Postpartum pooping is more terrifying than labor. X_X I hate it!
I am so nervous for this! Kind of a related question, but one of my girlfriends suggested just bringing my own stool softener to the hospital to take, because they will charge me an arm and a leg for the stool softener vs just paying for a bottle myself. Has anyone done this?
Charge you or your insurance an arm and a leg?
This. And hospitals really frown on patients bringing in their own meds. The pharmacy should provide you with all meds you need during your stay, even if not birth-related.
Yep. You want everything you take accounted for with the pharmacy and in your record. In the grand scheme of what the birth is going to cost, the softener is negligible.
5 cycles of "TTC" - 3 intentional, 2 not so intentional. 5 BFPs. My rainbow arrived 10/15/14. TFMC 08.02.13 at 19+ weeks. Everyday I grieve for my little Olive.

I was told not even to take my prescription medication (synthroid) that I take every day, and that the hospital would be providing any and all medication required during my stay. They don't want to risk any confusion over what a patient took and when, or risk missing an important med or overdosing. I'd leave your meds at home and just be sure to ask for the colace pronto.
OMG - thank you @emerald27! I hadn't even thought about packing my thyroid medication! While my hosptial might be like yours, I haven't talked to anyone about it so I'd need to make sure I take it with me just in case. Thank you, thank you for the reminder!

Some of her issues may have been her insurance plan, and the fact that all of her prenatal care was in 2013 but she delivered in 2014. She claimed she was charged (and had to pay since she had not met her oop Max) nearly $100 for one stool softener, which seemed outrageous to me. I didn't feel like getting into a debate about stool softeners with her so I didn't question it much at the time!
I just started taking colace this week to help with constipation and figured I would take it til I was comfortable post partum, so if the hospital is just going to give me something equivalent it seems less pricey to just use what I have.
@angeltennis3 I would bring your own with you, in addition to any medications you currently take. Worst case scenario, they have a policy against lettin you use your own pills and it stays in your bag. Best case, you save some $$.
Last time, I brought my asthma medication with me, but they brought me a new one anyway. I got charged more than triple what my pharmacy charges and I didn't even need them to give me one.
ETA: I knew there would be folks with more accurate information than I had. Listen to PPs- they give great advice.
I feel like DH and I are sort of ahead of the game compared to our friends. We own a house and not many of our friends do. We have kids, and a lot of our friends don't. So everyone always comes to us when they need anything. It is both flattering and maddening.
This is the same friend who wanted to do laundry at my place before her wedding...so maybe it is a habit...?

It may also be wiser to take what the doctor prescribes, but if the cost means that much to you.....

...and every nurse/tech reminded me not to take my synthroid in the morning because they'd bring it before breakfast, and they never brought it. I called the nurse 10 mins before breakfast was set to arrive because I was starving and wouldn't want to wait. She said that the other nurse had forgotten to order my synthroid and told me just to not tell her that I took my own. :-?? So even though hospitals don't want you to take your own meds, definitely pack them!

Oh I am all for with going with what the doctor thinks is best. Just was curious if this was a "thing" because she made such a big deal about it. I will likely pack the colace and just discuss it with the doctor when the time comes. My insurance coverage is pretty thorough so I am not overly concerned about it.

Officially 6 cm. They are sold and admitting me! So I will let you rest @SPurp13 and @MrsSinner402 can hopefully all give you somr updates in the morning.
I spent months lamenting the fact I could barely feel LO because of my anterior placenta; now, I can't stop feeling him and I hate to say it's sometimes maddening in the opposite direction! I know movement is supposed to slow or decrease, but this little guy didn't get the memo. It feels like he's raging in there!
When I told my MFM this the other day he gave me a high five! Lol
Same here! My doctor warned me the the anterior placenta would make movement more gentle and harder to feel and that has not been the case at all. Sometimes the kicks, jabs and rolls are so strong I feel like I am getting bruises.

My hospital actually encouraged me to bring my asthma and allergy meds with me because it would be such a pain to get from the pharmacy. When I was admitted at 27 weeks they asked me to have my husband bring them and they noted that I took my own meds in the chart. Also I packed stool softener in my hospital bag. Just double check with your doc what the policy is.
Having worked in a hospital pharmacy for 10+ years and having a husband who is a pharmacist, I decided to bring my own medications. I knew far too well how mistakes can happen in a hospital. They nurses gave me a sheet to document the home meds I took that shift. When admitted I had to complete a form listing all the medications I brought with me and it was sent to be verified by pharmacy (to make sure I wasn't taking anything I shouldn't and to make sure they wouldn't interact) On the nurse medicarion list it clearly stated that I took my own medication so they knew not to bring me anything. I felt much better knowing that I didn't have to worry about them bringing me the wrong dose or medicarion.
That sad moment when the girl guides FINALLY come to your door, so you happily purchase 2 boxes of the mint because you've been waiting forever only to find out that they just don't taste as good as you've been dreaming about.....still ate one whole side of a box, but with a little less enthusiasm.
Ok need opinions. A friend just text me and asked if I had a pack n play they could borrow for the weekend because she is taking care of her niece and they'll be quasi camping (in a camper but pnp for outside during the day). I told her no because realistically I could have this baby at any time and didn't want to lend it out before we even had a chance to use it.
Is that fucked up?
Nope. I'd have said no too and wouldn't feel bad about it at all.
Guise. There may be hope...
I'm totally having contractions. Real, painful, never-felt-this-before contractions.
Each one is getting closer together..started 10 mins apart and now down to 7.5.
Oh.Snap.
Two words.. cluster feedings. Also, I am this close to using a pacifier despite dd's unwillingness to latch without a nipple shield.
I hope you get at least some sleep tonight in between feedings. Cluster feeding is no fun
Thanks. I hope so too. We went 3 hours between start times this time so that's more normal for her. Before it was 8 pm, 9 pm, and 11 pm and the she screamed until 12:30 am and I fed her again.

I can't believe that a week ago at this time I was laboring at home. Time flies!
