It seems like there are quite a few teachers around. So, let's discuss.

what do you teach?
When are you due?

  • what do you teach? 3rd grade
When are you due? April 20, it is the last day of our spring break, so my last day won't be any later than the day before break.
When are you telling administration? As late as possible. Last time I had to tell my assistant principal at 7 weeks because I had some bleeding and an emergency u/s on the second day of school.
What concerns, questions, etc. do you have? I have an April baby already. I had no problems teaching until the very end, but I was lucky and I had minimal morning sickness.

  • I teach Pre-AP English 1, so 9th grade, and a theatre class. I'm due around April 15th and will probably tell my AP in the next few weeks. I have to take off work the 2nd week of school for a Dr appointment and since I'm our only freshman Pre-AP English teacher, I know she'll want to be sure my kiddos are prepared. My birthday is April 22nd, so I keep wondering if baby and I will share a birthday :)
  • I am actually a supply teacher so I usually get pretty steady work but I never know what school I will teaching in until the morning of usually. I don't plan on telling anyone until at least late September/mid October. I am due around the 25th of April. I already have a 2.5 year old son so I am a bit concerned with traveling from school to school and the stress of not having a full time job and having to get my son ready and take him to daycare every morning. I was extremely sick with my first child so I am hoping and praying this pregnancy is a lot different!
  • what do you teach?
I teacher grade 7 & 8 social studies, am the athletics director for grades 5-12, and am the VP for grades 5-8. However, I am currently already on mat leave (1 year in canada) until January 2015.

    When are you due?
    April 8th, 2015

    When are you telling administration?
I told them I would meet with them in the fall to discuss my return to work... so I guess then, as I won't be coming back after all! (Although, I wasn't planning on it anyways).

What concerns, questions, etc. do you have?
Just having 2 under 15 months - it's going to be a bit busy here! None related to work though, since I'm not currently there anyways. It does suck a little bit to walk away from my admin job, but c'est la vie; I know something right will come around when I'm ready to go back.

what do you teach?  I teach HS Business (9-12th)

When are you due?  April 19!

When are you telling administration?  Hopefully not until 12-13 weeks, right before I announce publicly

What concerns, questions, etc. do you have?  I am most worried about 'showing' too early.  I already have a pregnant looking belly because of all of the treatments/meds/hormones I have been on for the last 10 months (including IVF meds last month).  I was already told by a co-worker "Oh I didn't know you were pregnant" at the end of last year, and I wasn't even KU!!!!  It was so embarrassing, but I was waiting for it to happen because of the belly I already have.  I actually went out and bought some 'shapewear' to wear sometimes under certain work clothes so that I don't feel so self conscious.  I just have to last about 6 weeks at work before we are safe to announce!

  • what do you teach? Elementary Title I Math (Grades K-5).  It's a federal program that provides extra instructional support for students below grade level.

When are you due? April 15.  3 weeks after spring break and 6 weeks before summer break.
When are you telling administration? Sometime after my dating ultrasound in 2 1/2 weeks.
What concerns, questions, etc. do you have? Planning for a long-term sub.  My position is supplementary and to save money, I don't normally get a sub when I'm absent. It'll be interesting having to write plans for the end of the year when a lot of it involves assessment and isn't the most routine time of year.   I am also worried about telling too soon.  I am nauseated almost every morning.  I've only gotten sick twice, but I'm sure it won't be long before someone notices and says something.

  • What do you teach? HS Math (Algebra and PreAlgebra). Work for a cyber school so luckily won't have to be around any sick kiddies!!

When are you due? April 1!!!

When are you telling administration? Unfortunatly today is our first day back to work from summer but the only time I could get for my dating ultrasound was this Friday at 8:30am! Which means I'll have to take a half day first week back to work. I plan on telling just my principal at that point so he knows why I need the half day. I'm currently 7w5d so I'm not too concerned.

What concerns, questions, etc. do you have? Oh concern is that if I go on April 1 and take my 12 weeks (8 paid, 4 unpaid) I still will have to go back to work for about 2 weeks at the end of the year! I'm hoping my administrators will just tell me stay home and do my work from there!!
  • I teach middle and freshmen choirs.

I'd like to tell admin as late as possible, BUT we go on a "retreat" right around my 9 weeks with kids- the one I go on includes a boat ride out to an island where we do lots of hiking/kayaking/physical stuff. My doc said no exercise through first Tri (IVF) and I'm still getting PIO injections from DH every morning. I'm thinking I will tell my principal so I can not go on this retreat. As DH said, even if I can avoid some of the physical stuff on the retreat, it would suck to be hours from home on an island if I started bleeding or something. Plus- I can't give myself the shots , so that adds another layer of stress :(

Other concerns: the head of the choral dept is retiring this year and I have to apply for the position. I'm worried that my maternity leave/new mom status might work against me- even though I know legally they can't hold it against me.

