Oh I have one that for some reason really bothers people. I think eating meat is wrong. I just can't understand how it's ok to eat a living breathing animal with feelings and families etc etc. I know peoples first argument is always "that's why god put them here," but I'm not a believer so I disagree with that. Another is that it's the circle of life and an animal would eat us if they wanted to, but why compare our advanced minds to those of a wild animal who doesn't know much more about life besides basic survival instinct? Anyways, I don't judge those who eat it. My husband eats it my step Son eats it, but I won't cook it or eat it and haven't since I first started comprehending what it was I was actually eating. I've thought about posting this several Thursdays, but I hate when I tell people I don't eat meat so they start going into detail about how they love to hunt or love a juicy steak that's "bloody" n stuff. It makes my stomach turn. And for some reason people LOVE to shove in my face how little they care about eating meat/animals when I say I don't like to.
I have no problem with anyone feeling this way or being a vegetarian for these reasons.  The ONLY thing that bothers me about Vegans or Vegetarians is the select few who are full of shit and just like saying they don't eat meat because they are AWs (and eat meat behind closed doors).  It doesn't sound like you are one of them as your empathy for animals seems very genuine. :)>-

I don't like wine either, don't worry girl. I mean, I also haven't tried it...

But grape juice is srsly one of my favorite things to drink. So good! Like, me and Buster could party it up with a twelve pack of grape juice boxes.

Maybe its because there is suddenly SO much going on , and some really cool shit coming up at work, but I am right now having a really hard time trying to figure out how to be OK with 8 weeks away from work.

I feel the same way, but am taking 16 weeks off.

Yesterday I mentioned to my SD that I feel like my calendar isn't quite as full, and he told me that our ED told him that we should try to reduce my stress load during this time, and make my transition a bit easier. At the same time, my professional trajectory just underwent some major readjustments because my team was reorganized, so I know that my ED is hoping that when I come back in Feb I will essentially start a new in my new role.  I appreciate the fact that they are so concerned about my health and comfort level, but I love what I do and the transition to maternity leave is killing me!   I'm also afraid that I'll miss so much over the 4 months that I am gone!

I will be missing so many clinical data releases and medical congresses during 4Q, in addition to the culmination of 2 huge initiatives that I was asked to lead, and I must admit that part of me is so disappointed I won't be there for the conclusion and to make the final presentation.   I moved up the timeline on one project so I can "go out with a bang", but it's still not the same.
    :((

Anyway, sorry for the rambling.  I completely sympathize!!!

I am in the same place! I am implementing some new software (Which I have been fighting to do since March!) Now it seems I have the go ahead, and I will get everything ready for the launch.  Then my team will present to our sales and marketing organization in Las Vegas, the week I am due! I am having a hard time, partially because I am a control freak but this project is my baby (no pun intended) and I miss the best part of it.  I am also afraid I will come back to a total shit show. Or that they will decide they don't even need me!

The bolded was intended to be fully sarcastic. I don't partake for moral/religious reasons. ;)

  • My UO for the day, I am so sick and tired of turning on the TV, and seeing all the controversy over the Michael Brown shooting. AND what infuriates me even more are the opinions of uneducated and ignorant people. If you have no law enforcement background, then I you should keep your mouth shut about how you THINK it should have been handled.

Really? So citizens should have no input and must remain silent on all issues relating to law enforcement? Because no one has ever abused power OR handled something wrong? Also, I'm betting I know who you are referring to when you say "uneducated and ignorant people". :|
Well, I am referring to people who insist on voicing their opinion when they don't have their facts straight. At this point NO ONE knows exactly what happened, so yes, until then people should just keep their mouths shut about how they think it should be handled. It would be just like me telling YOU how to do your job, when I have no background, education, or training in what you do for a living.

  • I found this article that includes the perspective on the Michael Brown shooting from a black female cop's point of view. I thought it was really interesting and a good reminder not to take sides until you know the facts.

