AG I'm at work and don't have time to read everything but shaming about her weight. I don't understand why we beat each other up over everything.

You beat me up over wearing leggings as pants. Hypocrite. :P

Here kiddo, it's a picture of a picture. Huh?
I take a picture and make photo albums online...I don't print out pictures like a scrapbook....because yes...a picture of a picture is silly. It all prints flat, like a real book. Also...when pp said BF shopping...it took me a shamefully long time to figure out what "breast feeding shopping" was. :0P
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that. Lol. I'm thinking "talk about multi-tasking!"

I think that the idea that doctors, including specialist, should just STFU and only address a problem you present to them is nuts.

If you look sick, or appear noticeably over or under weight, yeah, they should mention it and try to get to the root of it.  Even if it has nothing to do with why you showed up.

Five pages already; I know no one will care by now, but I really disagree with this (I know, shocker, right?). There are times when it's appropriate for a doctor to talk about your weight, and there a times when it's not. @Kimbus22 gave a perfect example. The problem with giving every doctor permission to harp on you about your weight is that it scares people away from getting medical care that they really need because they either feel like they're not being listened to or they're embarrassed and ashamed. When people dread getting a lecture at every appointment, whether it's their PCP or their dermatologist, they drag their feet and don't go in for preventative care. I'd personally much rather a doctor keep their mouth shut and assume that I already know how fat I am unless it is a contributing factor in whatever it is I went there for. Like, sure, if my mysterious chronic ankle pain is being caused in part by my weight, the podiatrist is within his rights to say something. Not so much if I just stubbed my toe and need to see how badly I broke it, you know?
I might buy this if Americans weren't generally slackers about preventative care.  Lots of times they are only in front of a doctor when there is a pressing issue.

It's not the only factor in that issue by a long shot, but I guarantee you it's not an insignificant thing for a lot of people.

My sumo wrestler kid is apparently what's preferred for babies.  Because babies with multiple chins are the ideal.  I wonder what age it switches at?

Yep I have learned skinny babies are looked down on. I had one person ask me if I fed him enough, another ask if I am sure is is 5.5 months (this is common) and yet another tell me how small he is. I do wonder what age fat becomes not cute or desirable anymore?
  • FTR he is above average height so not small just skinny.

So if when he get older and is still thin and shamed by others, are you going to tell him to shut up, it doesn't hurt as much as it does to be fat?

You are not so good at sarcasm are you? It didn't bother me whe he was "skinny shamed" and it didn't bother me when I was either. But people can keep making up words and terms to blame for their crappy self confidence. BTW there is ZERO comparison between "skinny"
    And fat shaming.

I'm confused. Was I not allowed to be pissed off when I was literally doing everything in my power to gain weight while people were constantly accusing me of having an eating disorder? You know, because I was skinny and should have just been happy with that?

Sure feel shitty but I have been both skinny and fat and you will never ever convince me they hurt the sane like not even fucking close.

    In your opinion.

BTW - I get that your comment was sarcastic and making light of skinny shaming since you don't agree with it.  I am pretty good at sarcasm as well.

  • It is everyone's desire to be skinny. It is what society has told us is right and healthy in turn we have been bombarded with messages that being fat is gross at every turn. So sorry of your "condition" that gets so much positivity from the press doesn't get pitty from me.

To be fair AG they are really shaming your for breastfeeding -- give that starving child some whole milk already!

True. We skipped whole milk because the jerk won't take a bottle and went right to ice cream.

So in BF shaming a thing?

Lol um okay. But yes you are right this is my OPINION and since we are in the unpopular OPINION post it seems I put it in the right spot!

I do not have the "condition" of skinny, as you put it, but nice try.  My point, as I stated upthread, is that shaming of any kind is not okay.  Period.

Okay I agree with you here but I still stand behind the fact it hurts more to be fat than skinny.

I 100% agree.  I live in a state with one of the LOWEST organized religion followings and one of the HIGHEST religious exemptions for non-vaccinating.  It is ridiculous.

And in all honesty you are entitled to your feelings and I think is awful that anyone has to hurt.  I am sorry that you were hurt so badly.  Truly.  I got defensive because my sister was hurt very badly as well and while it may be a situation that is not an common, it was very real and seeing how it affected her was very upsetting.  My sister bear instincts come out.

  • I hate the oils craze. It has become the go to answer for everything. Someone last night posted on Facebook how beat down she and her kid were by homework and honest to goodness, someone suggested oils. Good grief. Who knew oils could solve everything in the free world?? Oh wait, they can't.

I don't even know what you're supposed to do with essential oils. Smell them? Rub them on yourself? Eat them? I must be living in a cave because I hadn't heard of this trend yet. :\">

According to the oil crazies - all of the above.

When dd was trying to give up her nap someone gave me lavender oil to rub on her feet. True story- she screamed louder for the duration.

I got wrangled into going to one of the oil parties when DD was a baby. She started crying and the saleslady was like "Oh! Let me put this on her feet! It'll calm her down like you won't believe!" Yeah, she went into meltdown mode after the stuff was on her. Great selling point.

It depends on the oil. I have actually found that during really stressful times in life putting a few drops of lavendar oil and orange oil on my pillowcase actually did help me relax and fall asleep. And H and I have both used a tissue dabbed with eucalyptus oil (sniff it periodically) to help with a stuffy nose. But that's as far as I would ever go with essential oils. It's not a substitute for actual medical care, but good for little things like that.

So would you just apply the oil directly to the homework then?  :-)

Right?? She suggested "diffusing" it for "focus".

  • Essiential oils shouldn't be consumed. I use EOs for cleaning, keeping pests away, and in carrier oils. I use clove oil (not clove EO) in a carrier oil and use it for teething. It was fabulous when my wisdom teeth came in.

By consumed, I was told to put them in veggie capsules or certain ones in my water.

Interesting. I'm part of quite a few EO groups and have always heard/read it isn't safe to consume in water.

ETA: I have never heard of being put in veggie capsules.

Yep, lemon eo in the water to detoxify the liver. I can't remember what goes in the veggie capsules because I don't do it. I will say I did the Epsom salt, baking soda, lemon detox bath and broke out in hives all over.