  • what do you teach? I'm an administrator for middle school so I teach life skills!!
When are you due? April 20
When are you telling administration? I will tell my fellow building level admins probably at 12 weeks but I'll ask them to not tell upper admin for awhile... Til I show.
What concerns, questions, etc. do you have? Leaving my class at the busiest time of year. Not being able to make $ during the summer. That my teachers will resent me being gone. More work for my boss (head principal). That my contract won't get renewed. And more!
  • what do you teach?

I'm an intervention teacher working with grades 3 - 5.  In addition, I am(was) working on two additional certifications this year, for ESL and Literacy specialist.  Oops!

    When are you due?

    4/4/15

    When are you telling administration?

I had to already tell them two weeks ago.   I am a high-risk case so most likely bed rest, and a lot of it, will be involved.   This will actually be in my favor as I might not have morning/afternoon bus duty this year. :)

What concerns, questions, etc. do you have?

Biggest thing is not being able to help my kids.  I have a leadership position at school so being out for a huge time is difficult as it's not easy to have someone take over.  There is no curriculum to follow, as in a regular ed classroom.   Obviously, this interferes with my two trainings as well.   I am mentoring two new teachers in addition to my regular work so I hope I can still do that via computer, if necessary.

  • I'm a teacher of Senior Infants in Ireland (I love it!) I'm due April 15th. My concerns are that it won't have the energy to teach a bunch of energetic 6 year olds!! I am on summer hols at the mo and have no energy so I don't know what I will do when I'm back next week!
  • I teach 4th grade. I'm due April 17. I plan to tell around 12 weeks if I don't get severe sickness or anything. I am most concerned about finding a good sub (fingers crossed my good friend can do it) and the fact that my classroom is so far from the bathroom and 2 flights of stairs away from the copier.

    Baby Due April 17, 2015
  • I teach Health and Physical Education, K-8. I'm due April 18. I'll probably tell my principal this week. I've asked for a pumping schedule because I'm still feeding my first, almost 8mo. I want to give her a heads up about my exhaustion from nursing and growing 2 kids and also tell her that I'll be weaning. I'll tell my co teacher if I start to feel terrible. I'm close with my coworkers so I'll be spilling the beans. I think it's silly to hide pregnancies. No concerns, just happy to have a shorter school year since our building was moved far away for renovations.
  • what do you teach?
I teacher Music kindergarten through 5th grade

    When are you due?
    April 15th, 2015

    When are you telling administration?
Well, I already told my principal.  Within the first full week of school (Thursday 8/21) I have to go to a doctors appointment.  No excuse would be good enough for having to get a half day sub that early.  I'm glad I told her though.  She is super supportive and goes easy on me since the 1st trimester symptoms kind of blow.

What concerns, questions, etc. do you have?
I'm a control freak (as most teachers are) and I'm super nervous for picking and organizing for my long-term sub.  So many things happen after my due date: kindergarten program, DARE graduation, talent show, variety show, 5th grade singing showcase, etc.  I have no idea how I'm going to dump that onto a sub.

  • I teach special ed DCD. I'm due April 2nd. I told my building principal last week already due to the fact that this past February I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks in my classroom! So, since that experience I feel more comfortable having my principal aware of my preganacy in case something would go wrong again. My admin is super supportive!
  • I teach kindergarten, I'm due April 7th and I will probably tell everyone publicly around 12 weeks ☺

Choir teacher here- I feel ya sister, not to think we music teachers are "special" but you definitely can't just dump music plans a on a regular sub!! Our big Pops spring concert is 1 week after my due date :(
  • I'm a middle school mild/moderate special education teacher in a high profile school. I'm due April 12th! I have role my co teacher only, in case I snap at him or have m/s
  • Hi there!

I teach 9th and 11th grade English and I'm due on April 9. I'm planning on waiting as long as possible before telling the administration...probably not til I'm showing. My concerns include dealing with nausea in the classroom and just the general stress of having a high energy job that keeps me on my feet all day when I'm exhausted! Also worried about the long- term sub thing.

