I will probably have to get one for work otherwise I wouldn't get one. My son didn't get one last year and won't thus year. The flu vaccine (well all but one or two types) has no proven data to actually prevent the flu. Just saying.
Yes. I never got them before I got pregnant with #1 but I have gotten it ever since and so have my boys. Pregnant women and young kids are at a higher risk and with my oldest going to preschool, he will be bringing us home all kinds of ick.
Yes, definitely. H too, and I'll be asking our parents who will visit after the baby is born to get one (whooping cough too). I dont usually get it but this time is different. You're more vulnerable when pregnant.
I will be getting one due to where I work (they won't let you work until you have it past a certain date). My only complaint is that it protects us against the initial flu strain that they create the vaccine for, but as flu season progresses, it mutates, leaving us susceptible still if we come in contact with the mutation. Annoying.
So I plan to get one as well as making others that plan to visit either highly suggest to get one or to wait to see the baby after flu season.
However, what about going out in public? I know there's chances on everything but do you have concerns of taking the baby to say the grocery store? Or should there be a waiting period to allow them to build up some immune system before we head out?
I get one every year and so does ds. Dh is on his own but ill ask him to this year. The one year I didn't get it I got the real flu. I would not wish that on my worst enemy. I dont think iv ever could even imagine being that sick. It was awful.
Our whole family got them last year and we've never been more sick in our lives. We all got sick about 5 times last winter... Terrible. We haven't had them in previous years and we never get sick!! I know it's only effective for the top 3 deadliest strains, but I live in a small town in Canada and it just doesn't make since to put ourselves through that again. Unless one of those deadly strains makes it to my town, I won't be getting the shot... And neither will my family. Just my experience tho.
Definitely not.

No flu shots for us either!
Let's form a club ladies
Add me to the club. Never have and pretty sure I never will get or give my kids the seasonal flu shot. This is one subject I DO have a high horse about, but I'll spare everyone. haha.
I have to say, last year it did tick me off. DD was sick with a fever and had a slight cough. I don't remember why exactly, but I called the pedi around that time for some reason and it was relevant to mention she was running a 101/102 fever during the day and had a slight cough. Immediately, the nurse said "Your daughter has the flu and you need to take her to the hospital." Uhhh, no. IF she had the flu, why would I go expose everyone in the hospital to it? And 101/102 fever plus a slight cough and no other symptoms hardly seems flu-sounding.
DD had GREAT fun with it, actually, because we had a ton of snow in Virginia last year at that time, so I let her eat snow all day to stay hydrated. Haha maybe that's where she got the germs that infected her.
I get one to protect myself and some of the patients I work with who cannot get them themselves (besides protecting DD). H can't get one because he has an anaphylactic reaction to eggs, but it's my understanding there will be one for people with egg allergies this year.

That's my mom's problem. She's never gotten a flu shot because of the egg allergy. I'll have to look into this. I wonder if she has any interest in the shot if it doesn't have egg in it...
I didn't get one while I was pregnant with DD... And then I ended up getting the flu. I do not want to go though that again! So yes, I will be getting the flu shot this time. I think it's especially important this time because baby will be born right in the middle of flu season.

Question... Maybe @ICarriedAWatermelon knows.... Can people who have the flu vaccine still be a carrier of the flu? Sorry if that's dumb
I'm telling my in-laws they can't come over to see baby unless they have the vaccine... So I'm just curious is people like that can still be unknowing carriers?

I got the flu vaccine last pregnancy, and I got one that was egg-free for pregnant women and people with allergies.
For those of you who opt out of the flu vaccine, why? And do you opt out of all vaccines?

I will, and so will my H and my IL's. We will all be getting the tdap too. I have had the flu during this pregnancy, around 11 weeks, because I missed my flu shot. It was absolute hell and I never want to go through that again. My hubby got the shot and he didn't get sick.
My FFFC is that people who skip the shot are not only ignorant, but selfish a-holes to boot. Maybe you can recover just fine from the flu, but those of us with compromised immune systems, the elderly, and children cannot. Unless you have some rare issue that prohibits you from getting vaccinated, the flu shot does not "risk your life", FFS.

I may be mistaken, but I thought pregnant women couldn't do the mist?

Guess it's something I should start researching so I can make my decision. Unless someone here can do the research for me. I'm lazy today
