anyone used that before for baby? (picture attached)
I had several friends who used their PNP beside their bed and really loved it. I was planning on doing that until the most recent babies among my group got RNP as they raved about them.
Another diaper rash note: my pediatrician told my mom to blow my booty with a hair dryer after changing my diaper. I never had a diaper rash and therefore my swore by the practice. With my dd when her hair (finally) started to grow out I noticed she looked like she had cradle cap, so I started to blow dry her hair after bath and it went away.
And I preferred desitin over a&d for treatment, occasionally using a&d for prevention when I had a feeling a rash was coming on.
Should I bother with newborn sized diapers? I have one package of 32 and then I bought a giant box of size 1. I know it depends on how big LO is when he's born, but I don't want the newborn size to go to waste.
So is it true you aren't supoosed to do onesies with a cord stump??
And if so, where in the world can we find little shirts? My mw did recommend them.
I was always told to make sure any onesies or sleepers were not tight fitting, although mine were all so skinny that wasn't an issue. I do try to use the kimono shirts at the beginning, though. I believe I saw them at Target recently.

N was naked a lot in the beginning (with a diaper on of course), so I never really worried about the cord stump. To help with milk production you should do a lot of skin to skin time which is why she was naked so much. When I took her out I just put her in a sleeper or onsie and pants. Just be careful and you will be fine with the cord stump! N's stayed on for what seemed like forever. 11 days to be exact.

I thought side snap shirts were an infant staple, but they aren't in many big box stores near me. I ended up finding some at Burlington, which has a good baby center. If I hadn't found those, I would have had to buy online. They come in long or short sleeves. I got long sleeves.
Here's my dumb diaper question I've felt too embarrassed to ask anyone...do you use wipes when it's just a wet diaper? I'm having a boy, if that affects the answer.
Also, the books I read say to use water and washcloths instead of wipes for diaper changes in the first few weeks. Is this a real thing? I feel like I'll have a lot going on with a newborn to be having to wash poopy washcloths.
If baby is carrying low the whole time, will I still be able to notice when he drops ? I feel like he has been so low this whole time that he can't possibly get any lower.

@kayd8 I used wipes every diaper change, especially since my son was circumcised so I didn't want any bacteria or old urine to accumulate near his penis while it healed. If you aren't circumsising, you need to ensure you are properly cleaning the head of the penis. I used unscented and gentle wipes for the first month in case of sensitivities. I didn't use wash clothes and water. I wonder if the reasoning behind that is in case your baby has a reaction, but I don't think it is necessary.
Think of it this way- men who are able to use the potty don't wipe themselves after because it goes straight into the bowl, but your baby is going to be sitting in a diaper that holds the pee In it. Would you clean yourself, or want your SO to clean themselves if you/they wore underwear that held your pee?

I did with my son, but that was mostly because he was so prone to diaper rash. I wanted to make sure that any acidity from the urine was gone. If he had been a girl I would have done it regardless because of the difference in equipment.
Daycare required us to provide wipes and I always kept a pack in the diaper bag but I rarely used them at home. My mom used a damp washcloth with all of us and I saw no reason to do otherwise. Wipes are just something else to spend money on. IMO, washcloths are better at cleaning up messy poops anyway. When I started CD'ing with DD2, I just put the washcloths in with the diapers to wash.

So question brought up by the announcement for CatLady22 - it says her water broke but they are inducing her because she's only at 1 cm. Was that just written in a way that confused me? Does it mean her water broke but things aren't moving along fast enough so they are giving her Pitocin? I am trying to avoid all the drugs for my delivery so just trying to learn about different scenarios.

I was wondering the same thing. I'd assume either it was a typo or there is some reason (risk of infection, maybe?) that they needed to get things moving faster. Better than jumping to a CSection I guess...

I'd guess yes, as this is how my labor went with DS. Water broke at 5am. NO progression by 11. Pitocin started at noon. Not an induction, but something to help labor along.

Your provider probably has a policy on how long they'll let you go with your water broken before they'll give you pitocin. For many it's 24 hours, but some like to induce sooner, so if you're hoping to avoid meds it's worth asking. You also don't have to go in right away if you're full term when your water breaks. The longer you can labor at home, the less likely their pitocin trigger finger will get twitchy. My water broke before 37 weeks, so I was admitted immediately, but they let me wait for contractions to start on their own.

