As a teacher I see all kinds of interesting ones: Alize (like the alcohol) Hypnotiq (like the alcohol), precious, someone I have worked with has had a Sexy before (seriously that should be illegal or something).
I can't believe nobody has sworn up and down that they know someone who named their kids lemonjello and orangejello or female, or some of the other urban legends. Well done, ladies.
In the work I do, I interact with a lot of the community pretty regularly and here are some of the gems that I've seen:
-Jyhashaylin (I'm not even sure how they pronounce it, they just call her Shay) -Ariiyanuh -Jenasys (I'm not sure if she just didn't know how to spell Genesis or what) -Sega (yes, like the video game system) -Paradyce (beautiful spelling, don't you think)

I have a few from my FB.

I'm surprised by how many people claim to know a Shithead. By the count here, you'd think Shitheads were running around all over the place!

I know. I was kind of giving that one the benefit of the doubt. I really haven't looked into that one much, but heard it was actually a legit name in some middle eastern cultures? I don't know if that's actually the case, but if it is I guess I can let that one slide lol.
My mom works in the hospital the best ones ive heard: Twin girls: oronjello yelojello ( orange and yellow jello) And a one woman last name king named her son :nosmo So his name is nosmo king if you spell it out its no smoking.
All i can say is these moms had to bed on some heavy duty drugs
At the end of the day everybody has their own reasons for naming their children what they do, just because something isn't exactly your first choice doesn't mean it is a bad name or that the child will suffer in later life. Surely the problem here is not the parents or individuals with unusual names, but the judgemental people who hear them and make a decision about that person without knowing them? Never judge a book by its cover, the text inside is what really matters.
IMO, the issue with this type of thinking is that a parent chooses a unique name bc they want the attention of having a unique name. They do not consider what type of person the child may grow up to be. What if your baby turns out to be an incredibly shy person sadled with a name that they are ridiculed for from preschool until a retirement home. You cannot control how society will view your name selection and why make a child (whose personality is unknown at birth) struggle with the challenges of a unique name for their entire life. To me choosing a name is such a serious decision and one where our top priority should be our baby, not our own desire to be unique or special.

These are all urban myths, either your mom is pulling your leg or you're making this up. Sorry
My husband is a teacher, he had a student named Specialty Bras (this was a very smart girl who he thought a lot of), a Lilwayne, lots of names with Queen added like Shaqueen/Laqueen, there's a lot more but I can't remember.
My mom used to work as a kindergarten aid. She said she knew a little boy named D'Handsome. She said he was always in D'Trouble. That cracked me up
Honorable mention: my friend is naming her child Christopher, which is totally normal and kosher. However, she's choosing to nickname him Topher. Like gopher. Or Stouffer's. I don't approve but whatever, at least the kid can go by Chris later on in his life if the teasing gets too terrible.
And just to emphasize the importance of picking a good name for your child:

Hah! My husband's friends jokingly nicknamed him Topher. Everyone has always called him Chris, but his mom is INSISTENT that his name is Christopher and always emphasizes the end of his name. She actually stood up at my bridal shower and announced that his name was ChrisTOPHER because my mom had put Chris on the cake.
This leads me to point out: don't name your kid something that has a nickname if you don't want them to go by a nickname. It will happen.

Yes - so important! At some point, you are going to lose control over what people call your kid. If there's a nickname you hate, think carefully before you choose the full name.
My husband and I are both in medicine and have come across some good ones, especially because we have to ask people to spell their names for additional identification.
Pronounced: Absidee, spelled "Abcde"
Pronounced: Little Joe, when asked to spell this name, mom said, "L-I-L, comma to the top, J-O-E. Lil'Joe was his legal name

I call urban legend on Abcde as well cause it seems everyone knows this kid as well
I think some terrible names start out as urban legends and eventually are heard by someone dumb enough to choose them for their child. I personally worked with a little Shithead while I was doing speech therapy in DC and one of my interns at another job had a sister named Absidy (alternate spelling for Abcde).
I was looking through our school district's enrollment today to pull some data and saw a girl named Brittonica. Like the encyclopedia but with a long "o." Not even close to the worst name ever, but...

I am also a teacher and have had some students with some interesting names. Like someone earlier posted, I've had a student named Special. I've also had a Precious, a Miracle, and last year, a Qwanteackquah. It took me weeks to learn how to spell that one!
Has anyone read/watched Freakonomics? I wish people would think of their child's future. When they apply for a job and an employer only sees their resume with their 'unique' name, it will be difficult to take that individual seriously. Names matter.
This. My sister is in HR. If she can't figure out how to say a name, they don't get a call.
Wow. That's a pretty horrible thing to do to people. I interview people all the time and if I can't pronounce a name, I just ask. It's mindboggling to me that someone would openly admit to doing that. Her behavior likely results in discriminating against a lot of people with different backgrounds than her.
Guys I got a confession. I love the name pepper! And clover is on our list... I am aware that this is unpopular on this board and I've accepted it:) I won't be asking for any opinions that's for sure!
Lol I love the name pepper too although I won't be naming my child that. About boys names for girls: my daughter is named Cameron and I know it was a boys name but Ashley, Carol, and my name which is Kelly as well as scores of others were once thought of as boys names. Some end up changing and I think Cameron is starting to enter that category. However, I'm still anti as far as obvious male names for girls
@aylacbw - we may have similar taste in names! I like Pepper and Clover, although they were not on our list. Willow - which I see as similar was on our top 5 girls names. I see many nature names as old fashioned names, like Ruby and Pearl.
We are having a boy and naming him Grey (nn for Greyson).
I went to high school with a Princess Yah-Unity Israel. She went by Yah-Unity. Also a Jazzmann, Cinnamon (She changed her name from Kayla), To'Nia, Precious, Katelane,Lateef, Chance, Chanelle,... I went to an arts magnet school so there was lots of special going on.
My husband had a a client with grandchildren named Tuezdai (pronounced "Tuesday") and Tomorrow. He had to write out the names on a form. Seems like they spent all their creativity on spelling the former and gave in on the latter.
This isn't terrible, but some hillbilly cousins gave their kid a name which initials out to KKK. Still can't decide if they're racist or just ignorant.
My 6th grade teacher had two girls- one named LaDreama and the other was La-a...(LaDasha).
Also knew a girl named Xochitl (pronounced So-Shee)...
This has already been covered but it's a pet peeve of mine; La-a is an urban myth you can look it up. I call bs that you've ever met a child with this name

Which is Spanish for perfect.
And a friend of mine named her son Rufus Lovelace , that does sound like a love song DJ name though, maybe he will be on the radio someday

To'Nia makes me think of toenail.

Wow! I didn't know that! It's... Complicated to read and spell :P
