My uo is that I don't like sharing the road with bikes. They don't signal when they are turning, they go through red lights when it is convenient, and they slow traffic down. I hate driving really slowly up a hill because someone in front of me is on a bike and their pants are falling down. I think it would be safer to have bike lanes as part of sidewalks instead of streets. For the record, I love biking. I just think it should be done on sidewalks.
One of my instructors at my cosmetology college is also pregnant (along with 7 others of us students and another instructor!) and she's obsessed with going "by the book" on what to do/not to do when pregnant (even old wives tales). When she saw I brought a lunch meat sandwich she stopped me and said "you're not eating that are you?? We can't have lunch meat!" Which I've read and heard from my doctor it's fine if you hear it up, but you're also fine to have it cold once in a while and that the chance of getting listeria is very minimal. She judges anytime any of us do anything "against the book" and acts all "know it all" and "I'm better than you and my kid will be healthier". Really pisses me off and it's hard to keep quiet. Maybe I'm just too relaxed with what I do. Everything in moderation. Well.. Not everything, but you get my drift.
Yay a bike one!!! Ok, I'm prefacing with I am a triathlete so in the height of training, I am riding 200+ miles a week.
1. Studies of roadways and traffic patterns show we actually DON'T slow down your drive time in any significant way.
2. In places with more bikes, traffic congestion is actually less (like some parts of Europe) making for faster drive times.
3. Asshole cyclists are assholes. But most of us aren't. Sorry. We don't want to get hit so we signal, obey traffic signals, etc. Also, MANY cars think we have to stop for every red light and stop sign. We don't. In the bike lane at some intersections, we don't have a stop line. Now, if they're riding the traffic lane, then yes. Need to stop.
4. By law in most states, we are entitled to an ENTIRE lane of traffic. Most of us stick to the far right side so you all can pass us.
5. We ride two abreast on hills and curvy roads to protect ourselves. It makes drivers have to be more careful and take more time when passing us.
6. You do not want me on a sidewalk. On a flat, straight stretch of road, I can hit 27-30mph. Downhills, I can hit over 40. You don't want me hitting a stroller, pedestrian, dog, etc. It will not end well.
7. In New York, where bike sharing has gone into effect, not a single fatality or significant traffic accident has been linked to the bikes. And it has taken a lot of cars off the roads.
8. If their pants are falling down, they need bib shorts. Mine don't fall down.
9. I am 100% totally completely biased on this subject and I know it. I try to always be a good cyclist. But think about how many asshole drivers you see every day. Now, you may see two cyclists on your drive and one is a jerk. So, that's a skewed sample. But yeah, there are jerk cyclists and other cyclists tend to call them out. Seriously, we will publicly shame them on social networks ("To the guy in the red kit on the green Trek this morning at the corner of Tally and Ho, you are the reason drivers hate us. Way to blaze through the light, dick.").
I'd rather see a woman with a little too much make up as opposed to no make up at all. I feel that only about 3.5% of the population can pull off the no make up look successfully.
@MauiBliss those are very interesting facts. I didn't realize that cyclists would ride in clumps for safety, or that you can't ride on the sidewalk because of your speed.
I think the idiot students on campus (particularly in high traffic areas) are ruining it for the rest of you. I can't tell you how often I've nearly killed someone when they zipped out in front of me.
Slightly OT, but I saw some guy who was obviously an avid cyclist (decked out in the gear) riding on the far right of a busy street, as you described. Some idiot had left his gigantic mailbox door open. The cyclist hit it and had a horrible wreck, bad enough to really bloody him and break his bike. We stopped to make sure he was OK and wait with him until someone could pick him up. Now I live in a neighborhood that cyclists love to train in and I compulsively close any open mailboxes. My BSC neighbor accused me if stealing his mail.
Whoops, I started rambling. But this is my PSA: close your mailboxes!!!!

Hmm. Well, DH specifically requested shortly after he met me that I stop wearing makeup, which for the most part I have, and I doubt I'm in what you'd consider the 3.5%, but whatever. I'm already worried DD's overly concerned about body image and she's only six, so I'd rather not give her the impression that you have to alter your face on an everyday basis in order to be acceptable to the general public.

HATE the pregnancy police. When I was pregnant with Owen one of the other teachers was like that. A man with no children. I think my eyes almost rolled out of my head. I was pretty conservative on what to do too. But he would tell me I was doing things like "standing to close to the microwave" and try to physically move me. Oy.

I never wear make up ever. Not ever.
I guess if you think I look like shit IDGAF.
----*stupid quote box*----
Same. I hate makeup. If you don't like my face don't look at me!
Ok I didn't say I hate people that wear no make up or that I would treat people without make up any differently than those that wear it, it is just my unpopular opinion that I prefer when women wear make up. To ME it looks more put together. I understand that not everyone feels the same way and thats ok with me

This makes me LOL.
So you have a make up prejudice, but you don't discriminate. How progressive.
How is it any different than saying I hate the color pink and I don't think many people can pull it off. I don't dislike people that wear pink, I just don't think it looks good. Its the same as the makeup comment.

Ouch. I don't wear make-up because 1.) it's expensive (if you pay for the stuff that won't clog your pores and make you break out even more), 2.) I prefer my sleep in the morning since I get up so early, 3.) I don't feel like I need make-up to have people like the way I look.
I think it's rude to tell people that they can't pull off a no-makeup look, so they need to wear a bunch of makeup to meet your approval.

