I think all the hippie anti-Monsanto people are annoying and stupid.
I have one of those people as a friend and she posted something on Facebook about how Monsanto caused my daughter's autism. I just had to bite my tongue.

I hope you mean her daughters autism, not your daughters autism... I just personally think it would have been really rude for her to comment on what you may or may not have done to contribute to a medical condition in your child. That would just be none of her business!

This, exactly. I think that Monsanto has created a lot of food problems, I do not think they are the reason for your daughter's autism. Crotch kicks being sent her way.

F15 Siggy Challenge: What You're Looking Forward to Most After Baby Arrives: BELLY SLEEPING!
@smg2302 it's a company and they genetically modify foods. My friend thinks they are the devil. I'll still let my kid eat goldfish because idgaf.
We try to eat healthy but I also let my kid eat goldfish and her favorite food is hotdogs, so, ya know...
One thing that really turned me off to Monsanto that I learned from watching Food, Inc. for a class is that they genetically modify their vegetable seeds so that they can not be grown the following season. So, whereas in the past farmers could buy seeds, grow food, then collect seeds for the next season, the seeds are now useless. Also, if a farmer does manage to propogate seeds the following season Monsanto can/will sue them for "stealing." Same thing goes for seeds that are blown onto a neighboring property - if Monsanto catches them on an unauthorized farm they are sued.
F15 Siggy Challenge: What You're Looking Forward to Most After Baby Arrives: BELLY SLEEPING!
I'm definitely not a fan of theirs but if all you're going to do is bitch and moan, go buy a farm and raise and grow your own gmo free foods. Which is what I always tell said friend. She says that's too much work though. @-)
Eta: not that you guys are complaining. I just meant my friend and people like her.
I think the whole baby-wearing culture is a bit much. As my mom put it, people have been "wearing" babies for decades...they just called it a front-pack and didn't make a big deal of it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely going to buy a sling for when LO shows up, I just don't get the whole cult-like following that baby wearing seems to have.
I feel this way about a lot of things. For some reason it bothers me that cultures get built around activities. So if I like football but don't have a team or tailgate than in not a real football fan. I feel like while there are a lot of positive aspects for these cultures many of them area way too exclude others and demean their commitment to it. In some ways it turns enjoying things into a competition. Maybe my perspective is skewed buti get tired of seeing and hearing "you aren'ta real gamer", "you aren't a real athlete", etc.

It drives me crazy when people give their kids smart phones/ipads to "occupy" them whether at a restaurant, on the train, in the car, etc. I feel like DH and I are in the minority in that we give our kids crayons and Match Box cars instead. I am not sure of the long term implications of such early electronic device use but I personally feel that it cannot be good.

I like the smell of gasoline and hate the word cake.
Important question: Do you like to eat cake?
I LOVE to eat cake. I just don't like hearing people say the word.
What are people supposed to call it? Spongy, frosting covered deliciousness?
I'm genuinely curious, I have never heard of someone hating the word cake and I'm slightly intrigued.. lol
They can call it cake all day, every day. I just don't like the way it sounds. I honestly think it's the c and the k so close together. But it won't stop me from eating it. I will tear some, "spongy, frosting covered deliciousness" up!!
I don't like celebrating my birthday. I don't like having peopke giving me giftz and cake and singing to me because it my birthday. I rather be left alone the whole day then to be given a celebration.

I use to think this too and then I started wearing. From what I have viewed there is a lot of opposition to it. People make offensive remarks based on race, perceived financial situation, and parenting. The baby wearing community is pretty small and close. I think people are paying more attention to it because there is a new buzzword so to say and mainstream more now than previous years. Again this is just based on what I have seen and experienced the last twoish years.
I know we all have different tastes, but his face always looks to me like the first round of carving a sculpture's face, before the artist gets down to actually refining features. I'm sure he's a lovely person, but facially? Ick.

My UO: I don't like being asked for prayers (here and elsewhere). Partly because I'm not religious, but also, I pettily feel like it's someone telling me what to do. If you post about a bad or troubling situation that you're in, partly just to share and vent, I'm totally fine with that. And I'm also fine with people then offering you their condolences, thoughts, and/or prayers.
Something just ticks me off about being asked (because it feels like being told): please pray for me.

I hate when people are tild im not religious and they say "i'll pray for you" in response to that.

I see where you are coming from on this. I generally respond with "sending positive thoughts" or "sending hugs your way" instead of prayers (because I am also, not religious).
To be fair, when my MIL was diagnosed with cancer (again), I really appreciated the positive comments from this group BUT I also posted about it in a Spam Thread and didn't ask for prayers/was venting as you said previously.
Long and short, I don't love it either, but understand WHY people do it.
I mean, I'm totally being petty and pedantic, because frankly, I don't mind at ALL when someone posts about a situation as a separate thread, or in any way is putting a situation out there that they know probably will garner support and stuff.
I literally just have a problem with the phrasing of "Please pray!" or "Pray for me!" -- I think this may be a personal problem, probably a leftover remnant of teenaged derision from when I was a non-religious person at a very Catholic school, but I swear, I see it and just say out loud: "NO. I will not."
(this is embarrassing me a bit, I have to say -- I feel like a child! But, oh well, UO!)

It can come across as an imperative. To a non-believer (sitting right next to you), it can be uncomfortable.
I offer thoughts and vibes because I do want them to know I hope all will be well. I sometimes worry that the poster might think I'm trivializing their situation by offering thoughts and vibes, but it's what I've got to give. Prayers from me wouldn't be genuine.
Awaiting our bundle of cute chaos.
