Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere and I missed it- but I read you're not supposed to use dryer sheets with baby clothes. What else can we do to prevent static?

If this is true I'm going to be pissed. Im just finishing up like the 10th load of LO's laundry....I really dont want to go back and rewash!

I use dryer balls. I got mine at Target I think a long time ago. My skin is pretty sensitive so I don't like using dryer sheets. They bounce around with the clothes and keep towels fluffy and soft. Might be something to try if you're worried about sensitivity issues.

Besides dryer balls (you can make these yourself btw with aluminum foil) you can use white vinegar as a laundry softener. Just pour it in the wash in the laundry softener cup. This is also my secret tip when I've left clothes in the wash too long and they get that smell- add extra white vinegar to the load and rewash. Gets rid of the funk.

The primary thoughts as to why one shouldn't use them with baby clothes is because 1) they leave chemical reside on the clothes that you don't want on sensitive baby skin and 2) for any clothes that have a flame retardant in them (primarily jammies but you can check labels) the dryer sheets reduce the effectiveness of the retardant.
I never grew up with them and bought a pack after DH and I were married but hated the way they made my clothes feel like they were coated in something, so I never thought to use thm for dd's clothes. I found this info out after she was born. If you want to rewash for the sensitive skin purpose go for it, but I'm guessing the damage is done for the fire retardant purpose. I'm sorry. If it makes you feel any better, dd has survived in her fire retardant clothes without ever being in a situation when I thought her clothes would actually catch fire anyways, like the majority of children I suppose.

Well crap. I'm not worried about sensitive skin issues since we use the free and clear ones. And I don't remember seeing anything on any of labels when I was pulling off tags and getting everything ready to wash. At this point nothing I can do. Its not like I'm going to go out and buy new stuff for him!
My DH has always been overly concerned with plastic bottles (especially the microwave sterilizers) . He doesn't give me strong opinions on too much baby related, so I decided to go along with him.
Even though they are pricey, I registered for a few of the Joovy glass bottles and also the Joovy PPSU plastic gift set. The PPSU set is supposed to be able to stand repeated sterilizations without absorbing odor or color. The gift set also has an adapter that can connect the bottles to most breast pumps.
@lovebuggies1 I haven't thought about it yet! I think we are going to see what works best. I just like that I will have both options and can use whatever is easier at the time. I just like that at least their plastic bottles are safer than most. We will probably use plastic on-the-go and the glass at home for the most part. Then we'll see about LO when he's big enough to handle it. The glass bottles come with a sleeve that protects them from breaking.

So when the baby gets old enough to start to hold its own bottle, will you still use the glass ones?
Most of the glass bottles I have seen have a silicone sleeve on them. that makes them far harder to break.

I'm using the Joovy bottles, too. They are supposed to be great for breast fed babies. The bottles are even called "Boob" bottles. They have both glass and plastic.
If you have a c-section, do you have any bleeding afterwards? Obviously it wouldn't be as much as a vaginal birth, but is there still stuff to come out, or do they clean it all out when they're in there?
Possibly a really dumb question.

They clean you up pretty good. There is still some bleeding but I didn't find it too bad.
I actually bled a lot and for 5 weeks. I didnt have the tears down there but your insides are doing the same thing.

Interesting. I assumed there would be some...stuff to come out still, so it would make sense to bleed, but I didn't know if the bleeding from a vaginal birth was mainly from tears.
Either way I'll still need that giant Costco sized box of pads I bought!
I just wanted to report back to the ladies wondering about nursing bras, my Cake ones arrived today (the sports bra type ones) and are SO comfortable. I mean obviously not nursing yet so I can't say how they'll do there, but they are very soft and comfy from what I can tell.
@Jatpa003 try your local health unit as well. Usually they only rent thing out to moms how are having issues (like I did last time) but they might help you out! Your MIL sounds like a piece of work. Do NOT share anything with her about BFing. If she harps on you bring up the fact that moms who are BFing need SUPPORT not negative comments, she's hindering the process not helping. She sounds just as fanatical as the local LLL leader here is. I hated her.
This. I am so angry for you! If BF is too stressful for you, it won't be good for you or baby. You need to do what's right for everyone involved, and if that means pumping then pump away! If that means formula, there are good ones out there! Shame on your MIL for not being more supportive of your needs.
It's unclear about exercise post birth. Assuming everything's "normal" and "natural", when can I start running again and doing more high impact?? I've read that resuming exercise is fine but with all the bleeding the sources out there don't exactly say how vigorously I can begin. (Used to be an exercise freak before baby , so eager.)
So I started snoring about halfway through this pregnancy, which is annoying but normal and whatever. ...please tell me that I'll stop snoring once the baby is born (as in once my body gets its funk normalized, not just because I won't be sleeping).

