Severe baby acne?

Is anyone else dealing with severe baby acne? I'm thinking DD may even have eczema. She has all these large, rough, red blotches all over her face and upper back. I think it's really bothering her. I can see some flaky skin on her face too. When I burp her over my shoulder, she rubs her face back and forth on the burp cloth like she's itching it. My mom suggested putting nipple cream on her face since lanolin is supposed to help. I'm going to call the pedi tomorrow. I think all this is contributing to her crankiness lately. Here is a pic of it and I think it even looks mild here.

It looks like it is on her ears - my doctor said that the only one that presents on the ears is seborrhea, and that's cradle cap. The way you're describing it with the flaky patches sounds like it too. My DD has it as well...I'm just using soap and warm water and waiting.

She does have flaky ears too. I put a little body lotion on her earlobes and that helped a little. She has a bit of cradle cap that I've been combing off her scalp. I'm definitely going to keep washing her face with warm water. Thanks :-)

If it is eczema lanolin could make it worse. Lots of people have allergic reactions to lanolin- especially if they already have other skin conditions (it's made from wool oil). So just to be safe I think you're right to ask your pedi.

Awe poor little munchkin. I would definetly ask your pedi. I have eczema and can't use lanolin because it makes it worse. My LO had acne on her face and we used BM on a cotton ball and it worked great. You could try that if your BF, but definitely ask your pedi.

I've heard about using breast milk and I'm about to try it. Do you wash it off after applying it? Does she just stay milky until a bath?

I've used breast milk. Just left it on till bathing. For cradle cap on the scalp with DD Pedi said to put baby oil on the scalp 15min before bath and let it sit, after the bath brush in all different directions. She also suggested using dilluted head and shoulders.

Leave it on. Let her stay milky until you bathe her as a PP said. It can't hurt to try!

My baby has been covered face, ears and neck with a terrible rash, baby acne or hear rash. She doesn't seem bothered by it, it just looks terrible. A LO I babysit has eczema and his mom really likes the Aveeno products to treat it.

DD started getting little bumps on her belly and back not red though. Pedi said not to use aveeno because that actually dries it out but to use aquaphor. Worked like a charm.

California baby calendula cream! I will recommend the stuff to anyone. LO has sensitive skin and it seems everything dries her skin out to the point I'm sure it's painful. Since we started using the cream on her 2-3 times a day, I've noticed a drastic difference. I also can tell if I forget to put it on.

OP, I'm sorry she's dealing with it and I hope the medicine helps! She's beautiful!

For those of you mentioning cradle cap, my pedi said to wash her head with a little Selsun Blue! It worked great and hasn't come back! Just make sure to only use a tiny bit- I was scared it wouldn't come off easily and rinsed her head for a crazy long time!
