We are going with a fire department theme. I didn't like any of the bedding sets I could find, but saw a pin on pintrest that I liked(top part of attached picture), so we are going with something similar. Grey, Red, Black, and White.
We did gray walls with accents of bright yellow and baby elephants. It's gender neutral even tho we are finding out the sex. I just love baby elephants!
Here is our nursery so far. No theme really and we are team green so we went with a teal, grey, and white. Maybe a beach theme? Or we might just put up cute wall hangings depending what I find.
Pottery Barn has a really cute gender neutral elephant/chevron theme we are going with. It is all grey and white. I did the "boy" nursery for my son and a really girly nursery for my daughter. I'm just not into it this pregnancy. I wanted something easy on the eyes and not so in your face, if that makes any sense lol.
For now we are doing a mermaid theme for a girl (not the little mermaid) but just under the sea type thing and I LOVE mermaids for a boy were doing a arrow/woods theme. Trying to go more with the rustic looking woodland stuff. I dont want to do anything too cutesy so when they get older we won't have to reprint the walls. Example, my sister had me paint zebra stripes on one wall for her jungle themed nursery, they are pink and orange.... I don't want to go through that again
I'm really not a fan of themes. We are team green so the nursery is just a well decorated, peaceful room of our home. I want to enjoy being in there and not surrounded by babyish decor. I also am avoiding too much busy colors/prints because I want it to very serene. So far a few things we have are eggplant colored velvet drapes, a vintage serpentine dresser, a newspaper decoupage armoire, and an upholstered glider chair. The walls are a really light blueish gray (SW Spare White). I am using accents of white and gold, with some playful accessories like a throw blanket with bikes on it, a ceramic giraffe lamp, etc. Things I still need to buy - white classic crib, plush off white rug, book ledges, and some frames for the wall above the dresser/changing pad.
One of my favorite things in the whole room right now is this little anthropologie rabbit hook about knee height holding a hippo baby bath robe. It is so cute.
I've been itching to do some mural work, and am wavering between straight whimsy and a garden room. DD is 9 and would love a garden room still, so I'm leaning that way for longevity. It seems like it will be fairly easy to update as she grows up, and I can keep bedding and furniture simple.
We are doing an Aloha room of sorts. My grandparents used to send me cards from Hawaii all the time. There is a local artist named Rosalie Prussing. Each card was a print of one of her paintings. I have them all framed, so they will go in the baby's room. There is so much color in the cards, that I think I will go solid or neutral on the bedding and furtniture. Just solid colored crib sheets, and subtle pineapples maybe??? I will figure it out as a I go along.
Peter Pan! Good for a boy or girl. I collect different editions of Peter Pan because if all the amazing editions with cool cover art. If it's a boy I'll up on pirates, if it's a girl, I'll up on mermaids.
Oh my goodness I love this idea! I thought about a Peter Pan theme if we had b/b twins, but your idea of upping the mermaids totally makes it doable for girls, too! Mind if I steal this idea? Haha
If we have a girl, I want to do a French theme. The bedding will be gray and white damask with light pink accents.
If it is a boy, we are considering Rilakuma. He is a really cute Japanese bear and is completely adorable. DH wants to do Rilakuma for a girl too, but I have fallen in love with the damask bedding set.
