DH is back in school for his last semester.  We planned our IVF this way so that he would graduate soon before or just after a baby might be born.  I know each semester our finances get cut in half until he's out again and to expect it, but I'm having a minor panic attack today.  Our bills are covered, it just gets tight.  Maybe it's because I'm thinking about all the things we need to get to prep for a baby?  We're okay, but I'm hyperventilating a little today and that's uncharacteristic of me.  Just had to vent.
DH gets some GI benefits for his masters... but he is also still working full time as well. hang in there hon!

  • Lol @dacora I guarantee you'll change that time if you can next year when you have a little one napping in the middle of the day. Lol I just have a negative connotation to those lawn people.. they broke my window last year and tried to run before I could confront them about it. Luckily I was sitting in the room where the window broke when it happened or I would of never known what actually happened.
Oh boo!! What a bunch of jerks!
AND miracle upon miracles, Ella did not wake up and is still sleeping!! Oh happy day!! :D

  • @jaztastic - DH gets some GI funding for tuition too, so I really can't complain.  He has just one more semester and he'll be done.  I rationally know that we're also paying more on some of our debt than we have to and putting a little away, but in my brain we don't touch that.  I guess we got that first paycheck where he's gone back down to part-time and I have to readjust.  Honestly, I am so thankful that we are in a position to just feel squeezed and he can finish.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes ladies! :-) it's brightening my day quite a bit. Especially after the bomb that was just dropped on me.

Last week I went for an interview for an internship and was told yesterday that I was in the second round of interviews. Today, I get an email telling me that after new information being brought to their attention, they have decided to drop me from the list of potential candidates. I called them to ask why and they had told me that they called my current boss for a recommendation and that she gave me a less than unsatisfactory review. She read the letter to me, that was faxed to them, that stated I was lazy, scatter brained, and that my job performance had seriously taken a dive since getting pregnant.

This is coming from the very same woman who, just yesterday, said that I was doing a remarkable job and that she was really happy with my performance. What. The. Fuck?

My boss literally sabotaged a potential job for me! I never thought she would go this far! I am completely flabbergasted and lost for words.........awesome.........

  • @StephanieLBerg sounds like your boss sucks at life!  I hate that, that's a terrible thing to do to someone.  Hugs!   >:D<

  • Happy birthday, @StephanieLBerg‌! I'm sorry your boss is a huge douche nugget.

I haven't seen @HerHighness‌ in a bit either. I miss her well timed snark. I hope everything is going well with her sister.

Good news! Baby shopping went better than expected. DH understood why we needed to see all types of double strollers to decide what was beat for us when we got there and in his highly decisive man way delayed that we need the baby trend sit and stand double eclipse. I'm going with it because it's pretty much what I want anyway. Afterwards we checked the cribs and as I went to leave he wanted to check out the monitors and breast pumps! He wanted to make sure I had a good pump again. DS got a terrible haircut. She tried really hard to fix but he has a bald spot the size of a dime now and I wouldn't let his hair go any shorter. Then DH made my day by saying the magical words "let's make chili". So now DH started the chili in the crock pot and I get to relax!

Most employers wont give bad references because you could actually sue them for that. I dont know how big your company is, but Ive found that its just common for HR to confirm employment and position. They can give mediocre comments, but down right bad reviews open them up to litigation.

    Happy birthday @StephanieLBerg‌ !!

I love chili! Do you mind sharing the recipe or do you just use any off the web? @jennwilhoite‌

  • @angelg3134‌ We are super simple when it comes to chili. We buy the McCormick mix and then throw ground beef, ground sausage, kidney beans, black beans, chili beans, diced tomatoes and diced onion in the crock pot for at least 6 hours. Depending on how we feel and how long we can let it cook we add in a good beer too. I like to top mine with cheese and oyster crackers (DH doesn't) but it always turns out well.

  • That sounds pretty easy! I've tried making chili before but it doesn't have a kick to it! I'll probably try this on the weekend since the latest craving has been chili and baked potatoes! And if I add in the beer maybe my SO WILL FINALLY like it. Lol Thank you! @jennwilhoite‌

  • Anytime, @angelg3134‌. If the spicy mix doesn't do it for you, you may want to try habaneros. DH always makes his own extra spicy pot.

