  • Confession: I kinda wish that the UO thread was set up so that people could only post their UO and not reply to others.  It feels like no one is can express an opinion without ten people jumping in to tell them why they are wrong.

FFS, it's an opinion.  They are allowed to differ.

OK I'm going to go hide (work) now.

RinnyBee I'm glad you think so, because I feel terrible for lying about it, but I really do have good reasons. Oddly enough it's NOT so I'll have an earlier due date, I had inductions with my last 3 and am considering just waiting to go into labor on my own this time if we can make sure care for my youngest will be secured. With the issues and concerns we had with my last ones size(born at 9lb8oz) I don't want this one to start out measuring ahead before we are even out of the gate :) I need it to be as accurate as possible.
    Due with #5 April 22, 2015. It's a girl!!!!!

Yes it was planned, yes we know what causes that, no we are not on public assistance, and yes we will be getting cable after this. ;)

  • I've never been a very emotional person. My friends growing up called me heartless because nothing could ever make me cry.

Fast forward to being a mom. It is pretty rare for me to feel emotions when DD cries. I mean, the head knowledge is there that she is sad and needs help but I don't struggle with also feeling sad when she cries.

I have no idea if that's common or not. I just remember so many friends asking me "doesn't it just break your heart when she cries???" I would think "errr...should it? Maybe I should just nod and smile so they don't think I'm broken..."

  • I never hand down any of DS clothes. A lady at church came up to me about a year ago saying her dil was having a baby boy and she wanted all of DS's clothes. I smiled at her and never said anything back. I never met the lady, have no clue who she is. But that is not the issue here. I will happily hand them down once I'm done with them. I don't want to give everything away and then have to buy it all for baby # 2.
However, if we're having a girl now I will start giving some away, because I know it's gonna be a while until we go for baby number 3.

I'm planning to lie to my OB about when my last period was.

(OK, hear me out before you jump my shit.) I have have short cycles, and I was charting so I know exactly when I ovulated, so I know my calculated due date should be April 22, not April 26th based on ovulation, which is obviously more accurate. That said my OB won't change due dates unless they are a week off. Telling him my last period was about 4 days earlier than it actually was means all my tests and scans will be more accurate because it will be based on my ovulation date, and since I have big babies, we can measure based on actual gestational age rather than baby automatically measuring 4 days bigger(+/- the range of error on the actual scans) than due date based on LMP.

In short, I'm making sure my Dr. has the right answers without arguing about whether or not 4 days is worth changing the date over. Just easier this way.
I've considered doing the same thing @ScarletOFlaherty! It's a four day difference for me too.  Last time when I explained that I was temping and using OPKs they allowed me to use my O date...oddly enough I went into labor naturally and DS was born on his EDD, which doesn't happen often.  My first appt. is today and if they don't go by my O date I'll probably throw a hissy fit.  I know 4 days isn't the end of the world, but if I know for sure (which I do) why would they use less accurate info??

You will be fine! I don't feel like I'm any less competent at mothering, and sometimes I feel like it can even help me take a real look at the situation instead of being clouded by emotions. I mostly just feel weird admitting it to people because I'm under the impression that most people aren't this way.

  • I've been so exhausted and never in the mood to DTD. I agreed to take care of DH last week and I pretty much fell asleep during. sexy.
  • I got annoyed at my ultrasound tech when she announced I have a healthy pregancy. Of course I was happy and relieved too, but nothing bugs me more than that term. Pregnancy is something my body goes through. I'm pretty sure I won't be giving birth to a pregnancy next April! It's a baby now too for goodness sake.

  • Nobody likes a grammar fiend, but every time I read, "balling my eyes out" or, "low and behold" I die a little inside. You BAWL your eyes out. Bawl means cry. To "ball" is to shot call. To have 20" blades on your Impala. And LO and behold, a carryover phrase from more archaic forms of english may be hard to explain as easily, but it loses meaning when you change it to "low". While Lil Jon might appreciate you getting low to behold something, it does not mean what you think it means. (I feel better now.)
I have just recently seen a new one start to crop up. Some baby wearers have started to talk about babies that are being "warn".

    On the grammar discussion....

WHY oh why, do people use the word "Irregardless"?
This is one of DH's biggest pet peeves. Our friends use the word all the time just to annoy him.

Any English language scholar worth his or her salt will tell you that common usage actually plays a HUGE role in what is acceptable. Language evolves, which is why most people who read Chaucer in his original words have no clue what they are reading.

As for this specific example, nauseous was actually used earlier than nauseated in this context. So it's even accurate historically, if that is how you define proper English.

I am all about good grammar, and I totally used to be that person taking a red pen to other people's posts. Then I realized you can spend your life worrying about things like that (and probably feeling more smug than you ought to), or you can move on. Personally, I chose to move on. I don't have time to worry about stuff like that. If you do, more power to you I guess.

    Also, regarding nauseous vs. nauseated:

    https://i.word.com/idictionary/nauseous

People who get smug over this irritate me to no end. Nauseous is not incorrect.

No one ever said they "worry" about it. When it's an obvious misuse of a word or an obvious incorrect spelling, people can still notice it and be annoyed by it. It's just like a pet peeve. Do you not have any?

Of course I do. I believe I referred to one in my post :-)
  • UOs and FFFC would be so boring if no one could respond.

Ok these acronyms were not listed!?! Help!

  • Personally, I chose to move on. I don't have time to worry about stuff like that. If you do, more power to you I guess.

How much time do you think it takes out of my day to think, "ugh, wrong word" when I read a phrase that was written incorrectly?

  • I try to allow for typos and such, especially in social media where it's an informal environment. It still bugs me but I don't point it out, unless the person is being an utter douche, like @somerandomchick said. I do point it out in work emails though. We are supposed to be professionals. If you send an email stating "There was no collections that day," I will jump your case.

For my FFFC: After discussing dentist trips yesterday, I think I have to confess I still go to a pediatric dentist because he is nice and doesn't hurt me. DH goes too because we are huge wimps. haha I'm pretty sure we are the oldest patients in his practice.
