spamalicious wednesday

Why hello there friends. What's up with you today.

Random QOTD do you blow dry your hair everyday?

Brought to you by the person who blows dries her hair in bed.

Re: spamalicious wednesday

  • I never blow dry my hair... I am lazy.  It is also pin straight and fine.

DISCLAIMER: this is in no way meant to re-hash any baby shower debates, I have my opinions on the topic that are not being changed.

Anywho, now that we know we are team pink I am really worried my MIL is going to want to throw me another shower, and I REALLY do not want one.  My SIL had three, one for each her boys who were born 18-20 months apart each... eye roll

So I do not know how to tell her NO, without causing family drama, if I tell her I think second showers are tacky, it will hurt SIL feelings.  And my MIL is very easy to offend and cause drama with.

    Ugh.

  • Nope. I have a lion's mane so I only wash and style 2 days a week. I may touch up with a flat iron in between.. And after a couple days I go from straight to flat iron curls but my wet-walk out the door time is 1.5 hours on my high maintenance mid-back length hair. Ain't no body got time for that.

Maybe just tell her, "Second showers are not really something I am interested in....at all. I think they are unnecessary."  Let her know you have everything you NEED. If family wants to buy baby gifts, then let them. I do think they have that right, but as far as a party/shower goes, that is your decision to say no.

My hair is baby fine, cut into a short inverted bob and has to be blow dried & styled if I want to look presentable. It's frizzy & limp if left to air dry on its own. So if I know I have things to do out of the house, it will get blow dried with round brushes to straighten it. Otherwise it's a mess.

  • My hair is impossible! Wavy, thick and frizzy! Most days it goes in a pony tail unless i want to style it, then I blow dry and straighten.
  • I don't blow dry every day, too much work. Maybe every third day if I'm motivated.
Awaiting our bundle of cute chaos.

  • I'm with @erobbins09‌ -- my hair sees shampoo a max of 2 times per week (maybeeeee 3). I have a thick mop of curly hair. I wear it curly or straight, but if I actually take the time to straighten it, you better believe I'm not washing it! Thank god for dry shampoo :)

  • @kkleigh10‌ there is such a variety in brands for dry shampoo. I'm really liking one that I found at target-- I think it's "Not your mother's." It definitely does not make my hair look flowy and freshly blowed out but it at least looks clean :) I use it either in the AM but have heard that you should actually spray it just on your roots at night before bed and then style in the morning.

  • I guess I am in the minority as I have to wash my hair every day or look like a slob. I don't blow dry it everyday I actually avoid it if I can. But it definitely works better if I do.

@kkleigh13‌ I was recommended batiste dry shampoo and have been relatively pleased. My hair is super oily so most don't actually work well with my hair. This one works in a pinch.

  • I wear a pixie cut. I usually shower at night, air dry and then style in the morning. If randomly I shower in the morning, I have to dry it or I end up looking like a member of the Beatles ...
  • I do wash my hair every day, but in the summertime I only dry it 1 or 2 times a week. The other days I put product in it, scrunch it, and let it dry wavy. In the wintertime I blowdry pretty much every day, I just can't be bothered in the summer with the humidity and we don't have a/c.
I got a chin length layered haircut a couple months ago and I freakin LOVE it!! I wore my hair long forever, but it's thin and fine and I was never happy with it- I wish I had gone short sooner! It's so easy to style now and it looks way better.

I had a terrible nightmare and woke up crying in the middle of the night, totally freaking out DH. Good sleep seems like Impossible now a days. :(

  • 98% of the time my hair is in a bun/ponytail.  I have long, thick and non pretty curly hair.  I've given up (i work from home some days so that is part of it) If i blow dry my hair it takes at least an hour.  I do it maybe once a month...ok maybe every other month.

@bhjones1980 can you play the with the holiday i just dont think we'll have time card? My MIL was miffed when i said my family doesnt do second showers, but as she would never offer to host i've dodged that bullet.

  • @bhjones1980 I'd go one of two routes:

    1. Allow her to throw a "sprinkle." We did this for my sis when her second was a different sex, and it was small and gifts were optional. Mostly it was just clothes. She had no registry, which encouraged people not to go overboard. You can suggest this if she brings up a shower by saying how grateful you are, but have everything you "need" so it's just a celebration. It's probably not what you WANT, but might be the best choice.

    2. Tell her you were actually excited to have a "meet the baby" party once LO was born, and you'd be afraid to offend anyone by having two parties for one baby. Get her excited about the meet-the-baby thing and that she can get to show off her grandchild yada yada yada.

But what if I dont want ANY party at all, I REALLY DON'T!

The only reason the first shower wasn't torture for me was because we made it a couples shower (I hate parties that revolve around me, they make me very uncomfortable), she did my wedding shower and DS shower at her house and the drama and chaos it caused with my mom/sister, her passive aggressive behavior.... I really do not want anything.

I will just have to bit the bullet and say no party.  Ugh!

  • So dh called me on his way to work today as I am walking out of the house myself to inform me "by the way we may have a guest tonight"

Ummm WHAT? Have you seen our house my friend? We have been out of the house for 3 weekends and it is a disaster. Thank goodness it is only is college aged brother who only needs a place to sleep otherwise DH would be taking a vacation day to get our house clean.

  • I am so jealous of all you ladies that only wash/dry your hair a couple a times a week!! If I don't wash and dry daily I am a skank head for sure!! Super thick hair medium length and gets very oily at night! I can *sometimes* go one day without only if I wavy curl it with curling iron and I have to sleep on it a certain way lol I know very high maintenance!
  • So yesterday I mentioned that we're under a tropical storm watch with Christobal. Today is light to moderate wind with sunny skies, the first ones in weeks. I know that we're likely to get hit in the overnight and the water is getting a bit choppy, but really. Oh well, no cruise ships until next week.

