Scary Morning

So since I went to the doc on wed. I was diagnosed with a yeast infection. But my culture came back as bacterial. Then that afternoon I had a little brownish discharge. So I called my doc and she said due to the miscarriages I have had to just not take anything right now. So this morning at my first morning pee I had a toilet paper full of brownish discharge. I freaked. We went to the ER and they did an ultra sound. Baby checked out great! Ultrasound is showing me at 10 weeks and there is a heartbeat! So the ER doc but me on the met gel same stuff I was on a month ago for BV(which I have again and not a yeast infection). Just curious if anyone on here had BV come BV come back this soon?

  • I was just diagnosed w/ BV this week and put on the gel. I am also spotting brown blood. Really hoping the spotting goes away once the infection does!! Good luck to you too!

  • I'm gonna go ahead and assume your BV never went away.

Also can't figure out why you went to ER for a bit of brown blood... I swear you told someone just last week not to do that?
It wasn't a bit of brown blood.. it was a lot. And I have had 4 miscarriages so yeah when I see that and my doctors office isn't open i'm gonna go.

  • I think it's easy to freak out when it happens to you... I also know brown blood is normal, but I cried my eyes out for two hours when I saw it yesterday, and proceeded to email my specialist's office immediately! Nerves are pretty tense at this stage I think... And that's normal :) Hope you feel better soon!

    Emailing your doctor is fine.

Running up thousands with an ER bill and an ultrasound (which I suspect was her motivation for going anyway) is not.

OP- Not treating BV is fucking dumb. Find a new doctor. And your ER is staffed by morons as well. Vaginal treatment is contraindicated for pregnant women. You should be on oral antibiotics. If the gel didn't clear it last time, giving it to you again is fucking stupid too. You have a lot of stupid medical "professionals" where you live. You should be on clindamycin or tinidazole because clearly the gel version of Flagyl didn't work for you and you need a different med.

I have had 4 miscarriages. So if I see toilet paper full of blood I'm gonna go to the ER if my docs office isn't open. And what do you care about how much the bill is, your not the one that has to pay it. That is why I have insurance and PAY for insurance. I would appreciate if you would keep your insensitive comments to yourself.

SITDB: Toilet paper full of red blood and toilet paper that has brown discharge are two different things. Having had a loss myself seeing anything resembling blood is scary but I have to agree your doctor sounds a bit....dumb. Why on earth would she not treat an infection?! And why wouldn't you have called the doctor before going?

Regardless, I'm happy baby is okay!
  • To add to the above

It sounds like you also had an exam. Did they not warn you about spotting after? I have a hard one believing they did not. They took cultures for crying out loud.

I think you were told to wait on a ultrasound and then ran to the ER to get one when doc said no.

You need to read a pregnancy book and get a new doctor

  • Wow you ladies are so mean.... why?

Yes I did have an exam on wednesday from a midwife not my regular doc because they squeezed me in to be seen that day). She is the one that diagnosed me with yeast and gave me meds for that… but the cultured showed bacterial. Later that afternoon when the spotting started I called her back and she is the one that told me just to not take anything at all. Which I felt wasn't right. I was NOT told to wait for an ultra sound. I have one scheduled when I am 12 weeks. I went to the ER because of the AMOUNT of blood I had. Not for an ultra sound. They did that to make sure everything was ok with the baby and make sure the blood wasn't coming from something wrong with the baby.
Until anyone has been through a loss or multiple losses they have NO idea what it feels like. They don't know what its like in the mount when you see blood. The FIRST thing that goes through your head is my baby is dead. DO I regret going to the hospital NO!!!! If I had it happen all over again I wouldn't hesitate. The well being of my baby is more important to me that any bill or what other people think. My question was if anyone else had reoccurring BV not peoples opinion about my ER visit.

  • Again all I asked was who had reoccurring BV. I do not regret going to the ER and would do it again if had to do over again. I didn't assume I was the only one who had losses. All I said a person can't understand how if feels or how you react to things until you have. Never said I was the only one.

Trust me, it isn't worth letting them get to you. Just ignore them. Wish I would have because they are sooooo not worth it!

I am so sorry you have had to deal with losses and now the spotting. I am praying for you that all goes well with your pregnancy!

  • 2 white knights in one thread! I can't even.

Thanks for driving up my medical bills with your unnecessary hospital visits.
You're not the only one here that has had one/multiple losses - actually, the majority of the women here have. Being scared does not trump common sense. Sorry.
    Your Welcome

  • If you solely wanted opinions on BV all you had to post was "hey I just got diagnosed with BV. anyone else deal with this? What did they give you for meds?" You can't post details and then expect people to ignore them.

And your story changed. First it was a bit of brown discharge, then some red discharge on the TP. Then it became blood. Then it was a lot of blood. Why wouldn't you have called your doctor before running to the er. I get the fear, every time I had a spot of blood or pain or anything my first thought was "run to the er!" But then I snapped back into reality and either chilled or called my doctor, who never once sent me to the er. That's for when you're soaking more than a pad per hour and/or you have severe pain.

I suggest picking up a Doppler and learn how to use it correctly. $50 to calm your fear is much better than thousands in medical bills and increased premiums.

My doctors office was closed. If it was open I would of called and went there.... I'm really not interested in justifying my actions to anyone. And I'm actually looking at getting a Doppler. Thanks

  • If you can't reach your doctor, or at least a nurse, after hours then you need a new doctor, like yesterday.
  • I had BV with my daughter. I had a miscarriage my first pregnancy so when I started spotting with her I naturally freaked out. Like I mentioned, they ran tests and diagnosed me with BV. I was put on sex restriction for a month and took the antibiotics/gel. Spotting stopped and she's 6 months and perfectly healthy. Also you spot after an exam. Once your BV clears, the spotting should hopefully lessen/stop. Good luck!

Thank you for the reply! It's very VERY easy to freak out when you have had a loss for sure. The spotting has stopped. Thank you! I saw my doc today and everything looks good :)