I got my red raspberry leaf tea - how much of this stuff am I supposed to be drinking?
I try to drink 3-4 strong cups a day, but I usually end up skipping every few days because I don't get around to making a pot in the morning. Personally I prefer it iced.

The same situation happened to me with DS. My water broke at 10pm and I was "fingertip" dilated. By the next morning (I don't remember exactly when, but sometime after the 7am shift change so 9+ hours after my water broke) I had not progressed at all so they started me on Pitocin. I always understood that they didn't want you to go too long after your water broke because of the risk of infection. DS was born at 4:44pm.

What is better? An infant car seat or a convertible car seat? I am pulling my hair out with this car seat business. I mentioned it in another thread but basically we bought a convertible that is too big for our little ford focus hatchback. I love my car, it's a 2013, still new so not getting a new car. Any suggestions??
Thanks meeshybee, JFH2010, kakicloud and mslynn2012! I am planning to labor at home as long as I can, the hospital is not far away for us. (10-15 minutes tops) My biggest labor fear scenario is that things won't be moving along and they'll push Pitocin on me, I won't be able to handle the stronger drug-induced contractions and get an epidural, and then I don't have any urge to push and end up with a C-section. My logical brain is not afraid of this with my hospital or doctors, they are very mom and baby friendly. But this was the flipside of reading a lot of natural childbirth books - they don't make labor sound scary, they make hospitals and doctors sound scary and cold.

Another big factor in terms of whether they augment labor in this situation is GBS status, if you are positive, they may be more aggressive sticking to that 24 hour window. Also if you are GBS+ it will be more likely that you will be advised to come to L and D right after your water breaks so you can be given antibiotics vs if you are GBS-.
@highbornhunter I would ask your OB which specific situations their practice will augment labor and if these are suggestions or hard/fast rules.
@silverwings72 I loved having an infant car seat, as DS often fell asleep in the car and I could just bring him and the seat into the house without interrupting his nap.
I also got an attachment for my stroller so I could easily nap the car seat onto it so he could transition to that as well when we were out.

Thanks! I will definitely ask this week at my appt. I had my GBS test last week so they should have an answer on that for me that will shed some light on things.

@mommymeg143 this is the one we have, too, that we plan to use in the beginning. Have heard great things about the "napper" from IRL new moms.
Side note, DH loves to say the word "napper" - not sure why, but he now tries to throw it into normal conversations just to be able to say the word. Added bonus?
There seems to be a lot of talk about the onset or increased frequency of BH in correlation with labor... I thought these two types of contractions were unrelated in as far as BH being an indicator of active labor :-/ Did I miss that memo? I was under the impression that some will never even feel BH and others will have discomfort with them for months, and that's just the way it goes... that BH & the intensity of which you perceive them offer no valid foresight of your L&D experience, no?
Have we discussed how to pick baby formula? I know most on here are planning to BF but I'm still on the fence. I started to research formula and was super overwhelmed by the 14 billion options. I understand that different types work for different babies so it could all be a moot point, but I was hoping to get some with my completion coupon to have on hand regardless of what I end up doing. Do any of the STMs have any recs or preferences?

I don't have a preference as far as a specific brand, but I stay with the same brand the entire time. My cats have stomach issues when I switch cat food brands, so I assume a baby would have issues as well. I know that sounds odd to compare it to, but it's the easiest way I can explain it. With DS the daycare provided a certain brand so I went with that. You can always find promos and coupons for any brand of formula.
Really the only decision I have to make is regular or soy. Soy can be harder to find and more expensive, so unless LO has an issue with the regular formula I'll stick with that.

I liked the costco brand. It's very similar to the name brands (I compared it line by line with Enfamil) and it was SO much cheaper. I was using similac before that and for a regular sized can it was $28 and I went through that in 5 days. The costco brand was $23 but frequently on sale for $18 a can and it was roughly double the size of can. Being that the formula components were so close, I couldn't bring myself to buy the name brand stuff.
