I tried a lot of different things just trying to eliminate the number of chemicals I use on a daily basis and make my beauty routine easier. My hair grows faster, is healthier, and I use no styling products because honestly it is perfect every day without doing anything. It's not weighed down.
I use a Kirkland's brand sulfate free shampoo from costco and do a diluted white vinegar rinse afterwards. I use very little shampoo. I have very thick hair (although the strands are fine) and use maybe a nickle size amount of shampoo and only on roots. I have a cup I fill about 1/4 full with white vinegar and the rest with water. I dip my ends in it for a few seconds and then pour it on my ends (below my ears). A minute or so later I rinse it very well. It cleanses and seals the cuticles without weighing down my fine hair. And no, it doesn't smell like anything at all. Just clean hair.
It took about 2 weeks to adjust and during that time my hair was oily. I pulled it back in a bun and used dry shampoo on my roots and bangs. Worked fine and no one noticed. I used to be an avid redkin user and spend $70 every few months on a bottle of Moroccan hair oil... so I know good hair products and much prefer this. It doesn't work great for everyone though but is worth a shot.
Okay serious note here. Can people please send some thoughts and prayers to the older of my two pregnant little sisters? Shes a bumpie (feb 14 mom)
She had a mini stroke not to long ago and was seeing a neurologist. After her appt today they are sending her to a hematologist tomorrow. It seems she has a blood mutation that causes her blood to clot. She had no symptoms of anything like this until she was pregnant. I dont know the name of it because she doesn't remember (thats my sister God love her, id be a googling fool at the moment with the exact spelling written down for me before id even think of leaving. Its probably best for her sanity anyway)
Anyway id appreciate prayers for her and my little nephew GP if you are the praying type and healing thoughts if you arent. Thanks ladies

I wash my hair every day. I have thick wavy hair so I just put some product in it, scrunch it a little and walk out the door. I have an hour commute so my hair is dry and has a nice wave to it (sometimes). Sometimes I shower at night and then throw some curls in quick with my hair straightener. If I really have the time, I will blow dry and straighten my hair but that doesnt really happen very often.
So scary thinking of you and your sister @herhighness
Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

Thanks ladies. Ill update when i know something tomorrow. Im half tempted to go to her November board and post for prayers but i dont want her attempting to kick my ass (she couldn't but she may attempt)
I just figure the more prayers the better.

Back up there, how does one go 3 weeks without washing her hair? I'm like re-discovering America daily since I joined TB. My hair would get greasy on day 3, am I just extra dirty? I'm an every other day washer.
Does this mean you don't wash your hair after gym?! :-&

After a while, if you stop washing it, it stops over producing oil. You have to go through a long time of looking like a greaseball, but it does work.
I'm not brave enough to do it, though. I'll take my damaged, shampooed hair any day over having to deal with greasy hair for weeks on end....
Oh @herhighness, lots of T&P for you and family and especially your sister! I'm just a major genetics nerd, so forgive me, but Google tells me if might be a Factor V Leiden thrombophilia, which encodes a protein involved in clotting. Obviously you'll have to wait to get more information from her, but since it's genetic, have you considered getting tested for it as well?

We dont have the same father. My sisters are both from my parents second marriages. I'm assuming since ive had 2 children and ive had surgery before that i dont have it or it would have been noticed by now. I wish she would have remembered the name of it! I would love to google to give me peace of mind.

Ah gotcha, well that makes me feel better for you at least......but still a scary battle for her. Really hoping it is something they can control easily, I can't imagine how terrifying it all is.
I'm with @cls78, don't understand the blow drying technique. I have curly frizzy hair though, so it's either a hot mess or blown out by a pro. A blowout bar just opened near us and I have a 20% coupon to use. I'm pretty excited.
Also I didn't realize there were two random threads, so I already said this. But that shower thread needs to be done. For real. It gives me fits just looking at the fucking thing.
@Irishcurls - what the heck, I've been waiting patiently for a blow dry bar to open near me for years, and nothing. I feel like you north shore people (you're north shore, right?) have all the fun.
@kkleigh10 I'm so late to the party here, but a blow dry bar opened around the corner from my office. I have been known to sneak out for a "coffee break" and come back with freshly blown out hair. It's so dangerous.

I hope they can figure out what it is exactly to prevent it from happening again!
