NBR: Anniversary Ideas

We had thought DH would have to work all weekend, and that we'd celebrate another time. No biggie.

Now we find out DH doesn't have to work after all and he's all excited about doing something for our anniversary weekend! Eep!

Last year he took me to a Michael Buble concert, so the man plans well, but he's super busy until Friday so all planning has fallen on me.

All I can think of is a hotel in a local city, but it's still hot as heck here and not sure what would be fun to do with our days? Nothing TOO expensive. Usually we just walk around a city exploring, but with the heat and being pregnant, that sounds like hell. We also usually love going to wine country or going beer tasting, but that's not a thing right now either for me.

I suggested a spa day but having a hard time finding decent spas that offer prenatal massage.

Ideas??? Please?

Re: NBR: Anniversary Ideas

  • I have no idea where you are, but DH took me to Amish country for an anniversary getaway last year, and we had a great time. Is there somewhere similar near you? Maybe just a small B&B nearby to relax and explore a town/area?

I keep looking, but it seems most are booked for the weekend or require 3 nights for the holiday weekend.

Also, the idea of sharing a queen sized bed with DH right now sounds rough (which is the size most B&Bs seem to offer). He's really tall and takes up a lot of space; and I need several pillows to get comfortable!

  • I wish I could be more specific on our location, but I really shouldn't. And especially since we can't go very far.

Let's just assume I have looked at B&Bs and popular destinations near me. All too hot to do anything outdoors really. Nothing really to do indoors. I am at a bit of a loss activity-wise.

  • Are there any shows/cultural things that go on near you? Maybe you could grab a nice dinner and then go to a concert/show something like that? And a night in a hotel to top it off? It doesnt have to be a day time thing in the heat and sun of the south- maybe it could be more night time themed where its a little cooler and things are based indoors?

Also, re: spa - you may be able to do a mani/pedi or a facial or something instead of a massage...look into other options that you may enjoy?
  • @saiven‌ - I am starting to realize that most of "what we like to do" involves drinking ;-) Our honeymoon was a huge brewery and winery tour of the PNW, and it was great!

  • I just booked an anniversary night away at a casino that's within driving distance.  I'm SUPER excited! We haven't been in nearly a year and there's a great comedy show that night so we are planning a nice dinner at one of their upscale restaurants and then the show (and, of course, some gambling... but we're penny slot peeps so nothing too serious!).  Is there anything like that to do?

Do you have Luxe level movie theaters out your way?  You can dine and watch the movie at the same time?  Kind of nice to do (esp since that's not a kid-friendly activity once the baby arrives). And it's air conditioned ;)

Any local shows/theaters/comedy shows anywhere? That's always fun, IMO.

Comedy shows.. cooking classes.. concert.. museum... fancy restaurant.. casino.. a tasting at a resturant ( I forgot what its called.. when they bring you out course after course or thr chefs choosing). Movies.. arcade... look on groupon too.
One of our best dates was then we spent the afternoon at this awsome zoo. it was totally random and before kids but so much fun.
  • Thanks ladies!  I love the idea of a show - not sure why that didn't occur to me (I think I was thinking of daytime things to do).

I've found a few shows that might work.  Combined with dinner and a hotel (if I can find one still for the holiday weekend... if not, it's not too far to drive) it should work out just fine!

Reallllly appreciate the input.  I was having major trouble with this for some reason!

Based on the love of the wine and the beer :D  I'm the same way ;)

Stealing an idea that we did for a coworker's wedding, we bought 12 bottles of wine (doesn't have to be that many but there are 12 of us in the department) and made tags with a poem on it, each with a specific milestone on them: first xmas, first fight, first anniversary etc.

The intention being that the bottle of wine was to be inbibed at that event.  Someone in the office got it off pintrest.  You might be able to adapt something like that for an anniversary gift.  If you google it you can get examples of what it looks like and the poems that are out there.

I had to step in to say this, @ladyamanuet .. your siggy challenge had @MrKetchup and I actually laughing out loud. Brilliant, I tell you. Brilliant.

    That is all. Carry on.

You're one stalker I can live with ;-)

All, we made plans! Hotels were ridiculously booked (not surprising) - it was either $250+ for a crappy Best Western or $70 for a really sketchy motel 20 minutes from downtown anywhere. So we're doing a day trip, going to play tourist in a local city, have some delicious Indian food (our town thinks Mexican is the only necessary international cuisine) and then go to a fun play before coming home! Then a beach day the next day. I really really appreciate all the suggestions!