  • I dry my hair almost everyday. It's semi-wavy and just looks better after being blown dry. If it's humid or I'm running late I'll leave it wet and scrunch it a little.

My random is I woke up mad at DH this morning because of a dream I had. To make a long story short he said he didn't know if loved me or not and wanted to give it a week to decide. I said I didn't deserve that and was going to move out, pregnant with a 2 year old.

I hate the dreams that seem so real that you're confused whether it happened or not when you wake up.
I think my parents recent divorce after 30 years of marriage messed me up.

  • I wash my hair every other day.  If I'm working or going anywhere, I blowdry and straighten it.  Sometimes, in the summer, I put it up in a wet bun, but usually I dry and straighten it.  It takes a while so I shower at night.

DS has gone from sleeping beautifully (finally.. the kid didn't STTN until 2!) to randomly waking up at least 2x a night.  This, combined with some pregnancy discomfort, insomnia, etc. does not add up to a happy mama.

  • @bhjones1980‌ if your gonna go the holiday route (which is a good option) you might have to come up with some stall tactics and then say there's no time in like mid/late october.

My hair. *sigh* When I worked I washed/dried it every other day. It took an hour and a half shower to door and no actual styling involved. Now I wear it up in a wet bun or twist or pippi braids since im home all day. But I SERIOUSLY need a hair cut.

Anyone have any non-mom looks that are good? My hair is fair long and SUPER thick. I desperately need suggestions.

  • I only have to blow dry/wash every other day, since I started using Wen. I cut my hair a few weeks ago, so it definitely is no longer wash and go, like it was when it was long. Wen has been my saving grace!

My random, I have a high risk appointment this afternoon to check my placenta location. Transvaginal US. I'm so nervous to have another previa. I wish I didn't have to go alone, but I don't have a choice, since I don't want DS there for that type of US. I just hope my placenta is nice and high, nowhere near my cervix.

  • I wash my hair every night (it gets super greasy otherwise- I have a TON of pretty fine, silky-textured hair) but let it air-dry overnight and either flat iron or wear wavy in the morning. If I fall asleep before showering, I might blow dry my hair, but if it's not freezing out, I'm a lot more likely to use some texturizing spray and let it dry wavy. In the winter I blow dry a lot more often.

VERY small thing at my house with presents and cake...then going out to eat as a family. I'm having major guilt that we aren't doing something more, but last year things just got to be TOO much.

  • @krispy83 I feel you with the 2 year old sleeping issues. It was just a couple months ago that DS started sleeping through the night and now very recently we've had a few really bad nights. I've actually ended up sleeping with him a couple nights because I am too exhausted to be up every hour. I have no advice, just wanted you to know you are not alone.

  • @holachicaaa‌ that is super tacky and weird!

  • Nope, no blow drying over here going on. Maybe if I am in a hurry so my hair can't air dry.

I shower every morning but I don't wash my hair every day. I use a non-sulfate shampoo and vinegar rinse and after adjusting I now don't get greasy hair but maybe every 3-4 days, longer in the winter. I have naturally oily/straight/fine hair that used to get greasy by the evening each day. I've been doing this nearly two years and my hair has never looked or behaved better.
    BabyFetus Ticker
  • I don't blow dry unless it's -30 or below (Celsius) out or it is winter and I have to walk the dog before my hair can air dry.

Currently my hair is 1/4 way down my back and a mix of fine, thick, curly, and wavy hairs of black, blonde, red, copper, and brown. Air dry and it curls into ringlets in some places, waves in others. It cannot be tamed. I need to cut it because it takes 2 hours to air dry, which won't fly in the winter!

I've had complements on my hair my whole life because of the natural colour (like a red auburn) and the waves and curls but none of those complementing people realized the years of tears from tangles I've gone through! Oh the tangles!
  • @selly08‌ so sorry you had a bad dream-- I had a terrible dream a few weeks ago and woke up sobbing!!! And last night I was crying because my husband woke me up when he came to bed-- I just want to sleeeeeeeeep!

Me too!! I just wanna sleep too. I never had a problem with either sleep or dreams. This sucks! Grrrrrr
  • I used to do my hair everyday, didn't shampoo but at least some conditioner. I would blow dry and style. Then I got pregnant, and became tired and lazy.  Now I'm lucky if i wash my hair 2-3 times a week. Only use curling iron on special occasions.  I've been growing my hair out for 2 years and now I'm ready to chop it.  DH would not love it, but I may just say eff-it and cut it!
  • My dreams have been nuts lately! We've been binge watching breaking bad and EVERY night I dream I work in a meth lab.

  • I never blow dry my hair.  It takes to long and I get hot flashes.  I'd rather let it air dry and then style it with a tool.

@bhjones1980 I'm planning to use the holiday excuse as well.  I figured if someone is so desperate to buy a gift, it will probably come at Christmas anyway. My MIL is in the have a party for everything camp and get as many gifts as you can.  She added 40 people to our wedding invite list, knowing they couldn't come, just so they would buy us something.

  • I wash and blow dry my hair every morning. I have super super fine hair so I look like a greaseball if I don't. I've been told that if I just go a while without washing then it will get better....but unless I hibernate for a week, that isn't going to happen.

I told my Mom this morning. She is over the moon! This will be granddaughter #5 for her. I'm not seeing any grandsons in her future. Luckily, little girls are awesome!

My parents will now have 4 granddaughters, and I'm one of 3 girls. I'm not seeing any boys in their future either.
