What nursery themes are you considering?

I've been pinning tons of potential boy's nursery ideas, since I already have tons of girl's things from DD. Right now I have three top theme contenders. I'll either do a retro car theme, a space/robots theme, or a very classic nautical theme. The car theme is my favorite, but it's the hardest to put together.

What themes are you all considering?

LO1 has a woodland animals theme/camping theme. They will be sharing a room, so if it's a boy, same theme. If it's a girl, I saw a pink owl/woodland animal theme that would compliment it well I think.
    Anniversary

  • For boy or girl we will do creams and white! I love the very vintage/classic look! So depending on the sex we will add in color with pillows, throw blankets and toys!
  • This is our third and what I hate about themes is when you tell people they buy you everything you can imagine with that thing/theme on it. For my daughter we did owls and every piece of clothing people bought had owls. Same with my sons spaceship theme. Anyway this time we are just picking a color theme. We are doing red. I was inspired by the new Aden + Anais line. I think it's so fun since red is not a traditional baby color!! We are also not finding out what we are having so it will work for both:)
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • No themes here. I want to do yellow/grey/white.

  • We've thought about Star Wars (LOVE the PBK stuff), Calvin and Hobbes, and a more generic "vintage baby" style with aqua and red. I really like the superhero rooms that I see on Pinterest too, we might do that for a boy.  I think once we know the sex I will have a better idea what I want.

  • No themes - just colors

The nursery is painted a light blue right now.
If it's another boy,  it will keep the same blue/yellow/green color scheme.
If it's a girl, I will get rid of the yellow and green accents and add teal, purple and pink instead.

  • I think I'm just going with a navy, gray, and coral color scheme, with white furniture.  We're having a girl, but I don't want it too over the top girly.  The walls in our apt are already gray, and I don't want to re-paint!  I have a giant crush on this bedding and I know I'll cave and have it made with navy instead of teal.  https://www.etsy.com/listing/192779005/bumperless-aqua-coral-and-gray-baby-girl?ref=shop_home_active_19

I was stalking Etsy yesterday and saw that as well. Super cute!!

We are doing coral, teal, white and grey for our little girl's room. We were going to do a theme but it's just too hard to decide, so just colors for now. I'd like to keep it something that I won't have to change in a year or two.

Peter Pan is my absolute favorite!!  I considered this as well, although upping the fairies instead of the mermaids for a girl.  I nixed it recently in favor of Monsters Inc.

  • I had a cutesy jungle theme for DS. Bedding, curtains, wall decor...all of it. It was hard to find "always" matching stuff. Also, he did get a lot of gifts that did not go with the theme. I regret doing the whole theme. I look back and it was stupid and wasteful.

This time, I am just going to do a color. It's still fun and you can throw different decor with it. If I have a girl, I will do purples (my favorite color). If I have another boy, I still have the jungle stuff, but may just do red or something with jungle accents (maybe)

    Like this...but purple

  • We're having a BOY but I picked out neutral nursery colors before we knew.  We will do a bumble bee theme, yellow grey and white with chevron prints.

  • We have known for a long time it's a boy. I already got police crib bedding and will paint the walls light blue, plus hang cool stuff on the walls. I have my dad's retirement photo + his retired sergeant badge that I plan to put in a shadow box. I also am going to frame DH's badge pinning pic from when he was a rookie, and a photo of our Czech shepherd who isn't a police k9 but looks like one because of his breed.

I also like this a lot... So I want to get different colored paper lanterns including a couple silver stars to hang above his changing table.

There's not a ton of options that don't include fire engines also. I'm gonna have to get creative.

  • We are team green, but I would do our theme either way. We are doing a farm theme... The walls are painted to like denim on the bottom and tan on the top, separated by a red swag bandana border. Then I made a pennant banner with denim, dark red canvas, and burlap with iron on black decals. I cut the decals with my cricut. They are different animals, a barn, windmill and sayings like 'farm raised' and 'home grown'

  • I'm not one for themes, but especially since we are having boy/girl twins, something more classic just seemed more appropriate.  We will decorate the walls with family pictures and maybe a few classic boy/girl signs like the "Snakes and snails and puppy dog tails" and "Sugar and Spice and all things nice" type signs.  I have a few window panes that will hold the pictures, etc.

They will have lovely crib skirts that come in a grey paisley trimmed in pink or blue!  That way I can do solid pink/blue crib sheets, solid grey, solid white and then paisley that match the crib skirts.

I'm going with the sweet jojo stuff from Target.  Simple, not expensive, lots of stuff to go with it if I want to coordinate!

I am NOT getting the sets, but this is the pattern.  Each crib will have the same pattern but in pink or blue.  I'm obsessed.

We're doing frogs, sort of. I don't want to go overkill on the theme, but my sister bought us a cute frog blanket for Amelia that we didn't get to use. Everything else we had for her is girly, so I like the idea of using it and connecting her to the new baby in some way.

I'm thinking pale blue & green for the color scheme and maybe just some frog accents here and there. My sister is an artist so I found some cute stuff on Pinterest I'm hoping she can recreate.

  • If it's a boy we are using an antique duck decoy as a jumping off point for a rustic nursery. We can recycle a lot of stuff from DS's nursery.

For a girl I have a country French fabric scheme picked out. Not a specific theme, but lots of soothing neutrals with soft pinks and purples.

  • Don't know sex yet, but regardless we want a general science theme. Haven't been able to find much Internet inspiration unfortunately. We do know the room will stay the tan color it is now (can't afford to paint) and we will likely use some neat wall decals. Have some fun science/learning toys around. DH wants a solar system mobile for the crib.
  • We aren't doing a "theme". The walls will be aqua and when we find out boy or girl we will bring in accents of pink/purple or blue/green. I am sure there will be a few things with fish on them because my husband keeps salt water aquariums but it isn't a theme.

Oh my goodness I love this idea! I thought about a Peter Pan theme if we had b/b twins, but your idea of upping the mermaids totally makes it doable for girls, too! Mind if I steal this idea? Haha

  • If it's a bit we are doing a car theme.. More like old school cars

For a girl I am doing tan and pale pink and having a fairytale theme
  • If I had a room to make into a nursery, I would probably do a grey and white theme.  Maybe throw some oversized safari animals somewhere.  Maybe add a little yellow somewhere.

However, right now we live in a one bedroom loft-style condo (essentially I live in one large room with a bathroom).  So, if the baby were born today, it would be sleeping in the middle of our living room/kitchen...or maybe in the bath tub ;)
  • After going to Buy Buy Baby my DH liked the "Pirates Cove" from Cotton Tale.
  • I'm mainly doing colors and have very little to decorate as the baby will be in our room until we get a bigger place (hopefully not too long after birth). I initially wanted grey and yellow either way, but now I'm thinking I might only do yellow for a girl... I can't decide. If I do any theme at all, it'll be You Are My Sunshine. But I don't know yet. It'll help when I know what we're having.
  • I like the "very hungry caterpillar" nurseries I have seen.
also cute is "pat the bunny"

but we are book nerds around here
