I built a spreadsheet that now has...63 girl names (first names only). DH and I score each name independently, and then I average our scores and then deduct points for huge differences in our scores (if I score a name a 10 and he scores it a 3, then it shouldn't be a contender). Then the spreadsheet compiles a list of our top ten. Right now, at the top of the list are:
Elliot
Evey
Cleo
Dylan
Evie
Chloe
Jocelyn
Lilith
Macy
Audrey
*Sigh* We will never get there.
We don't have a spreadsheet for names but I appreciate you methodology. It made me smile. It also made me think of my budget spreadsheet which has formulas to calculate out the taxes individually to item...
We had pretty much settled on a name - Eliza Wren - when DH mentioned it to his father who reminded him that his grandmother's name is actually Elizabeth even though she goes by another name. Which wouldn't be a big deal except she is Jewish and one does not name children after living relatives in that tradition. So DH needs to check with his grandmother to see how she would feel about a name so similar to hers. It's our choice I know but there's a difference between a relative not liking a name and something that could personally offend. Our back up at this point is Sylvie. Not sure about middle name in that case.
So not even close to deciding on a name. We find out the sex on our anniversary (August 13th ) So hopefully that will bring us closer to deciding. It's really hard this time though, I just can't think of anything.
@Tsuga76 I thought it only "counted" if it was the person's actual name, or name they went by. Some of my in-laws are Jewish and I've done a lot of reading up on different religions, beliefs, and traditions, but I'm admittedly no expert. I'm only curious.
My husband is Jewish. His name is Lee Jason after deceased grandfathers, Leon and Jack. I'm not sure if they usually use the relatives name or a derivative of the name. His mom said she just used the initials. I didn't ask too many questions.
Our top names are Isaac and Jude for a boy, Maggie for a girl. Team green here.
We have front-runners for first names, but probably won't settle until baby is born. I have longer lists for middle names, since DH lets me pick those. I always pick something I wish was their fn that DH has vetoed.
We are no where. At all. I don't want to have that discussion until we know boy/girl. If baby is a boy, we'll have to do some serious digging. We used our favorite boy name, Jack with DS1, and names DS2 after FIL, William (Will). FIL goes by Bill. If baby is a girl, we will probably start from scratch. Middle name will probably be Katherine. Our girl names were picked out 5 years ago while PG & Team Green with DS1. They were: Leah- my cousin named her daughter Amelia, which to me is too close. Olivia-maybe.... Margaret(Maggie)-my sister just had a baby in March and her name is Molly, which is close to me. Ainsley-my ultimate #1 favorite and I couldn't get DH on board our first go-round. I may pull this out again. I just love it.
Recent likes: Caroline, Elane/Elaine *whoa this is long. Sorry.
Ezra Gordon (Gordon is my dad's name) for a boy Or Amelia Jane or Nora Jane for a girl
My DD's mn is Nora
We just found out this LO is definitely a boy, so his name will be Landon John. (John is DH's & FIL's name.) We actually had this name picked out as a boy option for DD before we found out she was a girl.
@megan81112 My son's name is Isaac! We love the name but sometimes wish there was an easy nickname to go with it. I call him "Bear" but that's just a Mama thing.
Honestly. I grew up obsessed with Knight Rider. KITT was my obsession. Also I love double letters in names. My name is Tiffany.
I really wanted to name my girl Kitt but when I looked it up the only Kitt I found was a boy name.. so I decided that would be a middle name. Still will nickname my daughter (if it's a daughter) Kitt though.
My niece is named Katherine and they told everyone they wanted to call her Kat specifically so she could have the nick name kit Kat. By the way there is an American girl doll named Kitt, I'm pretty certain, so you should use it as a name with no fear if you love it!
Yes! John (my husbands name) Theodore (my grandpa who raised me name) but he will go by Jack - I want him to have his own identity and since we are from New England this is pretty common! I'm so excited I already want to order the monogrammed stuff!!!
OK I had no clue about that!!! ♡ that's good to know seeing as the nickname will be Kitt regardless of gender lol I think I'm the only one other than my immediate family that will use that nickname but I'm certain it will grow on everyone
@TwinkleTor I love the name Gray, I wanted it for DS. Of coarse I'm black, DH is German...too many jokes!
DS is Lucas Duval
This time we are team pink, right now we are between:
Talia Elizabeth
Cecily Elizabeth
We are going family names for middles.
Talia is my niece's name. I never hear it from anyone else. Great choice! (Cecily is a great choice, too. )
We know that we're having a boy, and we haven't decided on a thing. My husband picked a name that I can't stand, and he feels similarly about my choices. Lol! I guess if this is our biggest issue that I shouldn't be complaining, but it's bugging me for sure!
I am also 95% sure.. I hoping for a girl so it would be Emmalyn Rose or I get another boy his name Eli Jacob. It might be a bit odd but I like uncommon names.
My first two boys are Davyn Joseph and Nezar Elyn.
Our first daughter's name is Hadley Lauren. Her little sister arrives in January and will be named Reese Catherine. So thrilled that Hadley will have a sister!!
We found out the sex of our baby last week and though I could have sworn it was a girl the ultrasound showed it to be very different! My husband and I did agree on a name for a girl and a boy and I am happy to share both
Girl: Samantha Harper
Boy: Benjamin Daniel
We are very excited for our little Benny D to arrive!
We fund out in 2 weeks what were having but we've decided in names already.. Girl - Quinn Madelyn-Ok Boy - Ezra William-Aldo We were trying so we've been discussing names for awhile.. the middle names are all family names...
Names came easy for us, surprisingly! We find out the gender on Friday! But our names are... Isabelle Ranae (his grandmother's name was Isabelle nn izzi and my mother's and my middle names are both Ranae) Hunter William (his parents almost named him Hunter, but went with Chase instead and my maiden name is Williamson so we chose William for the middle. We considered Hunter Chase, but I think we've decided on William).
How ever many days are left in my ticker, that's about how close I am to choosing a name. The only thing I have decided is that if it's a girl, her middle name will be Jean. Other than that, I got nothin'!
Re: How close are you to choosing a name?
Our top names are Isaac and Jude for a boy, Maggie for a girl. Team green here.
@megan81112 That's a nice tradition - using the first initial - and I know DH's cousin has followed it in naming her children.
Boy- Owen Ray
The middle names are family names. We find out on the 25!!!

Our Angel (RIP) Domenik Rey

Donovan Blake (boy)
Nykole Jordan (girl)

We used our all time favorite girl name for our first, so I'm looking for something that I feel as attached to for this LO. So far, no dice.
Our boy name is after our fathers:
Gregory Martin (I still hate the MN, but H won't budge.)
NN will be Rory.
Potential girl names:
Corinne Isabelle after my maternal GM
Lucy Corinne (but Lucy is so popular).