This. At my old job, my office was right next to HR so I became friends with our HR guy. Me told me he isn't actually allowed to give bad references, and that he only ever verifies employment.

My due date is Feb 25 and I still don't understand the point of the thread. It's the most boring thread ever. Just a bunch of people chiming in with their due date and "me too!"

@StephanieLBerg‌ Happy Birthday, but so sorry about your boss :(

My day is definitely better than yesterday! My students from last year (now seniors) all found out I'm pg, and wow are they excited! It's spreading through other teacher's classrooms and I'm hearing it from them! They wouldn't be so excited if they didn't like me as a teacher, right? It really is a good feeling today :)

due dates really dont mean much. my daughter was two weeks early. everyones kid could be early or late why put so much emphasis on a specific date instea of the overall month. idiots.

  • @jaztastic‌ @CatLadyTX‌ we don't have an HR. She is HR because she owns the company. We only have 3 employees including myself. And sadly, Nevada doesn't give a crap about anything negative going on in the labor force, only positives. My mom just thinks I should continue to look for something else and just ask any nee potential employers not to call her because she and I aren't "seeing eye to eye on some things". Unfortunately its still a paycheck, which we still need, even though hubby found a better paying job recently. He wants me to just quit, but unfortunately, I just can't right now given our current financial status.
    BabyFetus Ticker
  • @StephanieLBerg‌ that is a rough situation. I can tell you that my HR buddy did give people who said "no" to to contacting a former employer the side eye. He was more understanding when it was a current employer though, especially if there was a reason given.

  • @nomnomasaur0426‌ @Cookie0875‌ Exactly, I agree she does suck at life, and yes I too worry about if they are being fake with me. Its nerve wracking! I would think, if she truly wasn't happy with me, then why praise me ine day, and douche on me the next? It doesn't make any sense other than she's trying to just be pure evil! She has got some serious mental issues! Its getting difficult to distinguish between genuine nice her, and the demon spawn of satans ass her.
    BabyFetus Ticker
  • @CatLadyTX‌ normally I would be giving the side eye to those types of comments too, but yes it is different when its a current employer. I just wish I knew what the root of her evil is so I could do something about it.

@musicgirl524‌ That's kinda what I asked of this new potential employer, and they said they understood, but I don't know what happened. Maybe they didn't remember that I asked them not to. Who knows...all I can say is that I am glad I have two days off starting tomorrow because honestly, I am afraid I might scream at her if I see her.

  • My mother is a former employment paralegal.  Legally when confirming employment you are only allowed to confirm hire dates, leave dates (if they are no longer working), and if you had the opportunity to re-hire would you.  Anything else is actually illegal.  No matter how big the company is.  If they are registered and paying taxes they have to abide by these laws.  I would seek legal advice.  there are several free legal advice places to find.  Also many lawyers only take payment if you win anything. You might not even have to go to court just have a lawyer draft up a letter and it may put a stop to the things that have been happening.

  • I had the boss from hell for 3 years.  She was aweful.  There is not enough space to write the shit that she did.  We all got laid off when business was bad.  My HR manager had a ton of dirt on her.  When she laid us all off she just basically threw us out on the st with nothing.  My HR manager emailed her a letter in regards to all the shit she did and no joke no more than 2 days later I got a phone call.  She gave me 6 months severance pay and 1 full year of health insurance. One of my co-workers who put up with her for almost 15 years got 2 1/2 years pay and 5 years of health insurance.  It was crazy.  Maybe your boss will let up if she feels threatened.

Agree with what everyone is saying about how it is illegal to give a bad recommendation. You could sue probably for a few things (defamation, loss of wages etc) but I don't know how invested you are in all if that. I think your strategy of asking potential employers not to call her is ok (albiet possibly side-way-glance inducing) so it will be all about the wording. You can go with how you two aren't seeing eye to eye, you could explain that you are a two income household and do not want to alert your current employer of your search until you secure something. But the best way would be if you still have a good relationship with whoever employed you prior to that and you could send the call to them. That way you can still have someone speak to your skills and they will glance over the current employer more easily.