Good luck to all of you fellow teachers! Hope we can keep each other updated. :)
  • I am a kindergarten-3rd grade S&P special education teacher.  I am due 4/10 (or at least until more confirmed by my dating appointment).  I am AMA and have some other high risk factors.  Since my kiddos require diaper changes and positioning from their wheelchairs, I already had to tell admin since I cannot lift more than 15-20lbs.  I also needed to have some help moving furniture in my classroom when I usually do it myself.  I had to get permission to have my hubby come in and help.  I have an appointment I am going to have to leave school about 15 minutes yearly for on my 3rd day of school.  This is a new admin for our school and co-op.  I worked with her previously so at least I didn't have to tell a complete stranger!  YIKES!

I am most nervous about a sub right at the end of the year when everything is so busy.  Also, no ESY for me this year.  Not that I love it but I will miss the cash.  I am not really wanting to tell anyone else at school but I will have to tell my PT, nurse, and aides so that they don't think I am just being a lazy bitch when I refuse to lift.  I can only hide it for so long.  Being only 6.5 weeks makes me a bit nervous to spill the beans but I don't think there is a way around it.

  • I am a Kindergarten teacher.  I am only 4 weeks tomorrow so it's very early.  Going to wait until I get news from my doctor at my appointment at 7 weeks that everything is a-ok before I tell the admin.  Mostly so she'll understand why I took a day off so early. I might change my mind and wait until I announce to everyone.  Hoping that I can stay awake to teach 25-5year olds because right now I can barely get through a day of setting up my classroom.  I get so sleepy by the afternoon! I haven't had MS yet so maybe that will be my biggest worry with 5 year olds!!

I teach 1st grade and I am due April 2nd (love that our maternity leave runs right into the summer!)
I don't plan on telling admin until at least 12 weeks. The other 1st grade teacher already knows... She just had baby this past February and she will be the one I go to when I need to pee all the time!
I am a little worried about leaving my class and classroom in the hands of someone I probably won't know. I'm not really sure if I'm supposed to fill my plan book in or just leave units/guidelines.
  • what do you teach? 3rd Grade!
When are you due? April 17th
When are you telling administration? I told them last week due to this being my first pregnancy and not knowing what could happen. I'm glad they know because now every time they see me in the hallway, they ask me how I'm doing.
What concerns, questions, etc. do you have? I'm concerned about how I'm going to handle frequent bathroom breaks as I get further along. Oh, and having to write long term sub plans!
  • I teach high school history.

    Due April 15th.

Not sure yet when I'll tell. My first ultrasound isn't till the 2nd week of school. I actually think it's the day of a faculty meeting, so I might need to tell ASAP to get out of that. I won't tell the world until 12 weeks. I want to tell my softball captains before then, but they're high schoolers, so that's basically telling the world!

Just worried about having the energy to do my job and parent the kids I already gave birth to! Oh, and the morning sickness. It sucked with the 1st 2 kids and this one isn't looking much better so far.
  • Hey fellow softball coach!
  • I teach 2nd grade and I'm also due April 20. :) It's my first pregnancy. I will prob tell my principal and school nurse when I'm 8 weeks and administration at 12 weeks!
  • I teach high school math (honors geometry and algebra 2)

When are you due? April 7

When are you telling administration? Not sure, we have a new principal this year (haven't even met him yet).  That will be interesting, hi my name is ___ and I won't be here at the end of this school year.  I will probably wait till just before we announce to everyone else (12ish weeks).

What concerns, questions, etc. do you have? It was a PIA to get a sub for DS, so I'm hoping I can find a good long term sub this time.  We also got brand new curriculum this year, so trying to plan for the last 2 months of the year and never taught out of this curriculum, yeah that's going to be fun.

  • Hey everyone! I teach 6th and 7th grade science.  I am 7 weeks today (due April 9th) and have told two co-workers that I work really closely with.

Recently my head principal announced that two other women are pregnant during our last staff meeting.  It was pretty clear from one of their facial expressions that she was NOT supposed to tell yet.  So I'm not telling until I'm ready for everyone to know.. around 12 weeks.  I don't have my first appointment until 10 weeks, so definitely not until after that

It's been REALLY tiring to go back to work. I feel exhausted by the end of the day. I'm hoping to adjust quickly though... the first week back is always hard.  I'm mostly worried about the long-term sub/planning for my absence. I am also worried about "showing" because I gained 10 pounds over the summer (ugg.. Vegas and wedding) and I am super bloated...

    Good luck everyone!
  • What do you teach? I teach 5th graders and 8th graders.

When are you due? April 3.

When are you telling administration? I already told them. There are three of us pregnant and all due close together. I felt it was better to tell now than wait. I won't tell the kids or parents until I'm further along.

