Is it bad I have "A boy named Sue" in my head now?
Yeah I totally get what you mean... We definitely have a long way to go with universal equality.
The sport topic is interesting. I think we are the same page there. I love sports, as a spectator and a player because I do! Sometimes I do feel, however, that we as girls get competitive, attention hungry, Etc and use interests to one-up each other in the eyes of men. And THAT nonsense sets both genders back. I knew a girl in college like that, who was so compelled to show she watched Sports Center before meeting up with the guys that she looked like a desperate idiot in her attempt to distance herself from the girls and be one of the guys. They saw through that and judged her for her desperation.
Multiple meanings... Ive heard surfboard referred to having a bald eagle, and surfing used to refer to the woman being on top position.
HUH?
bald vagina, bare board, smooth pussy... lol

Does this board really have a lot of rules? I know, in the very beginning, where there were 1000 different threads about symptoms, and then nub theories, that we really directed people towards the daily posts...but I think a lot of that has calmed down, no? I feel like the daily spam/random threads are just for random thoughts and ongoing conversation that you have throughout the day. I post what I ate for lunch, or if I splurged on more donuts, or if there were free hotdogs in the building (like today, yay!)...but none of those topics are really thread worthy IMO. I know the OP in the name thread was kind of directed to the baby names board, but that's just because they're the experts. I still think it was ok to talk about it.
I do want to know if we're (the board, in general) being too board police-ey, though, because the intent was to avoid the multiple threads about the same topic...not genuine discussions that people want to have.
I agree. I don't want people to feel like they can't start discussions.
The only "rules" I've noticed are: 1) make an effort not to be repetitive by checking to see if a topic had been discussed 2) be part of the community or don't expect all of us to do everything or care about your issues 3) don't get offended over negative opinions because you will get them and no one is going to be hold your hands to save your feelings
From Beyonce's 'Drunk in Love' song. She pronounces 'surfboard' as 'surfbort' and people take humor from this. It is a Beyonce-ism and sounds funny so has been adopted by the Beyhive as a joke/humorous word. Has been made into t-shirts by various Beyonce fans.
"Then I fill the tub up halfway then ride it with my surfbort surfbort, surfbort"
"Beyonce has redefined the word surfboard to surfbort"

I don't see them as rules. More like common sense.

For me. That's what the random post thread has done. I don't have time to read allllllll the posts that are already there by noon (when I'm able to check the board), to decide if I want to comment. My opinion is that having multiple/more threads allows people to read what they want, comment on what they want and bypass the rest. Whereas, with one post, I feel like my only choice is to read EVERYTHING and then decide what to comment on and what I want to post. I just don't have time to read through 5 pages. I didn't even read all the UO's today before I posted... Just decided it was time to get my thoughts out there.
Looks like I spoke too soon. Thanks for coming back, @Kristi&Chad2010.
I think multiple threads are fine, as long as you know you'll get ignored if it's too random to get people to respond.
Like I said, I skim the spam/random thread because I have a busy job and can't keep up, too. But the random thread is just FUN because it can get so zany. I actually would encourage you to skim it and post whatever the hell random stuff you want. I guarantee someone will end up paging you with a response sooner rather than later.
ETA: Testing to see if I can't fix the page! (Nope. Ampersand doesn't like me.)

People need to get the hell out of their feelings and pay closer attention to what us regulars are saying.
We are NOT stopping anyone from posting. Nor are we discouraging you from posts and participating in the board. We are simply asking you to pay attention to what has already been posted.
Example of BS: "Well that was short lived" thread.... WTF was the point of posting an entire new thread for that? And then not to further explanation... absolutely ridiculous.
4 different posts within 2 days about weight
I think I saw 4 posts within days of each other asking about feeling the baby move
Now granted sometimes I feel the board can be a little unfair to those due towards the end of the month, because those of due earlier get to AW our announcements, AW the sex, AW ultrasounds etc first... but then after like the 10th one, we are all a little tired of seeing them (until its our turn to post one.) but by then we are like "use this thread"
But seriously, imagine a telemarketer calling your house every hour trying to sell your something. First couple times you are nice and say thanks but no thanks or at least hear them out. Then sure, caller ID and all you could ignore the calls, but eventually you are going to answer and be like STOP FUCKING CALLING MY HOUSE. Thats what the repeat posts are like to those of us who spend a lot of time on here.
You dont have to read ALL the responses on the random thread. Post your randomness and skim the rest or move on entirely. Or post a new thread but be accepting of the gifs and snark if you get it.

