I hate Panorama's guts. EVEN MORE.

I had my fetal DNA test drawn one week ago at exactly 9 weeks. My doc does Panorama Progenity, which can be done...starting at 9 WEEKS. I went in today to make sure the baby's ok after my horrible illness last week and they told me that Panorama won't even try to run the test because it will be "inconclusive." Apparently they can't find enough fetal DNA in my blood. They say that this happens with heavier women, and I'm barely over 100 lbs. I just don't get why this happened. I'm so upset that I have to wait yet another extra week to find out whether this baby is chromosomally normal. I'm so worried and I don't know how much longer I can take it! :( Anybody else have this happen??

ETA different word

ETA #2: UPDATE. EFFING EFFERS EFFED UP AGAIN. So, I called my doctor today to make sure that the sample I had drawn last week didn't get rejected again. Nope, not rejected - CANCELED! Because they figured that, one week later, it was the same original sample from the day they claim was too early. So not only did I have to call my doctor to find out about this, I STILL don't have test in progress! I can't even express how angry I am at my lazy doctor's office for not calling me and how angry I am at Panorama for being so unbelievably incompetent. Honestly, I wouldn't trust any results I did get back from them. I don't even know what to do at this point. Try another lab for another test and bypass my doctor? I think that's my plan. After I finish feeling stabby.

I'm really sorry this happened. I wonder why they told you it was ok to have it drawn so early? My MW told us that we should wait until 11 weeks because fetal DNA sometimes isn't enough to prove either way on test results.

  • Aww. No experience, but I totally get the having to wait thing. I had a blood test drawn for something and they told me in a voicemail the next week that the blood had been exposed to oxygen and they'd have to draw it again...I was mad and declined the test. :P

  • I've had to have redraws for my regular lab work before, and that's no big deal, but I'd be annoyed about having to wait another week. I had my blood drawn for Panorama at 10 weeks, and the fetal DNA fraction was still pretty low (6.4%, I think).

  • Do you have any reason to think you will have an issue with the results. I'm sorry you have to wait but I wouldn't worry as much as you can.

I don't really have any logical reason to believe there will be an issue. I'm just nervous because of my previous miscarriage - my doc said the ultrasound looked like the last baby was probably chromosomally abnormal because the yolk sac was enormous, and then he/she didn't survive. ...And I'm a worrier.

  • From how you described it, sounds like you should talk to your doctor about offering the test at a time that was potentially too early to get results. That stuff frustrates me too, but I would try to focus on the fact that getting this information at 11 weeks is still incredibly early. My daughter is only 15 months and these tests were not even around when I was pregnant with her.

  • I'm sorry. My doctor said they don't test until 12 weeks because there isn't enough DNA earlier than that.

  • This kind of scares me/bums me out because I just had my Panorama blood draw on Monday at 9w5d and no one mentioned anything about the concentration possibly not being high enough at that point.  WOMP.

  • That stinks!!! I had mine drawn at 9weeks and 4 days and just got results yesterday, I guess everyone's concentration of fetal DNA is different....I don't blame you for being bummed!!
  • Sorry you are so stressed! The build up to an appt is worse for me so I know if I had to reschedule it would be doubly hard.
No experience just sympathetic. FX things look great at your next draw!

Yes it sucks when there is a brand new breakthrough technology that can give you information not available to pregnant women even two years ago. Patience is important. It's frustrating to wait, but most women won't know if baby is healthy until the anatomy scan or even birth.
Seriously, sarcasm unnecessary. I realize that this is a luxury. I didn't know about the sex or health of my 19-month-old daughter until much later - birth, actually. I know what it's like to wait that long and I'm not taking this test for granted. The reason I posted this is two-fold - 1) to potentially deter other moms from having their blood drawn too soon, and 2) to express my concern with being left behind for a week when I've been very anxious about getting reassurance considering the probable reason for my recent miscarriage. I really appreciate the supportive comments, ladies! Thanks!

I don't think being AMA (I assume you are OP) and having this test done is a luxury. It's pretty great that we have the medical advances that we do and we are certainly paying for them. I think it's being an informed older mother and being concerned enough to pay $200 out of pocket to find out about potential genetic problems.

  • I guess my OP update didn't repost this. But, I dunno, some people might want to know. Even though I'm pretty much as early as it gets around this board!

  • It took 2.5 weeks to get my Panorama results back so 2 weeks total for 2 different tests is not bad at all.

  • vrj0522,  it's not 2 weeks for 2 tests. It's 4.5 weeks for 3 tests. I was supposed to have the results by tomorrow at the latest, now I have to wait until at least 2 weeks from this Friday. It IS bad. Everybody's posting their awesome results and I'm just like, "Ok, and then there's me, who can't get a blood draw to go through to save my life!" Pity party for 1. ;) I think the hormones are making me a little crazy about this…but OMG the WAIT!

  • I understand your frustration and I think I would feel the same way.  I hope they are able to get it all straightened out for you soon!  I just had my Mat21 drawn last Friday and I'm waiting to get my results back and the wait is killing me so I can imagine how you feel this many weeks later.

  • That's really annoying. When you're waiting on news about something like this, even one or two weeks seems to take forever. I wonder if your doctor's office mislabeled the new sample or something.

Sorry, this really sucks. I wonder if it is your doctor or the panorama people that is screwing this up.

  • I completely understand your frustration.  I had mine drawn at 12 weeks, called the doc 9 days later and they told me there wasn't enough DNA from the baby.  So I retested, now 14 weeks tomorrow and won't have the results for a least another week  I know it is still really early to be getting this great info but it doesn't change the frustration level.

Meh. I had the Maternit21 done at 9w6d and it was fine.
Well, meh.  I went back to the doctor today for my routine progesterone draw and was told that I need to have Panorama redone for the same reason as the OP mentioned.

Omg, seriously? That's terrible! I'm having the same issue with my doc's office, where they don't even bother to call me to tell me about a problem. Gosh, 12 weeks though…that's really a bummer. FX they're speedy with your results!

This makes me nervous. We had ours drawn at 11weeks 4 days...