What concerns, questions, etc. do you have? I'm worried about having to leave long term sub plans. I'm hoping that the teacher I replaced last year can come back and teach for me! Also worried about getting sick in front of the kids!

  • Actually speaking of long-term sub plans.....what does your district require you do to?

I think we only officially require two weeks and then the long term sub would take over.  They have to be a certified teacher to take that position, usually a recent graduate who couldn't get hired.

My issue is most likely I will require bed rest due to an uterine anomaly so it's hard to know when I'll leave.  I think it will be attend one doc's appt and there it is, I need to stay home.   To further complicate things I teach about 6 towns away from where I live so that's going to make dr's appts difficult.    All these things is why I let administration know immediately.  Even though my principal is new, I worked with her at a previous school.   They are supportive.

  • What do you teach? I am an Assistant Principal at a high school for students with moderate to severe disabilities. I supervise about 20 teachers and lead three academic departments.

When are you due? April 15

When are you telling administration? I'm so bloated that I look 3-4 months pregnant right now, and I've developed the pregnancy mask so I'm not sure if my secret will be safe. In an ideal world, I plan to share the news at the end of the first trimester (late sept). However, so many of our special needs students are volatile so I'm worried that I may have to spill the beans to my principal sooner for safety reasons.
  • What do you teach? High School special education at an alternative school. I mostly work with students who have learning disabilities, anxiety, depression and/or ADHD.

When are you due? April 10th.

When are you telling administration? I plan to tell then after first trimester.

Concerns I have would be making sure I have enough sick leave to cover my maternity leave. Last pregnancy I was on bed rest for a week and delivered three weeks early. This was fine since we didn't have a larger house payment, but this time around I can't go 6 weeks unpaid.
  • Third music teacher here (elementary) I'm due April 29th and spring shows are weighing heavily on my mind. I plan on telling my principal before my late Sept ob appointment.
Me: 31 DH: 43 Married May 2010 TTC Since Jan 2013 Abnormally irregular and long cycles 35-60 days First RE Appointment Feb 2014 All basic tests normal March 2014: Clomid 50 mg - responded with one mature follicle
  • I am a certified teacher who just moved to my area last year. I did 2 long term substitute jobs for 2 different teachers last year, and I'm doing 2 more this year. One teacher left me a week worth of plans, and the other left all of her curriculum stuff, and her old lesson plans. I just went from there. No one expects you to plan out an entire maternity leave. It's too difficult. Things change, and lessons have to be adjusted. Most of the other teachers for that grade level are happy to help you out!
  • I teach 2nd grade :)

I am due (as far as I know since no appt. yet) April 7th

I hope to not have to tell admin until I am around 12-13 weeks when we tell everyone else. I have to take a half day sept. 10th for our appt., but that'll be our third week of school so we shouldn't have any questions LOL :)

I had my DS Sept. 2nd 2013 so have already done the prepare for a sub and panic and all that stuff since I didn't come back until March...it went as well as could be expected and I can definitely tell you that once you have your little one, you will not think twice about the classroom!!! :) Best feeling every :) My biggest worry this time is if I will have to come back after having little one or not. I only have 30 sick days and that will be exactly what I need for 6 weeks paid leave. Anything after that would be unpaid, which doesn't work too well with hubby not working :(

    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • I teach 7th grade English.

    I'm due April 12th

Told my admin already. I am high risk. My first appointment with my family doctor was on Friday the first week of school, and then I have an RE appointment next week that's 3 hours away and obviously requires a full day. I wanted them to know the severity of the situation, and that I wouldn't typically leave my students in those first crucial weeks. They have been beyond supportive though. And it's all new admin, so it was difficult. I know it seems irresponsible to some, but I've told quite a few coworkers. They know how much I've struggled and I wanted to share my joy and disbelief with them.

I think I am most nervous that I won't be doing my best up until maternity leave. I have to stay seated most of the day while teaching, and that is not my style.
  • what do you teach? I'm an elementary school social worker who works a great deal with our special ed population.

When are you due? April 23rd

When are you telling administration? I am going to have to tell my principals at 6.5 weeks because we go back to school and I won't be able to do physical restraints on the students, especially due to the miscarriage I had just last month. I am hoping no one else needs to know, however, until 12+ weeks. I also have one really good friend at work and she already knows.

What concerns, questions, etc. do you have? My only concern really is just making it to full term with this pregnancy. My current lack of symptoms had me worried half to death. Trying to relax and take it day by day. Also a bit concerned about covering this bloated belly until I go public with the information (geez I swear I look 5 mo prego already just from bloating...a blump if you will lol)
