@VioletSkies Welcome to the thread. I'm sorry you failed and have to join us, but we're gathering a good group of ladies to help us run the GD gauntlet.
I'm adding the basic diet info most of us have from our doctors and the link to the first thread to the first post, so all the new people joining over the past few weeks can review our previous discussions.
Good luck, and feel free to jump in with questions, complaints, etc.
@VioletSkies creepy ehugs! This is my first GD pregnancy as well and these ladies have been an amazing resource. It took me a couple days to stop feeling sorry for myself, and after about a week of the diet and testing my sugars it has already become a lot easier.

@kdm06c Yup, you're right on track. Two-day pity party, a week to feel like you're not so overwhelmed...You GOT this, girl!
@bowlwoman and @kdm06c - Thanks to you both! I'll spend some time looking through the old posts for ideas once I've pulled myself out of my pity party.
@VioletSkies Enjoy the wallowing. We'll be here when you're ready.
@bowlwoman now that I have added more protein that is pretty much what I have been doing. Sweet! I am now just worried about calories. I have been hitting about 1500-1700 a day and I'm worried it's not enough.
Go hog wild with butter and throw some nuts on everything. You'll make up the extra calories in no time!
That's usually what I do! & Bacon - glorious, glorious bacon! And i'm fully prepared after pregnancy for my glucose levels to normalize, but be told I have a cholesterol over 400. C'est la Vie!
@violetskies - Welcome! This is my first go round with both pregnancy in general & GD. I was also super overwhelmed and really bummed out at first, but once it all sinks in, its really not so bad. I promise.
So, my thumb obviously is where my sugar is stored because its readings are higher than all the other little fingers! The others are consistent with each other. Except for old fattie thumb! I think he's tossing out higher numbers, so I don't use him and he is saved from the prick.
Finally heard back from the endo today. Even though I am feeling more confident about the diet they still want me to see a nutritionist so Monday I have a one on one appt so I can actually bring the boys. Whew!

I want ALL of the chocolate chip cookies today. :-w
My sugars crashed about midnight last night, so I started shoveling in Ghiradelli milk chocolate chips to get my numbers back up. It was fabulous. And yes, today I want cookies too. I need to perfect a good almond meal cookie recipe, so we can have cookies with lower carb counts.

My pinky is the problem child for me. My thumbs are usually pretty good, but that pinky is too high almost every time. I'll test on a different finger right after, and I usually get a drop of about 10 points. Of course I take the lower number.
Thumb was being cranky this morning, but I did get the reading ok right at 95. I've been running in the 80s testing on my thumb since starting the meds, so we'll see how it goes tomorrow.
@bowlwoman I had slightly higher numbers the other day and I am totally blaming stress and a headache. We shall see if my endo agrees lol.
Also a question, because I am NOT googling it and haven't talk to my Dr about what all GD changes as far as extra appts etc. Every time I have talked to my mom she has mentioned being induced 2wks or so early with every GD pregnancy she had. Do they still induce early because of GD as long as your numbers, stress tests, and baby's size are ok? Definitely planning on asking my Dr on Wed as well, but ya know, I like medical advice from Internet strangers lol.

@kdm06c 39 weeks seems to be typical for gd inductions. However, if you remain diet controlled, some obs wont induce. Im interested what your doc's policy is. I never made it to my 38 wek appt to discuss with my ob. And I never brought it up before that because I didnt want to stress about a possible induction.
@erien my boys were born 10d and 9d early. I tend to dilate quickly around 38wks (was 6cm at my last appt with my first and was 5cm with my second). So I am not really worried about it, but was more curious since technology and standard practices have changed so much from 20yrs ago when my mom was pregnant.

@kdm06c With the girls, I was straight up GD. My OB let me go to 40w2d with DD1 because I really wanted to avoid an induction, but that was as long as he felt comfortable letting me go. We wound up inducing and it was fine.
With DD2, I wasn't so worried about the induction, so we scheduled at 38w5d because of his on-call schedule and that she was due on July 5 and I didn't want to be in the hospital over the holiday. I might get flamed for it, but it was a medical thing, not just a schedule one. We picked the best option at the time, and that was before the ACOG revised their estimates this summer.
ACOG last year (2013) stated that GD/type II moms should gestate until 39 weeks at least unless you have other medical problems (pre-e, HBP, poorly controlled diabetes, etc.) My OB said they used to recommend 38 weeks for type II moms, but he checked at my 26 week appointment and said they had revised the guidelines to 39 weeks for type II moms with controlled sugars. He didn't specifically say about GD moms, though, so that might be a question for your OB.
Ugh. I sent in my food logs last night and just got a call from my endo. She said overall my numbers were good, but too much carbs for snacks. She originally told me 30g for meals, and 30 for snacks for pregnant woman.. now she is saying 30g still for meals and closer to 15 for snacks... I am so confused and now really looking forward to my nutritionist appt on Monday to see how the heck I am suppose to eat healthy, keep my sugars in check, and eat enough calories to not lose weight. Just blah!
Thank you @bowlwoman! This makes me even more curious as to what my OB will say on Wed.

Fwiw, I lost weight in my third trimeater after starting the gd diet. I had gained 15 lbs in 28 weeks and lost 3 in the last trimester. So while the baby tripled in size, my weight dropped. My doc was never concerned.
15g for snacks?? Only 30 for meals??! Too strict imo. Do you check for ketones daily? My snacks are 30g with no protein required. Lunch is 45g and dinner is 60g (that many at dinner usually requires a walk before testing to keep in target).
Yeah, I'll be interested to see what @kdm06c 's nutritionist says. That diet is so super strict, you'd have to eat a rasher of bacon or a stick of butter every day to get the calories.
I lost maintained my weight during my third trimester with the girls, with the babies growing on schedule, so I effectively lost the same amount they gained for a net wash. My doctors aren't concerned either, since I have a history of doing it and the babies have always been growing on schedule.
@erien they have me checking my sugars 6 times a day that's it. She hasn't said anything about ketones.
I really can't wait to see what the nutritionist says @bowlwoman. I'm getting so frustrated because I really want some more GD recipes, but almost every recipe I find is usually 45-60g of carbs.
I was up 16lbs before starting the GD diet and I am already down 3. Of course some of that may be water weight. But yea. I am glad to know that it's common to lose. Yay for less baby weight to lose after right?!

I know with my personal history, I was able to go until 40 weeks with GD to see if I could go into labor naturally, and it just didn't work out.
Thank you @bowlwoman! This makes me even more curious as to what my OB will say on Wed.