We can only give you the benefit of the doubt if you post. You're sad people won't know you, but you just have to start posting. Take the chance--the board is going to respond how it's going to respond, but don't let it get to you. Like I said, I bet you end up interacting with people.

I'm not trying to start a war here. I think the bottom line is that some people prefer the randoms in one thread whereas others prefer them in separate threads. I dont care if no one responds to my posts. My experience with my old BMB was that it was a free for all for thoughts. Sometimes people respond and sometimes people dont. But no one got their feelings hurt one way or the other. It also seems to me that the people that prefer everything in one thread may be speaking louder than those who dont. If I want to make a random post that annoys some people, is it really worth mentioning that it bothers you, or can you just move past it? if there are a lot of posts about a certain topic, and you dont want to be included in the discussion, then dont respond.
At this point, I think both sides of the argument are being nit picky. it does make for a good UO though. Can we agree to disagree and be rainbows and unicorns again? (i'm being serious)

Brad and Angelina getting married is not push notification news.
100% agree. I have the US weekly app on my phone and half the stuff I get notifications about I couldn't careless about. In fact half the stuff they report is stupid...someone's new haircut is not news!

Honestly I don't really care what people post, but sometimes if they are to random I feel like I missed something. Like today, I read your 2 discussions and all I could think of was did I miss something? I read the title "that didn't last long" and instantly thought, OMG did we have another loss on the board, and then I opened it and was just confused. Same thing with the "I'm proud I didn't want to punch someone" post. It was just confusing.

That's fine. I think the point is that people were saying they felt like they couldn't make new threads, and we all want people to make threads if they have something legitimate to discuss.
Be honest, if there were 10 threads on the first page asking us to guess a nub, that wouldn't annoy you?

It would not annoy me. I'd just scroll past it. But I can see how it would annoy others.

I like that there are set places for certain things. Why? Because if the board is drowning with the same 4 or 5 threads started 4 or 5 times each then some more serious questions or real struggles people face may get pushed to the wayside because no one will see them.
Nub threads and fb announcements are great but I'd rather go to one place to live them so that mom's who need real help about their previous ED or things like that. I also think that if people go through old threads and resurrect them as opposed to starting a new one they will get great info that may not be repeated.
I agree with whoever said it sucks for those of us due at the end of the month bc we're behind everyone on symptoms, ultrasounds, etc. I'm due Feb 28th, but will have a repeat c/s so it'll be the week before, but I feel behind sometimes. Not that that's anyone's fault, just saying.
Also, I never read the spam thread, the randomness didn't appeal to me. Should I??
The random thread is usually just talking back and forth. More chit chat. It helps to get to know people but there's usually not anything earth shattering if you don't read it ( except if course when chicken informs us what she ate for lunch). Stuff like what you're plans are, food that sounds good, that sort of thing
I may have eaten too much candy today. I really need to get a hold of myself.
My husband bought me a bag of Starburst last night after I mentioned I had a craving. I've gone through almost all of it at this point and my stomach feels like its full of rocks
I also have gone through quite a few Starburst today.

Dolce only makes appearances on the random threads... so thats pretty earth shattering!

I see this more as an issue of where you are choosing to get your news from, try switching that app out with the New York Times.
@bhjones trust me I don't use US weekly as my news source! I do have other more reliable news sources on my phone as well I didn't even remember that Brad and Angelina weren't married.
I tooottally agree. People always say my husband looks like him and when the notebook first came out he got approached at the mall allllll the time by girls asking if he was Ryan Gosling, I have never seen it and if I did see it, I probably wouldn't have ever dated him.
