Re: UO

My UO: I don't like being asked for prayers (here and elsewhere). Partly because I'm not religious, but also, I pettily feel like it's someone telling me what to do. If you post about a bad or troubling situation that you're in, partly just to share and vent, I'm totally fine with that. And I'm also fine with people then offering you their condolences, thoughts, and/or prayers.

Something just ticks me off about being asked (because it feels like being told): please pray for me.
It can come across as an imperative. To a non-believer (sitting right next to you), it can be uncomfortable.

I offer thoughts and vibes because I do want them to know I hope all will be well. I sometimes worry that the poster might think I'm trivializing their situation by offering thoughts and vibes, but it's what I've got to give. Prayers from me wouldn't be genuine.
Ya doubt anyone would want my prayers since I am a non believer. I also give good thoughts.

  • @sugahcookie01 Yes! I do the same.

I am also not religious, but when someone asks for prayers, I will sometimes put T's & P's. But in my mind it's for thoughts & positivity.

Aww, I know this is partly pregnant sentiment on my part, but I actually super-love the idea of sending out "thoughts and positivity"!

Thanks all for making me feel like a semi-normal, semi-kind person after my grumpy-old-grump of a post! :x :x :x

I HATE home parties. I hate how people who I haven't talked to in years try and call me up and ask me to host one or come to one.

     1) I haven't talked to you in years. I don't call you and try to get business from you and I have an actual business.

2)I don't want your overpriced junk

    3) If I haven't kept in touch with you--there is a reason.

It seems like this is happening ALL THE TIME as I get older and people are getting more insistent. I have a guy on my fb (who I only keep on for shits and giggles) was with Body by Vi for a few months, everyday it was some AMAZING testimonial on how great it is, then he went to some pre canned shit, then he was a "seacret agent" and now he is nerium. And all these amazing posts and reviews by him all the time. Get a real job. PS. Obv you ARENT making money if you are changing companies more than I change my panties.

Edited some of my terrible spelling.

I mean, I'm totally being petty and pedantic, because frankly, I don't mind at ALL when someone posts about a situation as a separate thread, or in any way is putting a situation out there that they know probably will garner support and stuff.

I literally just have a problem with the phrasing of "Please pray!" or "Pray for me!" -- I think this may be a personal problem, probably a leftover remnant of teenaged derision from when I was a non-religious person at a very Catholic school, but I swear, I see it and just say out loud: "NO. I will not."

(this is embarrassing me a bit, I have to say -- I feel like a child! But, oh well, UO!)
I totally agree. I don't mind when someone posts about a situation to garner good thoughts but I hate being asked to pray. I won't pray. And I also avoid saying T&P because I don't do prayers, although I like @MommyofaMiracle calling it thoughts and positivity.
