Hi, Im Katie. New to this board. Figured I'd finally check in. I am due October 29. Baby boy named James.
I was put on a gestational diabetes diet last Friday.
My breakfast carb allowance is between 30-45 carbs. I ate two pieces of toast for 26 g of carbs and 2 beef little smokies for 4 g of carbs for a total of my minimum carbs of 30, and got a 142 reading. I'm supposed to be 120 or below. I checked the nutrition facts before I ate and then again when I got my high number to double check and everything was fine. Does anyone know why this would spike my blood sugar? I haven't had a high number for breakfast yet, and having eaten the minimum required I'm super confused!
So far my only high numbers have been when I tried something pizza related. I had pizza rolls within my carbs range and a lean cuisine pizza and both spiked my blood sugar super high so I know to stay away from pizza stuff! But other than that and this morning my numbers and ketones have great results.
I could kill for like just one pretzel m&m or something though haha +/- 60 more days to go!
Thanks for any help! Look forward to joining in on the October 2014 mom boards finally!
I'd love to be able to eat French fries. I miss those. Any deep fried starch (or anything battered and deep fried) is the worst thing for my blood sugar, though. The fat and carb combination always shoots me up well into the 200s.

Thanks for the help! I'll try one piece of toast in the morning and see how that goes instead. I was surprised since I've had a breakfast burrito wrapped by a large tortilla and been fine.
I'm envious of those that still can have peanut butter. Theres a big no peanut butter sign on my food chart that the dietician gave me.
The only thing they approve for a sweet tooth is sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello/pudding, fruit and yogurt.
I can't complain too much yet since I only have to control it with a diet so far and not use insulin but this hit or miss business on somethings working and not others and wading through trying to figure it out is the pits sometimes.
The diet has been very challenging this week. Numbers are perfect and then just shoot up for no reason. MFM told me to start taking glyburide at lunch instead of bedtime which has lead to some not so fun crashes.
Had a crazy moment last night in the gas station trying to find something I could eat on the way home from the gym (walked 50 mins and then my sugar level tanked) and then went off to walmart to find better snack to avoid that the rest of the week since I have been instructed to walk daily for an hour.
Today my fasting was 98 and post-breakfast was 122 so today I am still high after the exercising, the diet, and the meds.
This week if it could be anything it would be Chinese food. I have been craving it so hardcore but I just have to stay focused. I literally got in a fight with DH about meal planning the other night because I didn't want to think about food and carb counts anymore that day. He was feeling sick and he was zero help. I fixed myself something without speaking to him, showered, and watch tv in our bed.
Once I had a nap and it was time for my snack I came out and pretended like the whole thing never happened. He literally said "I don't know what you can eat" . It took all I had not to tell him that he could count to 45 as good as I could.
The next day while I was at my shower, he went to the grocery store and got what we needed for dinners and snack this week and had dinner cooked last night. So grateful for the help because it really gets tiring thinking about GD all the time.
Apologise for the novel...
Diet is going relatively well, OB is still pleased with my numbers, so that's good. I've had a lot more energy to do things lately, which I think has led me to doing way to much and today I feel like I got hit by a train

All the hot brownie Sundays I could get my hands on!!

I've been pretty happy how well this week went as far as my numbers. I really watched what i was eating and got strict with myself again. I did find some new snacks that have helped me out too. I am a Pumpkin Spice Latte lover, today was the first day starbucks was selling them. I planned my breakfast accordingly and drank a tall PSL; 2 hours after my numbers were at 74. I'm taking that as a win! I probably wont have another until the baby is here, but it was such a nice treat!
QOTW: If you could eat one food and it not impact your blood sugar, what would it be?
Homemade chocolate cake, with homemade chocolate frosting and maybe a slight dab of ice cream with toasted coconut on top! I'll just go daydream about that now....

Check In: Going out to dinner to a non-chain restaurant threw off my numbers, but I can understand why looking back. I'm struggling with breakfast. I made a smoothie the other morning with frozen strawberries and blueberries, almond milk, and some greek yogurt. I could barely eat it. No sweetness at all. Also, loving the ice cream before bed. Makes GD so much easier to tolerate!
QOTW: I have a recipe for egg-free cookie dough I love to make, but there's no way I could eat it now
Yeah that's what a few people I know that had gestational diabetes tell me, that my plan is super strict. My friend was able to have peanut butter and atkins candies etc and it was fine. The dietician at the endocronoligist office that I was referred to by my OB is who gave me the strict diet, and it wasn't one personalized for me but one they give to everyone they see.
I was also told my carb count they have me on was high. Breakfast is 30-45 carbs, Morning Snack is 15 carbs, Lunch is 45-60 carbs, Afternoon Snack is 15 carbs, Dinner is 45-60 carbs and Bedtime Snack is 45 carbs.

Hi everyone, I'm new here, although I have been keeping up with these weekly threads for the last month or so.
My numbers were good at first, but then as the pregnancy as progressed, my numbers just kept going up (mainly my fasting and breakfast numbers) so they put me on GylBruide last week.
I've been taking 1.25mg every night at bedtime so help with fasting numbers but breakfast numbers were still in the 150s-160s so they emailed me yesterday to tell me to take an additional pill 30-60 mins before breakfast. its starting to help. but I noticed that my lunch and dinner numbers were on the low side. they used to be in the 100-115 range but today it was 79 after both meals. (I test 1 hr post meal btw and they want it to be under 140) Is 79 an acceptable number, or too low?
I have my regular apt with my OB tomorrow morning first thing and I guess I'll ask her what the plan is for delivery...I've read that sometimes doctors will induce at 39 weeks but some let you go to 40.
I also have my first NST tomorrow morning right after my reg OB appt. wish me luck.
If I could have any food it would be Swedish fish and gummy bears. I'm a candy whore.

Diet is going ok. I have been struggling with what to order when we go out to eat. I have taken some risks that haven't always worked out so well and other times they are fine. My fasting numbers in the morning are still all over the place. I meet with the nutritionist again tomorrow and I know she and the endocrinologist are going to increase the insulin again tomorrow.
I have had 2 NST and baby girl was not responsive in either of them so I changed the time to the AM. She is fine during the u/s (i've had 3 in a week and a half) so I am hoping it is just a time thing. The MFM told me last week she will likely want me induced by 39 weeks if I don't go before. I have been enjoying this pregnancy and I feel great still, so thus is just frustrating me. Sorry for the rant.

It's a GIRL!!!
It's really good
I have found if I hit 70 than I better act quick because 1. It seems harder to stay in range the rest of the day and I yo yo and 2. Drops happen very quickly like 15 mins to 30's and 40's. I passed out at 36 at work the other day. I felt fine and then in a matter of minutes I felt drunk and was out. It had been 119 an hour before that.

@starla487, I have always heard that you should be no higher than 140 one hour post prandial and no higher than 120 one hour post prandial. I found a link on the American Diabetes Association website with the same information.

That was me! I have also had good experiences with the Twix ice cream bars and single serve Haagen Dazs ice cream cups. If I'm craving chocolate, I will have 2 pieces and a cup of soy milk.
That cauliflower soup sounds interesting - I have also heard of cauliflower rice and risotto but haven't tried that yet.

Look on the bright side - lots of calcium. And the yogurt and ice cream have protein.