I can't speak for you or me, but my sister started slowly after getting the all-clear in order to be most likely to develop a routine and stick with an exercise program. She started with doing as many sit ups as the baby was days old and walking to the end of the road to get the mail. As the weather for warmer and she healed and gained more strength, the walks got longer and more intensive exercises were introduced. Just go slow and maintain your comfort is what I guess I'm trying to say. ...hope that helps?
@misterdonut you need to talk to your doctor and get the go ahead. If you start to soon and to vigorously, your uterus can actually fall out of you. So please, be careful!
Ok, I have a mucus plug question! I will be 37 weeks tomorrow and today I started losing big chunks of my mucus plug. I know that it doesn't mean anything right now. I assume at this point it won't start to regenerate will it? Also, how much is there to lose? And once I have the bloody show, does that mean that it's all out and I could potentially go in to labour sooner rather than later?
@jpinky9 It can still regenerate! It can be a sign that you're dilating and that birth is approaching... but it can also just be One Of Those Things. You may lose pieces of mucous for the next three weeks 'til your due date, or it may have been a fluke and not happen again, or you could go into labor. Bloody show is more of a sign that labor is approaching, but it's not necessarily going to happen now.
So I referred to Dr. Google and now I'm nervous, already texted my midwife and she didn't respond. I climbed into bed tonight and got sudden and intense back pain in a spot where I haven't had any the entire pregnancy (lumbar area). According to goigle - baby centre specifically - this could be a sign of preterm labour. I'm remaining calm that it's nothing and have felt LO move a lot since then. If there's a lot of movement is it fine? I'm mostly wondering if a STM has had sudden back pain that alerted her to labour. ETA not labour in my case. I don't think my midwife was impressed unless accompanied by contractions and other signs of labour she suggested massage, chiro etc. If anyone else has this worry
As confirmed by my doctor today, LO has started to drop. And now, my pelvis is super uncomfortable and it is almost as though I can feel every single ligament stretching out. It has become difficult for me to walk or do anything else. it seems like LO is super cramped and my stomach is uncomfortable too. I'm sure that I will get used to it, but gosh, is anyone else as uncomfortable as me? I'm 34 weeks and 3 days and I just want to stay in bed today, ugh.
Can someone explain the difference between diaper rash creams and their uses? Do you use something everytime you change LO? Only when they have diaper rash? What are your favourite kinds?
I thought I'd read something about using coconut oil (I'm a big fan of coconut oil), would this be okay to use everytime? Is it necessary?

I was a big fan of Desitin or the generic until I started CD'ing (bad for cloth diapers). Only used it as needed, though. DS was both a heavy wetter AND a really good sleeper, so unfortunately he was prone to diaper rash. I used a little bit of baby powder in his diaper for prevention when I put him down for the night. Seemed to help.
I haven't heard of using coconut oil, but I would assume anything that makes a barrier between the skin and moisture would work. I know down here the home remedy is Crisco if you're in a pinch!

@meeshybee and @KUinCBUS thank you! I was so overwhelmed by the choices in the supermarket today and I didn't really know exactly what the point of it was. This makes a lot of sense. I have a few tubes that were given to me at my shower so I'll see which I like and go from there. I'm also going to give coconut oil a shot too.
We only use diaper cream if baby starts looking red, not as standard practice. DS is 2 years old and we've probably only used cream maybe a dozen days in his lifetime.
So is it true you aren't supoosed to do onesies with a cord stump??
I'm sure different people will say different things, but we use onesies/sleepers all the time in the NICU when babies still have the cord stump. We also give swaddle baths (we get the cord wet without submerging it) and make sure to dry it well and the cords are just fine.

@AnnieRoo13 ...Desitin (max strength, in the purple tube) is my favorite. I thought A+D wiped off too easily. However I know people who swear by just about every brand, heh.
Most creams are essentially zinc oxide and are designed to create a moisture barrier between the baby's skin and the moisture retained in the diaper.
We only use diaper cream when there is already a rash (or a hint of one).
Generally we tried to prevent rash by changing DD's diapers frequently and by giving her some diaper free time daily just to let things totally air / dry out down there.
Sometimes (especially with kids that are long sleepers) you can't always prevent a rash. Also, there are many diaper rash causes (including but not limited to moisture, medications, dietary changes and chafing).
Yes! The bold. I forgot about that. We called it "born free" time. We laid a towel on the floor after a bath and let them play or have tummy time for a bit to let things air out.

Should we have any sort of medicine on hand for babies in the beginning? I imagine in the beginning baby would go to the pediatrician for any issues that arise?

I just picked up the stuff recommended on Lucie's List to be on the safe side. I'll probably be calling the doctor before trying any of it. But that way if they say it doesn't sound serious, try x, y, and z, I will have some basics on hand.
@AnnieRoo13 We use Butt Paste. A lot of my friends like Anti Monkey Butt. Use it when needed, you don't have to use it every time.
@misterdonut Don't do too much after birth without talking to your doctor first. Also, a lot will depend on how your birth goes. Will it be vaginal or C Section? Will there be complications or will everything go smoothly? Will your tailbone be injured or will there be enough room for the baby to make its way down? All of these will impact your time before you can resume more vigorous exercise.

I registered for the Little Remedies New Parents Survival Kit -- came with a bunch of stuff that seems useful (Little Remedies for Noses, Little Remedies for Tummies, Little Remedies Infant Fever Reducer / Pain Reliever, Gripe Water) and we also bought some infant Tylenol.. We'll still consult a doctor but I wanted to have some stuff on hand to avoid a run to the store.
@mander82 I recommend having gripe water on hand. Maybe tylenol just in case. But you don't need much. You could do vitamin drops if you wanted, but I wouldn't give any of it without talking to the pediatrician first. Also, if you have one already, ask them what they recommend having for meds on hand when you bring LO home.
when people say "the baby sleeps in the RnP" do they mean the rnp or the rnp bassinet.
we have a snugakitty rnp (it is the most precious looking object ever manufactured) and i'm still unclear as to whether the baby can sleep in it at night.

If you cloth diaper, be careful with the cream, most of them will cause repelling issues.