Same here. I rarely wear make up, when I do MH thinks I look weird (I don't think I'm doing it wrong because he said the same thing when I got it done professionally).
I'd rather see a woman with a little too much make up as opposed to no make up at all. I feel that only about 3.5% of the population can pull off the no make up look successfully.
I haaaaaaaaaaate makeup. I hate the way foundation makes my skin feel. I hate when lipstick gets on my teeth. I hate how tiny mascara makes my eyes look. I hate when I sweat and I turn into a melted mess with runny eyes, streaks on my skin, and those gross beads of powder/sweat you get your forehead.
And I sweat like a fucking hog (thanks for the awesome genes, Dad). I think I look much, much worse with makeup than without. Maybe I look less "put together" to some, but at least my face feels clean, I can rub my eyes with confidence, and if I do start sweating buckets people will only notice how wet I look rather than looking at my face with my raccoon eyes.
I hate when adults call me Mama, as in "how are you feeling, Mama?" I am not your mother and I have a name. Please use it. I usually excuse nurses at my OB's office; they see a lot of people. But my neighbor knows my name!

At least this is the UO thread and not the "stuff this lady actually expects you to do" thread.
I hardly ever wear make up. I don't care that much what people at work think about how I look. I'm at a hospital all day in scrub and usually have a hat and mask on. Makeup usually come off after an hour or so if I do wear it. My UO or at least my opinion: I do not think adult women should wear their hair in pig tails. I don't know why it bugs me so much but it just seems better suited for children. I have a hard time taking people seriously who have pigtails. The exception would be if it's part of your profession or Halloween.

Just curious what profession would require pigtails?
I was think of cheerleaders or clowns (we have some that visit the kids at the hospital).
Edited because of quote failure.

I don't wear pink because it's not the most flattering color on my skin. That's different from saying there's something wrong with my skin.

See I am in the 3.5% and I do wear make-up, Not to make me look better, as you can't really improve on perfection, but because I like to wear make-up. And to cover my freckles. I am and Irish red head. I have lots of freckles. I can say on weekends I don't wear make-up (once again part of the 3.5% so it is ok :-) ).
Ok really I am not part of the 3.5% I just think it is funny. And btw I look awesome in pink :-)

I'm not certain how the majority of pregnant women feel about this, and it may be more of a confession than an unpopular opinion, but here goes. I think all the dietary restrictions are garbage. I love tuna. I don't eat it every day or even every week. But I will not stop myself from indulging in a tuna sandwich, if I so desire one. The same goes for sushi, coffee, deli meat, medium-rare steak, and even a glass of wine once or twice a month. I think all the rules are out of control. My doctor scolded me for all of the above recently, so I'm a little sensitive about it. I'm pretty sure baby will be fine. God, if something goes wrong, I highly doubt it will be the tuna sandwich. I choose to walk on the wild side.
I'm not a fan of ice cream. I can tolerate it, but not my thing! It's DH favorite type of dessert though, so I've had it more than I ever have before in the last couple years.
@mudbug84 I'm the same way. Hell I even have a beer once in a while. Again, my doctor actually told me once in a while a beer or glass of wine is ok. And I still enjoy all the foods. Just moderately.

My doctor actually said, "absolutely NO alcohol, ever". She followed that strong sentiment with a tale of how one of her patients was following her previous doctors orders with her first pregnancy and limiting alcohol to once or twice a week. Her child was born with fetal alcohol syndrome. I really have to question how honest this particular patient was, because it truly seems outside of the norm.

They will tear the medium-rare steak out of my cold, dead hands. Only way I'm turning it over. I had a delicious medium-rare steak just two weeks ago when we announced to the in-laws. It was delicious. I have no regrets.
UO - I do not care for Star Wars, Harry Potter, or Twilight. I have never watched any of them all the way through, nor do I care to do so. I cannot be convinced otherwise. I don't care for Sci-Fi. I am currently reading Outlander (because a girlfriend has been bugging me to for years) - she pets a rock and falls through time - I shut the book and said, "No. No you didn't." I just can't wrap my head around it. Imagination fail.

Uh yeah.. I highly doubt she was only drinking once or twice a week... I mean I only have one beer or glass of wine once or twice a month, but if you have it once a week even that's not enough to cause FAS. I have an x-friend who drank her whole pregnancy (I'm talking like multiple drinks a night, 3-4 times a week) and her baby got FAS which sounds more like it. Then again another girl I know drank often in her pregnancy and didn't have any effect on her baby. She lucked out. I definitely don't want to push my luck which is why I don't have a glass often, but I think once in a while is fine.

I actually requested vacation days for the days the Harry Potter books were released. I'd then sit on the couch and read it. All day. It was amazing. Not a big fan of Star Wars or Twilight though.
So, that friend that I mentioned elsewhere, we went to their house after I got my BFP (she's like a sister to me so I told her) and everyone else got lovely, medium rare steaks....they gave me mine well done with beaming smiles....H snuck me some of his.
My husband prefers his steak to be cooked like shoe leather, I mean, well done. I can't eat a steak that's cooked more than medium-rare without a lot of A-1 sauce or mushrooms/onions grilled on top.
@MauiBliss I'm right there with you as far as 50 Shades goes. My feminist self felt that it glorified rape, jealousy and stalking as signs of love...It was a disaster. The review is bang on...oh my!