This makes me really angry, so angry I have a hard time even forming a coherent response. This country was founded on the idea that people should be able to voice their opinion, that we should be able to question our government and those in positions of power. I actually think that people who don't question our law enforcement officers (or other people in power) are the ignorant ones. Cops are people. People make mistakes. I certainly am not going to stand here and say we should trust that cop. He shot an unarmed man and killed him. Not even a man, a child. He killed a child. He shot him six times. If this happened to a white kid in the suburbs you had better believe people would want answers. This boy deserves the same. I don't care if he stole cigars, I don't care if he was being disrespectful to the officer. I DON'T CARE what was happening. This boy was killed and his family and friends deserve to know as much of the facts surrounding that as possible. We only get answers by asking questions. Reading over this, I guess I am sick and tired of "hearing the opinions of uneducated and ignorant people" but I think we probably disagree about who those people are.

    Eta: quote fail

You make good points, the only thing I can't agree with is that you don't care what the kid was doing when he got shot. If he was assaulting the cop or wrestling for his gun would you care then? What if that cop was your husband? Maybe I'm just reading your post wrong so forgive me if that's the case. I would think that in situations like this there is always an investigation. I just don't understand why the riots in the meantime. It makes the peaceful protesters look bad and leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouths. I feel so bad for all the innocent people affected by their shenanigans.

There is a huge difference between asking questions and voicing your opinion before you know all the concrete facts. Of course the family needs answers, that is not what I am saying. My outrage is stemmed from people on social media, sitting behind their computers voicing their opinions. At this point know one knows exactly what happened. When I say "ignorant and uneducated" opinions, I am referring to comments like these: "just another trigger happy pig" or "oh it was because he was black" or "don't understand why they can't just shoot to injure"

  • I'm not taking one side or another. But I do question whether the violent rioters are acting out because they feel it's the only way to be heard, or are they using the protests as an excuse to be ass holes? But these are all very good perspectives and I'm glad you posted because it makes me think about it in ways I wouldn't.

Many of the people they are arresting are from far away places and they are extremists. I am glad they started referring to them as criminals in the press conferences rather than protestors. It is good to make that clear distinction I think.

  • @lrobi13‌ Me too! The whole family on that show just grosses me out. And that little girl is such a brat. Plus I can't stad the fact that they have to use so many subtitles because you can't understand wtf they are saying!

And just so you also know where I am coming from; I am married to a police officer who has been in an "officer involved shooting" and who was under the scrutiny from the general public. We all knew he was justified in his shoot, however, reading people's, yes I will say it again "uneducated, hurtful, and ignorant" comments were enough to drive any one bat shit crazy, especially when you know the facts and they don't. Have some compassion for the officer and his family, because little do you know, he could have been completely justified and was scared for HIS life. Think how him and his family feel right now? I'm not saying he is innocent, but people should hold their nasty opinions until the investigation is final.

Oh and just because the kid was "unarmed" doesn't mean anything. Just saying.

Yeah I kind of recognized your bias as an officer's wife from your tone. I think you personalized this situation though. I don't know what happened to your husband but I am not sure the same parallels would apply if you consider what we have said about why we (or people in general) are questioning/confused/angry... Media spins officer shootings making the officer look like the bad guy. I get that that happens. In this case, there is MORE to the issue than this individual cop. That is where I am coming from. ETA: "Oh and just because the kid was "unarmed" doesn't mean anything. Just saying." I TOTALLY disagree with this statement. It might not mean EVERYTHING but it has a lot of weight... You even call him a kid in this. This makes you sound like a total bitch. IMHO.
Just because he was unarmed doesn't mean he wasn't a threat to the officer's life. There have been two "officer involved" shootings here where the suspects staged it to look as if they had a weapon in their pocket, when in fact they didn't.

You said it doesn't mean anything. It means a lot. Yes, there are other factors. But it isn't worth nothing that he wasn't armed.
